You *can* make power w/ side pipes, but you may have to get creative depending on your power levels. Here's a 715 RWHP dyno run through side pipes. Sound quality is in the ear of the beholder.

Love my '66 L79. Although somewhat hard of hearing at 72, I can have a conversation with my passenger w/o any problem.

Absolutely NOT, if the correct fiberglass heat shields are in place.

As I lose more hearing every day I find I really enjoy quiet more than ever. So in my earlier years I would love to have sidepipes for the cool look and great sound. Today I want quiet mufflers. Did I get older? YEP

https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.cor...2114aff0c4.jpg The price includes the rear valance and paint? I believe the side pipes help visually to lower the car. The side pipes also defines the cam lope a lot clearer. And side pipes raucous makes you seem to be going faster than you are. The ones I have are loud on the highway, there are quieter mufflers available that are similar in volume to rear exhausts. No long distance driving, just cruising around to get a dose of adrenaline |

It does look good without.
https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.cor...67e1de019e.jpg I have had Two midyears with them only because they were on the cars when I bought them. To me they take away from the beautiful lines of the most iconically designed Corvette ever and make the car look like a big bellied Bass. They were too loud for me and both were the standard factory type SE. To each their own but I could certainly find better things to do to my car with $4k |
Under the car exhaust is a gentlemans Corvette.
Sidepipe Vette is not. I am NO gentleman. Noise to loud for your wife on a long trip? Hand her ear plugs. Good luck and OP ,right now you have a nice gentlemans Corvette. |
If you do go with sidepipes, please plan on changing the rear valence. Pet peeve is C2 corvettes that add side exhaust and don't replace the rear valance which leaves you with a Corvette with two empty port holes where the chambered under car exhaust used to exit. When I was shopping for mine, I past on a car that was within 100 miles of me because it was converted to sidepipes without the proper valence and I wasn't keen on dealing with a body shop to fix it. Do it right is my advice.
My 67 NOM 327 is a Smith body car that the former owner converted to sidepipes (all Smith body C2's came with the chambered under car exhaust) and I like them. Of course I have a JBL boombox to blast my tunes so I can hear them over the pipes, which is ok by me.:D |
I'm fortunate that I think C2s look like the best design GM ever made with or without them.
2nd best is the '65 Riviera. I already own the third best looking design GM ever made in my opinion. |
For those worried about burning your legs, go with the shorty version......

Not to get the thread off track, but is that your D&D GS? If so, is it #069, the Tim Allen GS? I heard it went to somewhere in the Pacific northwest.

Have had a 66 with sidepipes and currently have a 65 without sidepipes
and I really prefer the sound from in the car and the look of the car without sidepipes But that’s just me. https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.cor...cda826889.jpeg https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.cor...9047519ae.jpeg |

Yep. I think it's in part to so many side pipes that look the same sound so different from mild to wild.
