Lastly, will we have to readjust our lights once we put the new cutoffs in?

I'm sending payment today.

When can we expect the kits?

You shouldn't have to, but it wouldn't be a bad idea to check the vertical alignment.

still awaiting payment from a few on the list. Please check your PMs for payment details if you have not yet paid. I will be ordering the 55w Kits tomorrow.

those of you that have not specified your color preference, I will order the same color you originally have in your kit but in the 55w version.

sorry George, Ill get it handled in the morning

Most everyone has payed or is payment pending. I ordered the 55w kits today. Decided on a different vendor for the kits. The new vendor provides a bulb with slightly more xenon gas in it for longer bulb life, less color shifting and a more even output.

....cost a little more, but you guys are worth it.

Pics to come

Sounds great, thanks! I can't wait to upgrade my headlights!

Good to hear, and thanks for the update!

My supplier has informed me the HID kit will be shipped tomorrow. The 4300k bulbs were limited quantity and more had to be made. I will post again once they arrive and have Comparison shots of various combinations

BenC5 10-19-2009 09:15 PM

Thanks for the update TRF.

Might you share the breakdown #'s for the orders, 4300/5000/6000?

6 people went with 4300K
2 went with 6000K

I bought some of each for the LC 2.0 demo, some for the SLCs and a few in 3000k for doemstic and euro style fogs.

55w HID kits arrived today. I got some test shots of them compared to the 6000K 35w kit i had in stock.

I will test each kit individually before shipping them out. I will also be posting a video of how to install and "tune" your cutoff shields.

6000K 35w HID kit is on right.
(note the 55w projector has not had it's shield "tuned")

FYI for those who haven't ordered, 5000k is a great compromise between 4300k and 6000k. For my tastes, 6000k weren't bright enough. too much of that blue light got sucked up by the blacktop and I found it very fatiguing to my eyes. 4300k were the absolute best for driving, period. But the 55w 5000k's that I am running now still provide great usable output and look slick at the same time.

I'm about halfway through testing the kits. Most of the day was spent finishing the SLC molds.

I expect them to be packed and ready to ship tomorrow.

clif 10-28-2009 07:46 PM

Awesome! I can't wait to get my set to install!

TheRadioFlyer97 10-29-2009 05:51 PM

I decided instead of making the video on how to tweak the shields, I would just test each shield individually and adjust them. This means that there shouldn't be any adjusting necessary by the consumer. (though I urge you to check to make sure the pattern is satisfactory prior to re-assembling and installing the projector)

All the upgraded kits are packed and will ship out UPS first thing in the morning.

Tools needed: everything you used to install your light cannons. (minus an 11mm socket)

Here's the installation procedure:

1) Remove your Light cannons completely making sure to disconnect your HIDs, High beam socket and Halos if you have them. You will not need to remove the aluminum frame from the OEM headlight frame.

2) Remove your HID ballast and replace it with the new 55w slim ballast. You can use thee included mounting hardware or use 3M mounting tape. The input to the new ballast installs the same way as the old ballast. You'll see a small box on the output wire. This is the "igniter" I suggest using mounting tape to secure this to a stable flat surface. I also recommend using replacing thee 10 amp fuses with 15 amp fuses with the wiring harness.

3) Remove the low beam projector by firmly tapping the 3 mounting tabs from the rear.

4) Around the edge of the projector are 3 Phillips head screws with white washers on them. Remove these. This will separate the projector main lens from the body

http://i606.photobucket.com/albums/t...s/IMG_0952.jpg

5) You will see 6 torx 20 screws on the projector body. 3 hold the lens frame and 3 hold the cutoff shield. Remove the leens frame first, then the cutoff shield. (they will be firmly in place so make sure you have a good grip on the projector and t20 screwdriver

http://i606.photobucket.com/albums/t...s/IMG_0954.jpg

http://i606.photobucket.com/albums/t...s/IMG_0955.jpg

6) Install your new curved cutoff shield using the original screws so the curve bends towards the rear of the body:
(note: this picture was of the prototype shield)
http://i606.photobucket.com/albums/t...s/IMG_0725.jpg

7) Re-install the lens frame. At this point I suggest you test your lights to ensure the cutoff is adequate. Install the bulb and test them with your new ballasts

7a) If the cutoff is not sharp you can adjust by using a flathead screwdriver to press on the center-top of the cutoff shield. Pressing the shield towards the rear will give you more blue in the cutoff and pressing towards the front will sharpen the pattern.

8) Once you’re satisfied with your cutoff, Re-assemble the projector and re-install it to the frame by firmly pressing all 3 mounting tabs back in the holes. (These must be pressed in not pounded or the plastic tabs will break)

9) Test and enjoy your new lights. Re-aiming shouldn’t be necessary, but you should check to make sure. I recommend the left side of the cutoff be no higher than 22” from the ground at 15’

If you have any questions PM me.

you have no idea...after spending several hours in thee shop going from dark to 55w HID bright aiming 10 pairs of cutoff shields I feel i might have been better off staring into a class 4 laser

Next time, wear some sunglasses and protect your eyes. When I was running 55w in my high beam reflectors it gave me night blindness to a degree I didn't think possible. Not so in the main beams, but dayum! Lesson learned!

jrc27 10-29-2009 08:57 PM

What would be the effect of running them without the cut-off and using them as a high beam instead of the reflector? Which way would provide more light output? :lurk:

the reflector has more output. Here's an earlier comparons i did between a HID reflector high beam (on left) and an HID projector with the cutoff shield removed (right)

Both modules are using 6000K 35w HID kits.

The projector is less effeecient at output beecause of the fresnel lens. every time light is reflected or augmented, it looses intensity. The reflector high beam bounces it just once while the projector bounces the light once, then through a focusing lens and out the main lens.
