The youth will sue and the deputy will be fired and charged. I think only Texas allows you to use deadly force for property theft.

We went through training every two years, part of which emphasized that a police motor vehicle could be an application of deadly force and there were strict rules of when and when not to engage in high speed pursuits. Now if this holds true for all motor vehicles, and logic would dictate that it does, i.e., all motor vehicles could be used as deadly force (just ask some islamic terrorists about that), doesn't it stand to reason that the deputy just prevented what could have been a possible mass casualty incident? A Corvette in the wrong hands is far more dangerous, I would venture to say, than a smart car or a Volt perhaps.

Hopefully an internal investigation will find out one way or the other.

I really hope the cop gets out of this unscathed.

Shattered driver's window and more than likely blood on the upholstery. Maybe a bullet hole or two.

The officer has to go by the facts and circumstances known to him at the time. He can't speculate a possible future event to justify using deadly force.

If he drove a stick, the teen would have never tried to take it.

Highly doubt the LEO will be charged. UDF rules are different for LEOs.

So, the cop should have stepped aside and let the kid take the car? Would it be different if it weren't a teenager?

My personal stance is that I would have fired a warning shot of which the article doesn't say happened or did not happen prior to shooting the stupid kid.

Kid probably had a weapon also which is also not mentioned in the article.

If anybody finds a follow-up article anywhere, please share here!
