The best is the 06. It comes with the semi-optional spontaneous removable roof. Doesn't everyone want that in a vette?

Which ever one....you happen to have!

Easy. 2009 Atomic Orange Mettalic Z06. Here's why:
AOM color is a bit loud, but turns heads like a ferrari, and the shading from that color shows off the lines better on the car. I think it actually makes the car look better than it really is. AOM ran from 2007-2009. However the TR6060 trans was introduced in 2008. So that eliminates the 2007. I think early TR6060's had some problems and were a bit clunky. Also, I believe the major supplier to the vette (Delco) was replaced by Bosch in 2009. My dad has a 2009 AOM Z and I have a 2008 AOM Z. I think I'd go with the 2009. There is a lot of minutea that would make this post unneccessarily long. |
thanks you guys for your expertise.. so a 2009 would be the earliest year to go to.. but wouldnt that z07 package and carbon help it a little faster maybe ? or not much?
i def understand about the lines.. with the coloring |

i def understand about the lines.. with the coloring The only place a Z07 optioned Z06 "might" be faster than a standard Z06 would be on a Road Course because of the better brake system. In a straight line, a Z07 optioned Z06 is just a hundred plus extra pounds to lug around. |
i see i didnt realize that.. so getting a z06 i just gotta decide if i want the collectible limited edition few made or just a good 2009 or newer i take it ... thanks guys any more info will be appreciated

The Z07 package is the one to have IMO, but since they're still so new, they were going for more than I wanted to spend.
So out of the non-Z07 Z06s, they are all about the same. Can't go wrong with any year Z06 IMO. If you want to dig into details... 2006s are the lightest of all Z06s. 08+ got a slightly stronger tranny, but gearing is the same. |

This was discussed previously about the extra weight of the Z07 package. Did we ever get a consensus or legit answer as I remember we had numbers from all over the place. FWIW the GVWR on my driver's door is 3666.

I would say 2007 or 2006 is the best year if your going to modify it without a doubt. Yah it has the T56 but they have been proven for a long time to be good transmissions. An RPM V T56 will do just fine when it comes to big power... if you want auto it doesn't matter what year as a conversion is a must. Best part is the 06 07 cars are in the 3200 range that is 450lbs lighter than some of the newer optioned ones. 450lbs is a LOT.

Been there done that..........it's kinda over rated. I'm just glad it didn't hit anyone when it came off and I was able to find it on the side of the interstate. This was actually in my base model. I never had that issue with one of my previous 06 Z06's but did with another one. Personally I really like the 08+ (which is what I currently have). Better trans and better interior. |
Mine!

Ah my bad that was a GVW quote above not curb. I am guessing most of the weight in the newer ones comes from the sound dampening etc then? Seems only about 50lbs on newer Z06s then.

2010=518 2011=904 2012=478 So in terms of numbers, you will find it much more difficult to get a good selection in 2010 model year, a lil better in '11, and worse in '12. Good Luck |

no, most of the increased weight on the newer ones is from the upgrades...ie, the updated Trans, the increased dry sump capacity, power hatch pull down, etc. worthwhile weight imo. |
