Nice pictures! I worked on the B&O/CSX into Chicago. I never had the pleasure of hauling Corvettes. All of the cars had keys in the ignition. More than once when we were stopped for a long time I'd get in one and turn the a/c and the radio one🙂

I began working for a railcar builder that mostly built auto racks back in 66/67 time period until '82. I can pretty much guarantee that I personally climbed over many of the rail cars in these photos! Checking welds, hinge decks, bridges, etc. etc.

Not a carload, but keeping with the corvettes & trains theme.

A Jordan Spreader is a piece of equipment used for maintaining the right of way. It is pushed by a locomotive and can extend huge wings in various angles and configurations to dig ditches, spread dirt or stone, plow snow, and lots of other useful tasks. I'm pretty sure the machine is stationary at the time of the pic, and it looks like it MIGHT clear the Vette anyway. But if that was my car I'd move it back a few feet just for peace of mind!

Hey - who stole the wheels and bumpers? A carload of '64 bodies headed from the A.O. Smith plant in Michigan to St Louis for assembly.
