On the other hand many others like myself want to change the look of their car and thats why the aftermarket is so big. To bad that guy was short sighted and missed the opportunity to grow his business.

I tried and would consider having them made.

My problem is having time to do it. My job takes up most of my time, which I wouldn't change for anything other than to work on my cars.

Once again my project has to wait. I'm helping a friend down in the C1/2 forum. Doing a thread on his chassis build. If you want to follow along on a somewhat daily basis of what I do, look for a C6 chassis build in the C1/2 forum

COPO 07-03-2012 08:54 PM

Here is the link if anybody's interested

After this frame is built and a complete chassis ....everything after 5pm goes toward finishing my car. In less than 2 months, it will be a year since I have drove it

COPO, I think we would get along. This is a pic of the hood of my Factory Five Roadster

http://s818.beta.photobucket.com/use...tml?sort=3&o=3

Sounds like we have a lot in common. I have been in racing for about 10 years and decided to get out this year since my daughter was born. Even spent most of it as a front tire changer. What teams did you work with? I'm thinking REALLY hard about selling the Cobra and getting into a C4. I'm totally copying that hood when I do. I love the SS hood. Look forward to seeing your progress since I probably won't be able to leave well enough alone and will want to do this eventually. Here is one more shot, just cause....

With round tubing, you cannot get enough triangulation for the upper a arms mounts. But some 3/16 in some places would help.

Thought I would do one test fit before I did any painting and cleaning on the firewall and such. I think it's going to fit:rock: all that work on the pipes and other parts just sorta disappear when dropped in there. One thing I do like is its easy to change plugs.

yup, all that purdy engine gets buried for all but the very nosey to see..

I can barely get to plug #6 and #8 is definitely easier from underneath. The others are cake.

Good progress...

I hear you. I was fortunate to mostly be with one team for almost the whole time. Doesn't happen often. Wish I could keep it. If my FIL could talk my MIL into it, I basically could. He wants it, but she said no. I think when I get ready for the LS swap, I might just bring it to you. Looking good man.

True :yesnod: #8 is actually easier but from underneath to get #6 I have to pull my pass side coils off.

I won't lie, I went and bought a C5 Z06 to use as a beater while my two year transmission swap continued. Hell if I don't finish my car before this Christmas I'm going to see if I can find a shop to swap in an LS motor and T56 for me and patch up my shoddy work.

What is really sad is I haven't had a day off in 7 yrs...only missed 3 from being sick. Only vacation I take is to Corvette shows which I get to see some C4 buddies.

COPO 08-04-2013 05:32 PM

Ever since I sat the motor in the hood would not close. After I got it on the lift finally found my problem. The turbo was suppose to set where the smog pump was originally. It wound up about 1/2 inch forward of where I planned. I can rotate the housing and the hood close but the outlet is pointed in the wrong direction. No big deal just cut the hood and all is good. I just hate I planned one thing and it winds up into another project to fix.

http://i195.photobucket.com/albums/z...ps19326bb0.jpg

This is the most that's been put together. The lift made my life much easier. Radiator condenser and inter cooler are almost installed. Will be working on cold side and new and improved front air dam this week. Gotta keep momentum going on this

You don't learn unless you get out and do it.

Lots I want to do. Running and driving is top of the list. I am working on a new air dam. Just didn't like the way the other one looked...but it would keep the l98 cool going down the road even with the radiator half full.

It's the only one like it the wilwood makes. It could be adjustable if mounted inside the car

Ha, I'm going the other direction, I'm approaching a point where I'm making more money working than I save working on my own cars. I'm thinking in another year or two I might shop around to have someone do an LS swap in my '85. I love the car, but I only get an hour or two every other week to work on it.

I may have missed it, but what accessory spacing are you using? I saw that they are a custom arrangement. I guess I am just asking what balancer fit? Truck? Fbody? Vette?
Did the rack you installed give you any more room in front of the engine?
Sorry for all the questions but I like the way it sits in there!

coothethird 09-04-2013 04:47 PM

Did you have to change the drive shaft length? Or does the auto or manual drive shaft have enough slide yoke play?

Also, how much room do you have from the intake to hood? I am just wondering how much I need to raise the hood cowl on mine (Edelbrock Pro Flo XT).

I am using the truck balancer. Stock rack..the rack posted earlier will not be in the shop. Had one break.

Haven't got to the drive shaft yet. More than likely I'll make a new one.

If you can give me a couple weeks to get the front finished, I can give you some exact measurements. That's a tall intake and moving the engine forward will make the front of the hood worse. How much taller is it vs stock?

I'm diggin' that intake...but don't show it to my mechanic. He just updated the intake tube on my swap. It's the last thing to be done, then it's finished!!!

I'm going to have to rethink my PCV it gets in the way of the Wiper motor. How is yours routed?

3D87C4 09-05-2013 12:52 AM

I'm afraid I don't know. Here is the most recent photo of that side of the engine I have:

I'll ask the next time we talk.

I spoke with my mechanic, there are two reasons the PVC routing isn't an issue in my swap:

Their mounts position the engine further forward than other mounts so there is a bit more clearance.

The LS1 & LS3 PVC routing are different. I'm fuzzy on the details so will say no more.

The LS3 PVC setup pulls the pressure not from the valve cover, but from the Valley cover. This is the cover that resides under the intake manifold, and sits between the 2 cylinder heads under the plenum. GM instructs the left side PVC port to be capped off. If your running an LS1 set up you can upgrade to an LS6 style PVC system by replacing the valley cover.

For now I'm going to run it over the intake and swap to LS6 PCV later. Thanks Dan you have been a big help.

Nice work fabing up the intake. One concern I have is you engine going to starve for air at the upper RPM due to reduce air volume.
I built a LS1 up to 430HP, one issue i had was the small diameter LS1 MAF. I went to an 6.0 L truck MAF and it made a huge difference above 4500 RPM. I already put a larger TB before I changed the MAF.

dclafleur 09-05-2013 09:24 PM

With his turbocharger he might be going for more of a speed density type setup anyways.

vettedan 09-05-2013 09:34 PM

I would be concerned with a real rich condition at the upper RPM's

Using the card. Not really worried about to much at this point. I've done my homework from mapping the turbo all the way down pipe size and length. Only thing I don't like is the 3 inch coming out of the turbo. I wanted 4 inch until a certain point where the exhaust cools enough to go back down to 3inch to keep a raspy exhaust tone but I've already stuffed it full and run out of room.

Just did this on my 85 with LS1. Switched to the LS6 breather, and modified the valve cover. Was easy, will update my thread (in sig) when I get a chance...

:lurk: Might be going down this route once I make my '93 stop and handle better.

Yes. Isn't it ironic that tomorrow there is suppose to be a new casting to replace the Dana 44 sitting at the shop

STEVEN13 10-22-2013 07:08 AM

Hi COPO,

Are you going to do a complete back-half?

My 92 is almost completed. I went with a 9" Alum center-Strange Housing with wishbone locator.

Good Luck! Looking forward to seeing your finished result.

Regards,
Steve

COPO 10-22-2013 12:57 PM

No plans on a full back half due to what I plan on doing.
Have a thread on yours.

dclafleur 10-22-2013 01:35 PM

Doing a whole new replacement chassis?:willy:
