Dang it....my fuel sending unit isn't working now...even after pulling it twice to check my work. I must have tore something up.

Oh, I started the car.......

Great job and sorry for the dumb question but....
What is pinning the crank and why do it?
Thanks

I'm hooked! I check in every time I have a chance just to see how you are doing. I would like to know how you managed to arrange the plumbing in the above photo and how the bottom panels inside the fender wells look now. Could you please post a picture?

Thanks for taking the time to post your "journey" through this project :woohoo:

I took the camera and tried to take a pic from the same angle with the bottom bolted up. The front tire covers it up pretty much, however if you look at your stock frontend.....it's basically the same. The only difference is the 3" tubing coming down and crossing into the 3 1/2" opening beside the brake air duct. I'll try something different tomorrow to show the set-up.

It is installing a metal dowel between the crank and the damper so it doesn't spin on the crank.

It's like this... back in the ole days your balancer was keyed onto the crankshaft, which prevented it from spinning lose and wrecking havoc. But GM decided it was easier to "press fit" the balancer on the crankshaft, which is fine for normal and spirited driving in most cases. Today, "pinning the crank" is done to secure the balancer to the crankshaft with a steel pin drilled in between the crank and balancer so it can't spin off due to increased horsepower and fast reving.

I hope I answered your question, there's far smarter peeps here than me.

And congratulations again, I read that you already started it and everything went fine!

Any pics of your gauge(s) setup and did you upgrade your springs?

I tried to get a better shot, but the car is too low and camera won't slid under. Tire is in the way, so this is the best I could do today.

The tubing is snugged up pretty tight to the frame.

Wow, you did a great job making everything fit! Now I'm looking forward to read about the tune :willy:

I have no gauges yet, and I already have PAC beehive springs.

Rick,

Really enjoyed reading about your project. What's really impressive is how your car evolved from a stock C5 to an awesome C5 and then into something even more awesome !

Congratulations and Good Job !

What I have enjoyed the most, is this car. It never ceases to amaze me. I wanted a Corvette and after having a couple of C4's I can't describe my love affair with this C5. I have been learning more about it and the amount of aftermarket support is enormous and the skies the limit.

Being able to read Bill's (Evil Twins) comments is really amazing cause it's rare indeed to get a Engineers/Designers who actually had a hand in developing it. Then also the vendors who put so much work and investment in offering the best anyone could offer to us.

So I can never understand someone who just complains about the car with so many upgrades in every aspect out there to do.

Believe it not, I have people following me so they can get a better look at it. I'll never be rude or complain since it's one of those scream in your face cars.

A big tip of the hat to you. I always admire a guy who can complete his vision toward personal happiness.

I do some work on my car, so I have a slight idea of the difficulty involved and realized that you must have solved many problems along the way.

My skills are more along the musical lines, and working on cars is kind of a fish out of water deal for me. Having the pictures and a description of the work gives me insight, even if I might never develop my mechanical skills to that level. I do better visually than with written instructions, so everything helps.

I now know when to pin my crank, something missing from my previous knowledge. Bonus.

Way to go Rick!! Great job...enjoy!!! Do you have final numbers/results from the tune??

printmanjackson 08-15-2013 11:53 PM

The dyno run was 522rwhp and 482tq, but the tuner found my fuel pressure dropped off at the top end and when I get the fuel line straightened out it would show another 30rwhp. bumping it up to 552rwhp. I did go back into the fuel tank and removed the tie-strap that was creating the restriction, kinked fuel line.

But on a side note....... That last dyno showed the horsepower as a minimum starting point a minus -25rwhp then the max at 522rwhp. So I don't really know if that means it's 522 or 550?

Numbers are pretty much up in the air for interptation, but the car does show a 250rwhp increase from say a stock base line of 300rwhp. Not too shabby for a Si-trim on a 3.6" pulley.
