The 64 mystique is very real. When I bought mine I felt I had to sneak it into the shop under cover of darkness so the neighbors wouldn't have me committed.
But I have come to love it as much as my 65 and 02 Z06. She has a personality all her own. Sure, no disk brakes, not BB, but everything else is there. And she even has some neat interior features that the 65-67 lost. But companies like ProTeam are also to blame for the lack of interest in the 63 roadsters and all 64's. Just got the Proteam news letter this morning via email and as always thay are looking to buy C1-C2's. The add reads, "We wish to purchase select 1953 to 1962's, 1963 Split Windows, 1965 to 1967's, etc etc." I know they're in business and need to make profitable business decisions, but they seemed to have skipped a year in there. 64's aren't unrestorable or falling apart as they go down the road. I think the 64 market will heat up a little as the supply and demand continues. Also there is a school of thought that makes some stock market folks pull cash out and invest in other things (cars etc) when you have the volitility of today's market. So now that I've rambled on I'll close with - 64's are C2's just like all the rest. :smash: I'm going to go for a ride in my 64 now..................:leaving: |

64s are really nice cars!

Congratulations! Good find.
When I was shopping for a mid-year several years ago, most of the cars I looked at were '64s. My goal was to find a driver that looked good and had sound mechanicals. I ended up buying a '65 because the one I found was in better shape than any of the '64s I looked at. I've always figured that the Corvette sitting in my garage was the best Corvette -- whatever it was at the time. If I had ended up with a '64, it would have been the best. :yesnod: |

Thanks again for all of the nice comments. I took delivery about two weeks ago and got started fixing little things here and there. Also took a first pass at detailing the engine compartment and cleaning up the interior and exterior.
Took it out for my first extended drive last Sunday to join in on a red corvette only GTG. Hottest dam day of the year in Texas (104) and I have no AC :ack: . That quickly became the first major add on for the car and is being installed this week. Couple of pics from Sunday. http://i37.photobucket.com/albums/e9...e/IMG_0725.jpg http://i37.photobucket.com/albums/e9...e/IMG_0729.jpg |

'64's a step child? Not to me--they're full blooded C2 Corvettes, IMO.
As for wheels, definitely consider TT D's, perhaps with American Racing Carlisle spinners. |
I wish I had known about the all red GTG. I would have brought my 64 even though it was hotter than &%$#.

Thank each of you for the great comments on the car. I love the car, but have not been able to drive it for the last several weeks since I first got it so that I could have some things done.

'64 Vette
I bought my '64 on 6/13/07 , it was located in my home state, we now have 379 miles on it, we just love it. My wife drove it to the last two cruises. I have been busy with mine as well -
Worked on Holley carb. [L76] it leaked real bad,new transfer tube , ch. power valve, accelerator pump bladder, secondary vac. bladder. installed right hand mirror for co-pilot Everything new on brake sys.--drums,shoes,fluid lines, hoses,wh. cyl. master cyl. springs for shoes. directional switch lower steering column bearing I rebuilt the headlight motors installed halogen headlights new dash bulbs cigarette lighter headlight switch [for lights] new tires and new spare sandblasted wheels and epoxy paint new strut rubber bushings on rear new spring cushions new front trailing arm rubber bushings replaced heater hoses, flushed sys. new battery [ redtop] replaced air cleaner[ k&N] fuel filter changed fluid in rear and Muncie. I have a lot more to do this winter. Tomorrow morning [ 9/22/07] there is going to be a parade in my town [Octoberfest type thing] and the Corvette will be in it. |
If you want to put original drum brake Torq-Thrusts on your car, listen to the voice of experience:
I put 15 x 6, 1 inch offset orighinal Torq-Thrust aluminum Sport Wheels on my '64 back in '67 or '68. Even with super-skinny 7.75 x 15 tires I had to sand out the inner lip of the rear fenders to make them fit (front clearance was okay). If you want to run wide tires like most 'Vette people, get the late-'60s disc-brake Torq-Thrusts. The outward-curved spokes take some getting used to, but you can run 7-inch rims and 60 series tires without having to cut the body. Plus wheel offset is closer to stock so handling, steering, braking and bearing life are much better! Whoops! Just went back to page 2 and saw your pics. NICE looking Buick-style wires. They give it a kustom car show vibe! My choice today would be a set of those two-piece repro sand-cast Halibrand-style wheels with five little holes and ribs in between, plus dummy knock-off center caps. Look at early Grand Sport or Corvette SS pictures to get an idea. And not very wide, I'd want it to look like a period add-on. Hey, that's why they make 31 ice cream flavors. Enjoy your fine coupe! |

No late-model Mercedes will ever match the appreciation of a C2 or be as cool to look at.

It's good to be you !!!!
I'm so jealous, but very happy for you.
I'm looking for my first Corvette. I'm thinking a '64 may be my best entry option into the club. CONGRATULATIONS on your new BABY! Let me know how you talk your wife into parking her Lexus outside. My wife also has a Lexus so I could use the same argument. |
Corvettes are like sex, they're all good, some are just better than others. I wouldn't stutter for a moment if I had a chance at a 64, or any midyear, or c1. Enjoy it.

Nice looking car......yep, change those wheels! I think I would go with American Racing Torque Thrusts...not chrome, but the dark grey spoke classic jobs. There are also some nice looking "Halibrand" style wheels out there....enjoy the ride!

The older interior is far better looking than the later C-2 interiors. The semi roll and tuck is so superior to the moulded plastic that came later. I would never consider your car a step child. The red/red is awsome.
congratulations |
