Zlr doors revealed!!!

What's up guys! If you've been following along with the Vertical Door INC kit Special I've been running on the forums, you might have remembered me mentioning a top secret project that Vertical Doors Inc was working on. Here is is in all of it's glory! This kit is extremely sexy and will definitely turn heads.

Bat Man 05-12-2011 12:40 PM

What makes this different from the 100x other vertical door kits?

RockIT9 05-12-2011 12:42 PM

Nice!! i like it, can you show us how does it open??

Take a look at the doors and you'll see the difference :)

dgrant3830 05-12-2011 01:29 PM

Yeah, looks cool and functional other than in parking lot. I mean someone would park it away from other cars but the reality is someone is always pulling up close and parking next to us, just to be associated. So then we come out and can't open the door to get in because someone else parked next to us. Now if it could be setup as a dual type opening which would be a mechanical nightmare to design, then you could get around this problem.

To each their own. If it holds up, it's a unique product and I wish you the best in finding a buyer. I'm not one, but there must be many who are. Do a good job, treat the customer right, put out a quality product, and I think you deserve a big  even if it isn't someone's style, it's someone else's.

WICKEDFRC 05-12-2011 01:35 PM

Clean looking design.

I notice it looks much better opening and closing the doors with windows rolled down.

Do these door open conventionally as well, or do you lose all stock functionality with the conversion?

Are they only for C6?

ShopSFM 05-12-2011 01:40 PM

Here's a little more illustration of how the doors differ from regular vertical doors

I kinda like it. How much will this run?

artz66 05-12-2011 02:21 PM

Looks pretty cool. I like it

MARSC6 05-12-2011 02:46 PM

Are these really bolt on or is there cutting required?

How about your own garage?

Xedes 05-12-2011 03:27 PM

Unique looking but I would need to pull my other car out of the garage to get in and out of my corvette. Great new look for the show car people.

LJD51 05-12-2011 03:55 PM

From watching the video, it looks like the OP's doors swing open wider than a Lambo door before swinging up which also appears to give more entry room than a Lambo door.

I would be great to see an overhead video of both style doors to see the actual difference.

lastcowboy 05-12-2011 04:19 PM

nice

Racer 05-12-2011 04:25 PM

Looks like a great product for those interested in it. The doors look like they close (latch) easier than factory ones.

SilverScorp 05-12-2011 04:34 PM

I like it. But I would need to be able to open the doors in the conventional manner as well. I just don't have the side clearance in a parking lot or my Garage to swing my door out like that. If they had the normal option I would be all over this.

EDinPA 05-12-2011 05:00 PM

So you can't get in or out of your car if the windows are up?

Pretty neat concept, I like it and think it will do well with a lot of the show crowd. How easy is the install and what is the cost.

smurfkiller 05-12-2011 06:41 PM

i did just see your add for these in the corvette mag.

Mardis Gras 05-12-2011 07:34 PM

Interesting

BigDs_C6 05-12-2011 07:54 PM

Looks interesting, but just a few concerns.

For one, if the window valet is included, that means it's a must for the windows to go down before the door goes up. Not an issue unless you some how get caught in the rain (I know, it's a long shot but could happen). Also, that means fumbling with the remote every time you get in and out. :ack:

Second, why only at retailers?.. All of the other kits around can be put in DIY style, is there something involved in this one that limits that or is that just a marketing tactic? I for one DIY everything so that definately puts me out of the market and I'm sure there will be others in that group as well. :ack::ack:

Lastly, does it require cutting?.. This has been asked by a few here as well as in the video comments but the answer seems to be avoided. :leaving:

FloydSummerOf68 05-12-2011 10:13 PM

To quote my wife: 'Lambo doors belong on a lambo.'

Looks like a clean setup and it'll probably sell well for the show car bunch, but definitely not for me.

4MuscleMachines 05-13-2011 04:15 AM

Looks good, I am not the type to like this kind of thing, but I could see myself liking them in person and actually buying the kit.

patb23 05-13-2011 01:31 PM

Watched the video and looks like you have to have the windows open when opening the doors. It is a cool product, but not sure about having to open the windows every time I need to open the doors. The parking space that you had at the end of the video was a pretty big spot. I want to see this in action in a mall parking space.

Racer 05-13-2011 01:34 PM

Ever tried to open an normal door in a tight parking spot? You can't, what is the difference? You park on an end spot, case solved. :yesnod:

mitchydkid 05-13-2011 01:48 PM

I can see these looking nice on a show car. I would not be able to live with it on my daily driver though.

