A friend of mine told me about this 63 in the back yard of his neighbors house. The owner doesnt live at the house. My friend said its been there for at least ten years. I am trying to get a hold of the owner to see if he needs it hauled away. :-) Mark

Too bad the roof doesn't go just a little further over...that interior has got to be a mess.
I agree with Groovy, that second photo is just a fantastic shot. |
There may not be too much remaining to steal but I'm surprised that a car like this in full street view hasn't had the fence broken into and the car hacked for fun by some juvenille delinquents.

My friend said it was covered up until recently, he didnt even know it was a corvette. its in a back alley and only neighbors can see it. |
UPDATE: Finally got a hold of the owner. He said its not on the original frame and has a straight axle front end. No motor or trans. he is meeting me at the later so I can check it out. Will keep you updated.

If it has a VIN still with a legit title...I smell resto-mod

Ray Raybe baybe, who do you think is responsible for installing those fender flairs? I suspect delinquents. </sarcasm> |

Why do I feel a scammer... Two threads.. two Screen names...
Just saying... Either way it's a basket case with no glass or trim, 67 front end, 63 coupe rear... No idea what really is there.. I once again say... SCAMMER... Dave |

Update on frankenvette
3 Attachment(s)
UPDATE: Turns out it's a Frankenvette. I finally met the owner of this car. It's a empty shell with a 68 front clip, straight axle front end. He said the frame is a c2 64 or 65, it has drum brakes on rear and looks to be c2 IRS. He thinks he has a title for the frame. No vin plate or trim tag. He has an extra set of coupe doors. Its been sitting under a metal roof and rusty water has been draining on it. Birdcage has surface rust and in some places it looks a little worse. The trim that goes around the back windows looks like it could be saved and cleaned with 000 brillo. He said he wants 2k or make offer, I think he will go a lot lower. I thought I would post this just in case a forum member could use something from this car. If anyone is interested send me a pm and I can get you in touch with the owner. The car is located in Washington DC. Its been sitting in the same spot for 20 years. Mark

Without a VIN tag, it is hard to do much more than build a race car.
And it isn't like you can just buy a VIN tag and weld it on there. Very illegal. The '68/'69 nose blends in better than I would have expected. If you can somehow get a title, and maybe a state issued VIN tag, then you could put it on the street. Potential for a resto rod. Be wild at cruise night with a straight front axle Corvette. Frame looks like Corvette from firewall back and '63 from the drums on the trailing arms. The pictures don't show how badly the frame is butchered where they added for the straight axle to mount. $2000 probably isn't a bad deal over all, if you can get some proof of ownership. Reread your note above. With a title, you can probably get the state to issue a VIN plate to the same number if it matches the frame. Or there is a place in Texas that makes original type VIN plates, but you have to go through the police to get it as there are legal requirements. Then you could actually put it on the street as a wild blast from the past. You have a '63 frame there but I can't see what damage there is. The bird cage has some rust, but may be well repairable and with the car so open, not that hard to access the repair areas. You have a complete '63 rear end, it looks like. You have a four speed and drive shaft so odds are the rear end is intact. There are a lot of parts. If you only buy it and part it out, you are probably still good. But for probably $15,000 investment, you could have a cool "rat rod" Corvette from the past. What would be funnier still, is if that long block in there was the original engine. |
I dont think this car will ever see the road again. I just posted it thinking maybe some may have a damaged roof or needed some rear end components.
|
WOW - that greenish tint on the 2nd photo is just cool.
What a project. Thanks for posting. Kevin |
Well worth 2 grand. The trim alone is worth that.

I'm always the one preaching the fun of the project, the satisfaction of bringing something back from near dead, don't let the cost run you off, etc.
Well, I'd be running the other way from that one! :ack: Too bad. Parts, yes. Project - too much for me! |
damn that's gonna need alot of work .. even if it's for 2 grand, you're gonna need so much more for restoration.. man that's a very big project!
please let us know what happens with it man |
Pauly could bring it back! First the Truckster, next the Frankenvette??
Somebody should make him aware of this thread! |
No fresh air vents at the cowl. Drag racers don't need wipers either!
|
Ha I just bought it

http://content.screencast.com/users/...05-04_1836.png I think Rick Springfield might want it as-is, but nobody else. btw, I grew up in Washington D.C. ... approximately where was it? |

Ah just kidding guys , I wish I knew where it was cause I would be in the truck right now going to pick it up . That thing is a goldmine of parts I see at least 7 to 10 k in hard to get chrome and 63 doors then you have a lot of fiberglass panels to sell . Anyways I still have 2 more 63 projects to build and am just finishing up that never hit 63 conv body it is built to the same specs as the truckster and sold to a guy in Texas . I wont even get to enjoy it . http://forums.corvetteforum.com/atta...1&d=1304548754
|
is it a numbers matching block?
|
the only #s that match are the vin tag and title:rofl:
|
Another update. Today I made a verbal agreement with a restoration shop for some body work on my 66 coupe as a finder fee for helping them secure the car. I think that is the best deal for me. Originally I just wanted to see someone make use of it and didn't want anything in return, but what the heck. Mark

Well it's still a verbal agreement with the restoration shop! So I think you might still be able to buy it.. check with the owner, maybe he'd sell it to you

That would be a unique project.

ANOTHER UPDATE,I just bought this 63 shell. The guy also gave me a lot of parts that go with it. Dash frame, spare tire tub, 2 extra coupe doors. etc. I plan on trading the car to a restoration shop toward some work on my 66 L36 coupe. We just have to agree on how much this 63 is worth, any ideas? Mark

What are those tail lights? Nova?

When I saw the thread title "Abandoned 63 coupe" the first thought that came to mind was:
"Yea, right....and I bet BigFoot was driving it? And Moth-man was riding shotgun?" This story is has the makings of a great "Urban Legend" which really happened! I wonder what it will be transformed into? Another original one-owner documented never-hit numbers-matching fuelie? :D |
It looks better than some I have dragged home.

Another great candidate for the the " Barn Finds" display to be held at Corvettes at Carlisle this August. Also, this car is not far away from there right now!

It's gonna look beautiful I'm sure! What a beauty :thumbs::thumbs::thumbs::thumbs: |
It can star in Fast and Furious Six. They'll have to make some additional "sacrificial" copies for the stunts.

Wife woulda cut my nards off ,but need/want it

So what is the story behind the car as far as how it became a pile. Did you ask about what the owner knows about the car and how it was used and customized/raced/never finished project? I want the story of the car's early years.
