One of my grandkids sat in the passenger seat of my Vette project.
I asked him to roll down the window...he said "There is no down button".
(No problem...he's the newest generation of electric window operators)
SoÖ..I explained to him about the window crank and how it works.

He replied..."I'll leave it up....that's too much work".

I hope I never need emergency chest compression.

You can't develop skills if you're afraid to tackle tasks, simple as that. So yeah, this is a confidence issue first and foremost. When you're coddled and spend your childhood indoors playing games, what's to be expected? Future is dark for these folks.

The Millenials are going to say the same thing in 50 years. "Back when I was a kid, we had to..."

Next time you see your Millennial doctor, make sure to remind them that you are an "alpha" and that they are weak "beta" that probably can't even change the oil in their car.

Besides the basic practical aspect of doing things for yourself, someone needs to tell these guys women find being self-sustaining appealing.

We were all going to make a fortune with computers, but our parents had no idea how or why.

My situation is not unique. So I can kind of understand why people my age can't do **** around the home. We got sold a pretty **** bill of goods back when our parents bought into the "everyone's going to college and becoming a millionaire!" schtick back in the 90s.
The fact that you even acknowledge this puts you in prime position to do better about it.

Despite modern comments, career opportunities were no different for previous generations, the promises were never fulfilled. It is easy to look at a senior employees' apparent success and not realize how much scrambling and compromise it took to get there. But to fix a washing machine (or at least know how to hook one up) was previously honored and for lack of that emphasis on self reliance, your generation has been ripped off.

To their credit, however, I do agree that technology has evolved, and they're often better than their parents at fixing computer problems or programming the microwave clock, and for the same reasons, they're often less intimidated and able to understand the logical steps to accomplish the task better than us old folks.
This! Iím a GenX dad who is pretty handy, but with YouTube videos Iíve saved thousands.

Millennial dads have pathetic DIY skills compared to baby boomers

By Tyler Schmall, SWNS

Are dads’ essential DIY skills in decline? According to new research, millennial dads are less capable than their own dads when it comes to everyday DIY fixes, preferring to rely on professional help instead.
There is a book I am reading called "Men On Strike" by Helen Smith.

Amazon Amazon

Unlike some other books looking at it from a womans point of view this author is an advocate for men, and studies the reasons men are tuning out of society since so much of what they experience is negative. The legal and family courts are heavily weighted against them, Hollywood and others portray them like rapists, pedophiles, bumbling idiots, etc. and they are treated as if their masculinity and basic nature is something that must be eliminated.
That combined with so many boys being raised by single mothers, they have no male role models to teach them how to be men.

A fundamental change needs to occur in our society before our culture is irreparably damaged.

I have a young neighbor couple (who work their azzes off for Disney) but are not mechanically inclined at all....so I help them out all the time on this and that...

Its funny because "Greg" will wander over when I'm in the garage and always prefaces his requests for help with, ".....do you know anybody that knows anything about 'xxxx'" ? When what he really means is will you help me out with something I can't figure out...

Last week it was replacing the florescent lights in his garage with LEDs ?
Week before it was getting his car alarm to not beep all the time ?

You get the idea...

He's always grateful and watches my house when I'm gone so I don't mind all that much...
