As a current owner of two Corvettes, one of which has been in the family over 20 years now, if you can afford it, keep it. I will do the same when I get into a C8 in a few years, except we may end up with three Corvettes since my 2011 Grand Sport is a manual, front engine rag top, none of which the C8 can offer. And our 2001 is being kept around for sentimental reasons.

Keep the C6, skip the C8

There are lots of issues to consider here. Space for both, financial costs, attachment to the C6, storing can be hard on a car, and what is your gut feeling that you want to do? Personally I would keep it if you can comfortably do it, otherwise let someone else enjoy the car.

Keep them both for now. Make the sell / keep decisión early next summer.

IF I was going to get rid of my C6,I might consider a C7 but never a C8.

Great feedback everyone and really appreciate the mix of perspectives. Have decided to hold off any action for now and give the decision time to simmer. Local dealer has a Rapid Blue Vert 3LT so going to go take a close look. Not in my three color choices so no temptation to bring it home.

Thanks everyone.

While I am fortunate enough to be able to afford a C8 if I wanted one, I really don't. I bought our 2008 new, did the buyers tour at the assembly plant and watched it being built, then NCM delivery. I fit comfortably in it (6'4" tall) and It has never let me down. Being a base model, it rides like a dream, is quite and smooth and still looks great. Within a year or two will be able to take it to NCRS events to shoot for a Top Flight award (they are now judging up to the 2006 model and I still have the original wheels and factory tires). Lastly, I have long gotten over the up-tight worry you have when you have a brand-new car and your concerned about nips and chips and dings. Hey, do what will make you happy, but for me, I am happy with my 'ol friend the 2008.

I have a 2013 C6, 6 sp manual. We take our 2 Yorkies on trips to Florida. No way could we travel in a C8. The 2023 C6 was one of the best made Vettes because any problems had been solved or worked out of the previous C6 years. I have ridden in and driven my friends C8 HTC, there is significantly more more in the C6. I would suggest keep the C6! I feel the C8 has some issues that need more time to resolve, plus it is not a convenient car to travel in.

This was my thinking as well. You say that money and space is not an immediate concern, so see how things go living with the C8. I’m sure each offers its own driving experience. You may find you miss the C6 experience.

Well shoot, so went and drove that Rapid Blue 3LT C8 Vert on the lot that he ordered for an out of state customer who went a different direction. Took it out for a spin and was amazed at the difference to my C6. Sure was a fun experience to drive it. My wife didn't like Rapid Blue when we saw one a few weeks ago with the dual yellow stripes but this one she thought looked much better without the yellow stripes. She seems much more interested now in moving forward with a C8 in the future. Hasn't tempted me to make a change in my current plan to just hold off for now.

The rapid blue with black is sharp. Congratulations!

This is the correct thing to do.

That blue is horrible.....especially the interior......looks like an amusement park ride. I would forget about the C8 and keep the C6.

That's actually two shades of blue in the interior, not black. In-person, it's not they great.

Spaceme1117 07-28-2023 09:37 AM

Huge reason to keep the C6 and skip the C8, is maintenance costs. Oil changes are much more costly. Trans fluid changes are mandatory and absolutely ridiculous; 1st change at 7500 miles, then every 44,500 miles after that. About $1200 - $1500 total cost per change.

And the aesthetic is not good. Rear of the car is just absolutely terrible. Rest of the car is not good and they look worse and worse to me every time I see one.

Yes, great performance but that is not enough for all the other negatives.

And no manual transmission. Ugh.

You are right, it is a dark blue. My color differentiation is not great.

Having sold my first Vette and regretted it since doing so, I'm of the opinion to keep both, your C6 and get the C8 you are seeking. My opinion has nothing to do with the C8, as its not my fav of the Vettes however I do like it IF it is configured correctly in my opinion (totally subjective to each of us of course). But, I now recently purchased a Vette of the generation I sold many years ago, so own 2 Vettes. I drive one basically daily and drive the other one routinely but not as often. I service all of my vehicles so not an issue of cost to maintain, and neither one is a C8 either so maintenance is not costly. My opinion, if cost of ownership and space are not an issue, would be to keep the C6 and get the C8 too.

If paper is no issue and you got a place to garage I would definitely keep both no brainer

GrandSportRob 07-29-2023 01:49 PM

I also bought my C6 GS new 10yrs ago. There’s something special about buying your car new and keeping it forever. I luv seeing these stories about people who bought a C2 new and still have it. 25 yrs from now and it would be a great story seeing my GS still sitting in my garage even if I’m too old and feeble to drive it. Looking back and seeing all the original paperwork and build sheet…..Priceless
