Reproduction "CUP" wheels

Just want to let people know they are in process of being made. Reproduction "CUP" wheels will be here in January, just talked with my rep with factory reproductions at SEMA.

Cherry1 11-02-2011 07:54 PM

My opinion, the spiders are WAY sportier by far!

TNTC4VETTE 11-03-2011 12:18 PM

I really like those.

Turbo6TA 11-03-2011 12:34 PM

We have the "GS" wheels

Now the "TWISTED GS" wheels are going to be made available

And of course the infamous "SPIDER" wheels

I guess we could call these wheels the "BENT SPIDER" wheels

ya think?

BTW ... I like them ... Look great in silver too

el es tu 11-03-2011 01:02 PM

did they mentiuon whether or not the wheels will clear bigger brakes?

C5 2K1 Dream 11-03-2011 03:47 PM

I like those too, glad they're becoming available.

The stock size is 19x10 and 20x12. The come on the Z06 with the Z07, which has the big brakes.

I've been considering buying the OEM and having them powder coated Comp Gray...

jpuli28 11-03-2011 04:52 PM

From Factory Reproduction today...

This wheel will be available in late February to Mid-March. It will be available in a number of sizes and finishes.

Rumor has it you will be producing said wheel come January. Of the sizes avail, will 18x9,19x11 pkg be made? Cost? Any chance of promo pricing or group buy via Corvette Forum?

Those look, well... different. I'll let it go at that.

04_Z06_CE 11-03-2011 08:41 PM

I think the spyders are awesome but the cup wheels look even better imo. However all the cars for now we have seen have had the big zr1 brakes which really fit and fill the wheels great . Do you guys thing the z06/gs brakes will look small in the 19/20 cup wheels ?

Goatdad 11-03-2011 09:22 PM

I love them, can't wait
thanks for the good news.

I should have been more specific - will the repro wheels made for the base version clear bigger brakes?

I called Factory Reproductions in mid January and I was told that the reproduction Cup wheels would not be available until late March/early April. I was also told that the wheels would be available in chrome, black, silver (possibly machined). Since I am looking for a slightly more aggressive stance than stock for my C6 coupe, I asked about the offsets and was told that they would only be available in original stock offsets.

SlickShoes 02-10-2012 03:39 PM

Well, whenever they eventually release them, I'm excited. I loved my black Spyders, and I think I'll love the black Cup's even more!

And that silver set is the first one of the Cup wheel I've seen like it, yet. I dig it!

Most reproductions look cheap and are heavy....just the way it is.

Lol @ "cheap looking" from a guy who prefer's ricecake lambo doors on a Vette.

As far as cheap and heavy, "looking cheap" is subjective. I've sat side by side with other vettes on OEM spyders that were indistinguishable from my repros.

And heavy? Please, do you have any idea what all these baller 3 piece forged wheels weigh? ADV.1's and D2Forged, etc? A lot more than OEM's and usually more than repro castings of the same.

Wasn't a waste at all. Surfing forums is surfing forums, clicks are clicks, and discussions are... you get the picture. If I wasn't looking at one thread I'd have been looking at another.

Good points, but we are not talking about ADV1s or 360s. We are talking about reproductions which are replicas of the real-better quality wheels. Those that buy replicas usually don't consider "baller" wheels.

 How is that exhaust holding together? You ready for a cam swap yet?

Turbo6TA 02-10-2012 10:00 PM

I have installed OEM comp gray Spider wheels on my 2011 GS.

However, all the reproduction wheels I have seen look just like the OEM variety. The only thing that reproductions need is OEM center caps to replace the plain looking reproduction center caps that come with them.

As far as weight, ya, they may be slightly heavier than a comparable OEM wheel, but unless your into serious road racing, I can't see that a couple of pounds extra weight on the wheels is that big of a deal ... there NOT that much heavier at all.

Some people say the reproduction wheels sometimes need alot of lead to balance them ... Well, one of my OEM wheels also took alot of lead to balance too. So, it's a crap-shoot whether or not you get really balanced wheels out of the box (OEM or reproductions)

Just my 2 pesos :)

speedraider 02-10-2012 10:05 PM

Finally got the exhaust leaks fixed all 8 of them . Had to have a 2 in piece welded to the x pipe, it couldn't go back anymore because the o2 sensors were already hitting the frame. Never again with that brand. Sounds good now. I was telling some of my friends about difference that cam made in yours. That some bitch hauls ass, lol.

Per my post, although the wheels will not be available in additional (more agressive) offsets for standard C6, that does not imply that they will no be "available in a number of sizes." I'm pretty sure that they will be available in both standard and wide body sizes, and possibly even C5 sizes, hence Doug's statement, "....number of sizes."

This is what Doug sent me in reply to my email below. I know this is C6 General but I know you guys were interested in these wheels as well:

"We are in the process of making the wheels and will have an 18/19 option for the C5. Expected availability mid-June.

Doug Heideman

My original email:

Hello, I was wondering if you are going to be producing the new C6 "Cup" style wheels. Also, I would like to get them in C5 offsets. I'm thinking either 19/20, 18/19 or 19/19 combos for C5's. Please let me know if you plan on producing these wheels. Thank you!

For those of us seeking more aggressive offsets than stock, I inquired by email and was told that they would only be offering factory offsets.

I just sent an email to Bob and Factory Reproductions ref this and also required they clear big brake kits.

jpuli28 03-12-2012 05:00 PM

Bad news... Factory Reproductions responded with the 19x11s were not big sellers so theres a possibiity they WONT be available.

I will attempt to push production, time will tell.

jpuli28 03-12-2012 07:49 PM

Bob, House of Wheels, says no 19x11's either :(

dkvetteguy 03-12-2012 08:06 PM

have had 2 different set of factory reproductions and there the last. Both sets took a lot of weight to balance[even tried turning tires on rims several times] ! Also they had corrosion on them after removing a tire from them which indicates a poor alloy mix[as in less aluminum and more steel]
One front wheel was out of round from new! I guess when they sell reproductions for $850 a set and dealer is making money you can't expect much I have VOSSEN now and happy!

jpuli28 03-13-2012 08:08 PM

So much for persuasion...

"Hi John,

It is a huge expense to engineer a wheel, make a mold and carry inventory. The 19x11 is our least popular size. I understand that “quite a few” members might be disappointed. My problem is that historically “quite a few” translates into not enough sales. We currently sell two 19x11 wheels for every hundred 19x10’s. Our current focus is the 6 wheels that will cover stock replacement sizes for C5 and C6 base models as well as Grand Sport, Z06 and ZR1.

We may reconsider this size in the future .

Thanks
