You can make a V6 appealing, depending on the approach and how much exhaust tuning it receives. If you hear a 370Z with an exhaust, you'll know what a V6 can truly sound like. In essence, a V6, based upon cylinder firing is half a V12, so you can make a V6 sound badass.
Now, in the FordGT's case, the race car sounds like a duck quacking, but the street version is a little more inspiring. Turbocharging a V6 is clearly going to be an audible challenge because the turbo's themselves muffle the sound. Shy of running an opened downpipe, getting a nice sound would be tough. V6's can be potent though, with forced induction and especially if you're putting hybrid action into to the mix for torque fill. I think the critical part for Corvette owners is big torque and audible sound. The number of cylinders isn't necessarily what's critical, but instead it's those two factors. |
