Bloomington Gold Registration Cost
 

I just registered for Bloomington Gold and was surprised at the $600 cost. Is this in line with past years and do you think this is a little steep? I did it but just wanted a reality check. Thanks. Bill

It's easy to check. Just Google BG registration.
You'll see previous years' forms.
Fot instance Gold Certification for 53-72 was $575, 73 to present $450, in 2012.
The price depends on what you registered for.

I did the SURVIVOR Certification with my 68 in 2009. Well worth the experience. It was one of those Bucket List items.

Bloomington Gold is a 'For Profit Organization' whereas NCRS is not.
A lot of money to get your car judged...

The previous owner of my car had it judged for survivor status in '91. I have the cancelled check. It was $125 back then. Kind of a neat deal. Just wish it still looked like a survivor!

It cost me $221.00 to Join NCRS (had to join both National and Regional) and to register my 1973 LS4 Convertible for Flight Judging. Not to mention driving to Kissimmee, FL ( 200 miles) and back at 12 MPG!

...I was "contemplating" on going in 2014 for the last few years. Still have my Orange '74 coupe that got Survivor in '94(first year '74s could get judged)and again in '04. Kinda thought it'd be cool to have done it 3x over a 20yr period, same owner, same car. You're supposed to "be there" Thursday to register, display & do Road Tour on Friday, Saturday I guess is a "do whatever" day-not sure what you're supposed to do with the car for Sat. Survivor judging on Sunday. With those four days for the show, plus one travel day BEFORE & AFTER the show turns it into a 6 Day Event!!!:ack: The two other times I did it I got there Thurs evening, Road Tour & display Friday, judged Saturday, headed & got home very late Sat night-not bad. 3 Day Event for me.:thumbs: It was also only $165 the first time, I believe $215 in '04.

now it's $500!!!!:crazy::crazy: As much as I really wanted to do it this year and there is a small remote chance I still might but highly doubt it, six days and $500 registration most likely will not happen for me. It'd probably end up being $1700 over six days and I have better ways now to enjoy that money.

I am trying to figure things out now to see if I can do bloomington. I am already registered for NCRS nationals which is like 10 days later. I already need to find a way to get my car from Miami to Kansas, which is only 500 miles away from Champlain. If I can somehow pull off convincing the wife that it's a better idea to do both Bloomington and Duntov judging I will do it.

Paul, Sorry to hear this! We spoke of this not too long ago, I remember how excited you were about your third Survivor!But, I agree there are "better" ways to spent it!

Not that this really relates but I thought I would compare the price of a gallon of gas to your 94,04,14 dates. In 1994 a gallon of gas average was 1.11, in 2004 it was up to 2.01, and now the average is 3.69. Quite a difference huh?

Some really enjoy Bloomington, but I wish I had the chance to go to the early shows...........

A minor correction. Joining NCRS costs only dues for a year. Your $221 costs stem from events judging.

Mike, you did not read the rest of my post... In order to have my car Flight Judged ( and ultimately get Second Flight ribbon) I had to join both National and Regional NCRS and pay for the Flight Judging.. the total hit was $221. Was it worth it to me? Yes, it was a very informative and fun experience.. I gave copies of my judging sheets to my mechanic and we will endeavor to get Top Flight next time.

I believe Mike did finish reading your post.......... This is steering the thread sideways but........to join the NCRS National it only cost one year membership or 35.00. No need to join a chapter if you choose not to. The additional related cost you mention were for "Judging" just as Mike states.:thumbs:

There is no regional or national NCRS - it's one organization. There ARE regional and national NCRS events. Having a car flight judged at a regional or national event requires paying the event fees.

While we're nit-picking, it cost only $75 to have the car judged at Kissimmee. It's not quite fair to add annual membership fees etc. to imply that judging costs $221.

There again, if the only reason a person joins is to get a ribbon, that's a waste in itself.

There is no obligation to join a chapter to have a car judged.

Mike, when you register for NCRS Regional flight judging:

Charges are
1. $80.00 registration (I was late to register, so $80 instead of $75)
2. $75.00 Flight Judging
3. $56.00 Awards Banquet
4. $35.00 NCRS National membership
5. $10.00 NCRS FL regional membership

Grand Total = $256

Yes, I'm aware of how you 'spun' the high costs. Still misleading.

A person that's already an NCRS member and didn't just join to get a one-shot judging award and would have attended the meet whether having a car judged or not, like the majority of attendees, would only pay the $75 extra for judging. Adding in the cost of your dinner ($56) is a bit of a stretch.

Before you say I'm nit picking, I have to mention a guy I spoke to at the Workshops at a BG show in the early 80's who said he was late because he flew in to Bloomington, Indiana instead of Illinois... :willy:

I've been to every BG since 1981. Those were great shows back then, but one problem with some people who have been to the old shows at the McLean County fairgrounds in Bloomington or the ones in Springfield is that many have trouble "letting go" of those memories and constantly complain about current shows in comparison. As I always say, "it ain't 1985 anymore" and the Corvette World is different now.

I think they did a pretty good job in the move to Champaign and Im looking forward to more improvement this year. :thumbs:

Mike maybe this is just your personality, but where did this exchange start to "go negative"? If you read my posts in this thread, I never said I was a "one shot" member.. In fact, I alluded to a future when I could upgrade my car to Top Flight by using the judging sheets to make the required changes. The thread was a discussion of costs to attend these events. Yes I am a new member ( and a new Corvette owner ) but no need to accuse me of "one shotizm" so early in my ownership. The chip on the shoulder seems to be yours!

Just trying to keep the 'facts' straight. Glad you're not a one shot wonder like so many others. Such owners are of little benefit to the organization (actually a drain) and to the hobby in general.

Guess you could amortize your costs across future meets. :D

We went to Bloomington for the show several times and we loved the flea market areas but we haven't been to one since they left Bloomington. That was a big deal for some of us back then. Maybe we'll take a trip to Champaign for the next one. Do they still have the flea market combined with the show?

Yes, there is still a swap meet section, without fleas.:lol: But, that is one of the things about the older shows that I missed. I've heard years ago you could just about any part at reasonable prices!

What's the news about the degrading of the Survivor Award I've heard? Someone can now earn a silver or bronze Survivor???:yesnod: $$$ I need more info?

:iagree: No matter what they do, some people will always have something to complain about. I've been going since 1985 and while the old shows were great, I still enjoy and look forward to going to Bloomington Gold.
