OP: is that the stock relay rod, or did you get a rebuilt one? Is the idler arm the stock unit, or did you get a 'new' one? The other posters are correct, the tie rod goes to the rear-most hole in the spindle rod for manual steering. There were a few different relay rods used on '68s, depending on the build dates - - however, unless I'm wrong, the shapes were not different, just 3/5 holes depending on PS/Manual and the build date.

I'll see if I can get a few pics of ours tonight/tomorrow. This one I have on my pc from when I rebuilt everything last year may help. Best, Paul

All "new" parts. I guess I'll just button everything up and see how it goes once I get a body on it (it's only a rolling chassis).

Im not guessing here. I had the exact same situation when my frame was up in the air when putting the front end on it. The tie rod grease zerk fittings actually struck the lower control arm in my case. I had to leave them out till I got the car on it’s tires.

All of that goes away when you put the thing on the ground, regardless of whether it’s a rolling chassis or a fully assembled car.

I'm sure you have, but I'll ask anyway. Did you match all the original parts against the 'new' parts for size, shape, etc.?

Please report back and let us know if that solves your problem! I'll be doing this also very soon. A d since I have both a manual and a PS parts, I have no idea if one works better than the other.

Your pic in post #6 looks almost exactly like this L72 I found. Grease fittings about 1-2" lower than the control arm bushings.
So I think you are good to go.