Funny, I noticed all the demos had the windows at least half way down. I mumbled to myself, "better come with a window valet." Then I saw that it DOES come with a window valet. Looks like if your not careful you could catch your ear or head on the window as you get in. I've done that before....catch my ear on the window as I'm getting in....it hurts A LOT.

Seems the doors open and close well...appears the engineering was done well. I hope it does well for you.

Now if anyone wants to make a funny door opener for the Vette that actually has BETTER clearance in a parking lot then copy the Koenigsegg and a lot more people will buy. Those doors actually get OUT of the way instead of getting IN the way.

The windows do not need to be rolled down to open or close the doors. We simply did that in the video for easier access for taller people. We have the kit for the c5 and the c6

These are bolt on kits which means you can revert back to the factory hinges if you want to do so. Like most vertical door kits minor trimming of the inner fenders is needed. This kit however will require less trimming than standard vertical door kits. This process may sound evasive but it really isn't. You cannot see the trimming from outside the vehicle and you would really have to scrutinize to actually see it from the inside to see the difference. It looks like it came like that from the factory when done properly

We rolled down the windows for convenience of a taller driver to get inside but they do not need to be rolled down or up for opening or closing the door

AmitZ06 05-17-2011 02:43 PM

im not a fan of 'lambo doors' but that looks badass lol....NICE!!!!

BigDs_C6 05-17-2011 05:57 PM

I see now... it looks like you'll hit your head on the window if they're not rolled down. The guy in the video doesn't look like he's that tall, but I see where the glass could definatly be in his way due to the way the doors open... makes sense.

How much trimming is involved?. Also, why no kits for the DIY crowd?.. It's a long drive to CA for me. :yesnod:

LT1_E85_Corvette 05-17-2011 06:03 PM

I have never seen this style before. different for sure

MARSC6 05-17-2011 06:49 PM

That price kills it for me. I just can't bring myself to spend $3k on door hinges.

brooklync5 05-17-2011 07:13 PM

That us a really cool kit. Almost gulwing like while still keeping the hinges in place. I love it!! Not to many door kit fans on this forum but this one is cool and very different. Great work.

hulksdaddy 05-17-2011 07:20 PM

Looks cool, looks like great engineering, kinda like a hybrid Lambo/Gullwing. My only issue is it seems that you need more space to open them than standard.

Marc V. 05-17-2011 07:20 PM

Definitely unique.

ShopSFM 05-18-2011 01:17 PM

Here's a clip showing that the windows can be rolled all the way up and you can still open and close the door. Also included is a clip at walmart to show you that there is enough clearance for you to get in and out of the vehicle in a parking lot

Proven not

Micandmika7 05-18-2011 04:34 PM

Wow that last video was great for showing space issues. I almost screamed "Noooo!" when he opened the door in the last spot. I just knew he was gonna hit that truck. Great job and look.

dgrant3830 05-18-2011 04:48 PM

They seem a bit wobbly for the lack of a better term but considering how much weight is being lifted, its not bad. What would be really cool would be to motorize them but that would need a worm-drive plus a floor switch to command it to close. Guess it would need some outside switch as well to close it too. Anyway, something to think about for a next revision.

JonathanTX 05-18-2011 05:19 PM

they look like they obstruct ingress/egress quite a bit tho.

patb23 05-19-2011 01:44 PM

One of the biggest issues that i believe most companies don't want to motorize any type of vertical doors is number one safety issues. Most devices that control lift are "dumb" and don't care if there is a limb in the way or a kid etc...you can imagine how many law suits would be filed against a company for that reason. Another issue is cost. Only a select few would shell out the cash for such a minor convenience that it's not even worth the research and development to produce the kit.

:iagree: That one looked way too tight. Looks like the first and second ones are taken in the same parking spot though, just shot from different angles. Still impressive, definatly shows that they can fit in a tight spot. I wonder what the standard swing of the door is.. might be more than the 36" of this kit.

:iagree: Frankly, I'm getting bit tired of this modification. Even Lamborghini seems to have abandoned this concept. Not trying to downplay the quality of your product and I sincerely hope you do well with it, but it seems to me to be a bit late in the product life cycle to be getting into this market. Maybe the "Tuner" crowd still enjoys these, but it's just so wrong to do this to a Corvette IMHO.
