The dreaded 10,000 mile mark.

Had my car out for a trip to the local ice cream store, tonight. The odometer just rolled over to 9,700 miles on the way there. In a few weeks my 1995 will hit 10,000 miles. What to do?

DinoBob 05-06-2013 09:21 PM

Roll it back.

JackDidley 05-06-2013 09:31 PM

Its completely worn out. Only good for salvage after 10k. I'll give you $500 for it. You know, its parts car now.:lol:

Just keep telling yourself its never been in the rain and all will be good..

:smash:

mcm95403 05-06-2013 10:15 PM

Only 10K - the rings aren't even seated properly yet. Put some MILES on that poor thing

1993C4LT1 05-06-2013 10:22 PM

Drive it!:D

LOL, not to hi jack but I love the ads that say "adult owned" "never seen snow or rain, never been raced" what that says to me is, you never enjoyed the car the way it was meant to be, driven.

Mine has definitely been rained on, definitely been raced, and it got its baptism of snow 2 weeks ago, none layed but it fell from the sky, all while being "adult owned." I wouldn't change a minute of it. :D

That being said, if low mileage, super clean, NCRS winning Corvettes are your thing by all means, enjoy.

Push the ENG/MET button and you will be on the way to the hospital with a heart attack in no time!:leaving:

TestDriver 05-06-2013 11:10 PM

Hate getting higher miles.

Joe C 05-07-2013 12:04 AM

who are you saving it for?

my theory on this low mileage stuff. i could be dead tomorrow - hit by a frickin' bus or something. now, the old lady would probably remarry, and then there would be some dude, sitting in my lazy-boy, drinking my beer, watching my big screen, and pattin' my old lady on the a$$. now i can deal with the lazy-boy, the big screen, the beer, and even the old lady butt, but i'll be damned if i'm turning over the keys to a low mileage vette. if the dude gets it, it's going to be worn out, needing everything!!!:lol::lol:

Aaron Keating 05-07-2013 12:07 AM

You need to put some more miles on her, and then drop the hammer on the loud pedal!

It even says so in the owners manual!

fc_soldier 05-07-2013 01:12 AM

put it on cylinder blocks and put in reverse and let it run in gear. It worked of ferris, I believe lol

Frizlefrak 05-07-2013 02:30 AM

I love these low mile cars. Someone else buys them, lets them depreciate, but keeps them pristine and keeps the miles low. Then, I come along, buy them at bargain basement prices, and run the piss out of them. Rinse, repeat. :)

I get to enjoy the cars best days, someone else pays for it. :yesnod:

lkl2005 05-07-2013 03:31 AM

Just turned 20 K on my 86.
Honey, do we need anything? I'll be back in a little while....

My 88 Vette just rolled over 101000 yesterday. They are made to be driven, no regrets on mileage as long as you always do the maintenance and you are the one putting the miles on.

Got my TownCars 150000 rollover on camera!

:iagree: If buying a car, parking it in the garage and staring at it is your thing, by all means have fun, but I like to drive mine. I can't even do car shows any more, i tried it a couple of times, but all I keep thinking of is how much fun it is driving it and after about an hour sitting beside the car i've had enough and i'm ready to hit the road again.

dukeallen 05-07-2013 07:51 AM

I'm worked up that mine is about to hit 50k. But I love driving it to much to stop. Get out and put some miles on!

LTFORC4 05-07-2013 07:57 AM

What a great problem to have------some of these folks have been a bit rough on you because they're seeing everything in black and white. Sounds like you've probably had the car for some time and I get what you're saying. Maybe think of it this way. My '96 just turned 30,000--and ya I wasn't thrilled when it rolled over but like most have told you--it's meant to be driven----so----set your bar at the next watermark---maybe 15,000? Moreover--if you go to sell a '95 with 10,000 or 15,000---IMO it won't make one bit of difference as long as you have maintenance records and it shows that it has been well taken care of. Finally--I'd crack a bottle of your favorite beverage and celebrate the milestone---Enjoy!!!!

vittal 05-07-2013 08:08 AM

Caught this in my Cirrus on the 31th of Dec. 2012. :D

And the purpose of keeping low miles on the car??? Why spend so much money on something and then not appreciate it?

tbirdsps 05-07-2013 08:50 AM

10,000 miles? Pshaw! That's no fun. I bought mine with 99,980 miles so I got to watch mine roll to 100,000. Burn more gas man! You have many more miles of fun ahead. Pedal to the fiberglass, let her rip on the twisties and get that mileage up. :)

FASTAZU 05-07-2013 09:33 AM

Never owned a Corvette I did not want to drive Take a pic of it if you want to keep it the low mile part than go enjoy it. I call mine rolling inheritance because it will keep on rolling until someone else gets it.

Bought my ZR-1 in 02 with 10K at a very good price Thank You previous owner now has 53k miles of smiles.

Larry/car 05-07-2013 10:35 AM

Interesting replies. That was fun! First; it is not my only Corvette. Second; it is a convertible and usually is driven with the top down. Third; purchased it four years ago with 6,000 miles, the first owner took the depreciation. It has been rained on since I have owned it, my cars don't hide from the rain. Well I guess it is worn out as someone said, but still looks like new. Darn my C6 is shot - has more miles than the C4. Really confused???

Frizlefrak 05-07-2013 10:36 AM

Having a hot car you don't drive is like having a hot wife you don't bang. Eventually.....someone else will.

Aaron Keating 05-07-2013 11:20 AM

His car has almost 1/14th the miles mine does. :D

:iagree: LOL Now the rest of the story, ya once you put that way my C5 has 160k miles.

LoneStarV 05-07-2013 11:59 AM

HUH? Drive the living daylights out of it. Enjoy it. That's what it's for. I can NOT for the life of me understand why owners try to limit the miles on the their vette. It's a CAR. A CORVETTE. A sports car. Not a damned doily sitting on your end table.

Keystring 05-07-2013 04:36 PM

I bought my 87 2 years ago,with 216,000 miles, looking like this.

http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e3...e/100_0578.jpg

Now it's got 238,000 miles and looks like this..

http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e3...idestripe1.jpg

Which just goes to show you that , the more you drive 'em, the better they look.

PS.. I fixed the house too.... don't know how many miles it has though.. :D

I'll help you out. I think what everyone here is trying to say is.....DRIVE IT!

Frizlefrak 05-07-2013 05:40 PM

Low mile cars do have their share of problems....but at least you're not battling everything on the car being worn out. Usually when you buy a low mile car you're in for a few months of sorting the minor issues, and then the car is relatively trouble free for quite a while. BTDT many times.....

Larry/car 05-07-2013 05:45 PM

Actually it is my extra Corvette, I stumbled into it, like new with less than 6,000 miles! I can only drive one at a time. My C6 coupe does the duty and the C4 is my summer evening, hot weather, top down run about. It is amazing how well the C4 handles and with the high performance rearend, acceleration isn't to shabby.

 This car has performed flawlessly, just like new. The dealer installed a new Delco battery when I took delivery. I have accomplished oil changes, polished, waxed, scrubbed and water proofed the convertible top. That's it.

My 93 rolled over to 176K on the way to work today. Drive these suckers. Believe me if you've tried to get GM parts for them lately you will know they are on an obsolescence curve until they become resto candidates and the aftermarket chimes in.

Until then, 200K here I come!!!!

I hate to tell you, BUT your car was made to drive, sitting in garage all you are doing is drying out all your seals, and tires.
