OP: is that the stock relay rod, or did you get a rebuilt one? Is the idler arm the stock unit, or did you get a 'new' one? The other posters are correct, the tie rod goes to the rear-most hole in the spindle rod for manual steering. There were a few different relay rods used on '68s, depending on the build dates - - however, unless I'm wrong, the shapes were not different, just 3/5 holes depending on PS/Manual and the build date.
I'll see if I can get a few pics of ours tonight/tomorrow. This one I have on my pc from when I rebuilt everything last year may help. Best, Paul https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.cor...2f3aadb13e.jpg |

All "new" parts. I guess I'll just button everything up and see how it goes once I get a body on it (it's only a rolling chassis).
All of that goes away when you put the thing on the ground, regardless of whether it’s a rolling chassis or a fully assembled car. |

Please report back and let us know if that solves your problem! I'll be doing this also very soon. A d since I have both a manual and a PS parts, I have no idea if one works better than the other.

Your pic in post #6 looks almost exactly like this L72 I found. Grease fittings about 1-2" lower than the control arm bushings.
So I think you are good to go. https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.cor...33304c9e1a.jpg https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.cor...266c6279ef.jpg |
