Wish I could tell you Yellow but I haven’t got my car started yet. The goal was to fire it up a week or to ago but stuff keeps happening and I’m not there yet. I will be interested to see the results as well. If it does get hot, I will just put a scrap piece of Thermotec in there I guess.

Spoke to an Avanti owner who tells me the back of the light does get hot.
On his car he is not concerned because the heat can flow out away from the back of the lamps.

I plan on installing new Holley LED retrofits next week and will measure the bucket temp with an IR gauge

It would be nice to have a direct comparison between the temp of the original lights compared to the temp of the Holley LED retrofits. Guasto2021, can you get a temp reading on the original lights BEFORE you test the Holley LED retrofits?

Thanks.

Absolutely!

I think your findings, Guasto2021, will be helpful to many following this thread.

I took a long ride last night with my Holley LEDs on. After about 45 minutes of driving, the outside of the headlight housing on my 65 was cool to the touch. I don’t think I’m going to bother instrumenting the inside of the can, I’m convinced there’s no problem.

Thanks so much for checking your LED's.
I guess we can assume you like the Holley LED's.
Did you say which LED set you install.

I’ve just installed the normal Holley LED headlights, not the brights. I found that the combination of two LED bulbs and two standard sealed beams provides adequate lighting both with and without the brights on. The light pattern of the LED bulbs is a bit splotchy, but not objectionable. The pattern has a distinct upper limit, so opposing drivers don’t see stray light. My red 65 car tend to sit a bit low in the front and it was difficult to adjust the light pattern high enough, so I altered the threaded nylon upper attachment to allow the top adjusting screw to to pull the top of the bulb in about .06” more. Most cars won’t need this.

Installed my Retro brights tonight, left them in stock configuration since I don't want to attract the sheriffs attention with 4 lights on low beam; the main highway is a 4 lane with just a single turn lane in the middle. Pretty happy with how bright they were shining in the garage, even the 2 low beams.
