How do you drive your vette?

I think everyone see there vette differently, some baby it an some drive it like they stole it. some drive it like its an egg that could crack at any time. an some drive it like the true performance car it is.
so how do u drive your vette?

TerryL 11-05-2014 07:49 PM

My 06 vert is (the) uber sports touring machine and I drive it accordingly. I get a lot of use out of my V1....

ATC399 11-05-2014 07:50 PM

Hmmmn...Day time when I can see whats around me...like I stole it...after sunset like the old man I am in the right lane...

jblack41510 11-05-2014 07:54 PM

Mine is an everyday driver, so I just cruise for the most part. Whenever im in the mood for some fun.... ill have some fun, if safe conditions

Larry/car 11-05-2014 08:16 PM

Normally! Occasionally I push the envelope a little.

Racingswh 11-05-2014 08:36 PM

40-45 mph max to and from the gas station eyes peeled for deer and potholes. Otherwise as often and as early as I can go WOT lap after lap.

franman69 11-05-2014 08:41 PM

On the Street.. aggressive.. On the Track.. WOT, Like a MAD MAN. Threshold Brake and then DO IT AGAIN!!.. just trying to keep the sticky side down and the color the same as when I started...

I ENJOY my car!!.. Drive it when I can and when it's appropriate (I'll take long work-related road trips, and I won't drive into NYC with it). Always try and enjoy it though!...doesn't mean I'm always over the speed limit. just means I'm enjoying whether it's a spirited cruise, a track day, or a sight seeing tour!..

Just make sure you drive them as much as possible guys!!

Old Boot 11-05-2014 09:43 PM

Mostly I drive it forwards but every now and then I back up a little!!!

genair 11-05-2014 09:48 PM

On the street as fast and aggressive as is safe to do so - on the track as fast I can and still feel like I am mostly in control - but always try to stay within the limits of the car - can't afford to wad it up!!!!

RDG5500 11-05-2014 09:56 PM

Five over the limited.........unless every one is driving faster :D

lordofwar 11-05-2014 09:57 PM

third set of tires at 10k miles.

m kraz 11-05-2014 10:01 PM

the 93vette I beat the hell out of it
but the 2012 gs vert just go's to
vette show's :D

C6 Snowboarder 11-05-2014 10:05 PM

I have the NPP option on my 2013 GS M6 -- I drive it just to hear it open up.. :woohoo:

carjo 11-05-2014 10:16 PM

Not slowly!

1rusty1 11-05-2014 10:20 PM

About 5 over. Same as my DD. If I drive too fast, people don't get a chance to admire it.

Suds 11-05-2014 10:27 PM

I drive it hard.
I bought an '08 garage queen with 15k miles January 2nd 2014, I have now added 7k road miles including 9 PDX days for over 800 track miles, recently added a cam with FBO and tune.

Rky Mtn C6 11-05-2014 10:48 PM

With the utmost respect. :yesnod: :auto:

berk4422 11-05-2014 11:25 PM

Drove it hard enough today to get pulled over for... well I'm really not sure why he pulled me over:willy:
Something about a circular on-ramp and driving sideways. He wasn't really sure of the violation so after we laughed, we were both on our way.

79inSD 11-05-2014 11:26 PM

Leave my house with the baffles closed, then when I get a few blocks a away I open them up. Drive her to work every few weeks. Also about the same with taking a drive around the island I get a lot of looks (especially with all the European tourists). I live in Key West so ever once an a while I will find a long bridge with no one in front of me!

jnguyenn16 11-06-2014 03:12 AM

I drive the speed limit but at least once a week I visit one of the local windy roads

Ludedude 11-06-2014 04:20 AM

I always drive Flat Out. That's how I drive. Flat Out.

*ditchdigger* 11-06-2014 04:34 AM

I have had my GS for a little over 2 weeks. I have put 3000 miles on it! I love to see how fast I can get from stoplight to stoplight. This car is so much fun! I drive it like I stole it!

wayback 11-06-2014 06:53 AM

Mine is a daily driver so most of my miles are 5 mph faster than traffic.

When safe I like to romp on it, so much fun. I really enjoy my vette as a DD.

Don-Vette 11-06-2014 06:55 AM

Let's just say when I'm at a stop light, I'm always the first one out the gate in the Vette or the Caddy. Lol

davidtcpa 11-06-2014 06:59 AM

My kids will tell you I drive like an old man.

I drive reasonably and safely in traffic. If I am at the head of the line at a light I do get up to the speed limit faster than anybody else!! On the interstate I usually drive 5 - 7 over. I did do 120 on I-80 back in September. I do like to carve corners. We did the Tail of the Dragon in October. Bought the car new in January and in less than a year we have over 12,000 miles on it.

Vettereturned 11-06-2014 08:12 AM

I drive my '70 like a bad azz race car driver, pulling second gear mashing on the gas. I drive my '10 GS like a Wimp...because I'm not a race car driver and I would only hurt myself.

:iagree:

It surprises me how slow everything else is on the road. When I'm stuck in traffic I can easily keep up with everyone in the C6 keeping the RPMs under 2000rpms.

I never exceed the speed limit...:leaving:

abc8cub 11-06-2014 08:19 AM

Still getting used to what this wonderful motor can do after trading in my 10 year old Miata. Passing a truck on a rural road yesterday just couldn't make my foot back off that gas pedal and once in the clear glanced at the speedo and couldn't believe it was at 120. What a rush!

I get on it a little bit on the interstate, but hardly any on the 55 MPH roads between adjacent towns or in town.

It is an A6 and I do use the paddles a little around town.

Granitehead53 11-06-2014 09:11 AM

Mine is a DD and I very rarely exceed the speed limit. Have had it over 100 once :leaving: I just enjoy the ride and the fun of driving it every day

EVILFACE 11-06-2014 09:17 AM

Drive it like it was built for.

Seems a waste to granny drive or garage queen it.

PittMD1 11-06-2014 09:25 AM

Normal 5 - 10 over the limit.

I have grown tired of hearing my wife scream in terror and getting punched in the arm. As if that wasn't enough not getting laid for a couple of weeks.

JakeC6Racing 11-06-2014 09:33 AM

I drive it sitting down

piper_chuck 11-06-2014 09:41 AM

Normally no more than 5-10 mph over the speed limit. Occasionally take off faster at a light, on an on ramp, etc. Fastest I've had it is a little over 80 on the interstate and once when passing someone on a back road. Recently I've changed the HUD to the screen that shows the g force so I can see how had I'm cornering. The highest I've seen so far is .54.

Old Boot 11-06-2014 09:52 AM

Funny story but sorely true. Im a nut bar I think behind the wheel but I try to be a safe nut bar. I was driving home in the dark a couple weeks ago (live in SC) there was a slow car on I 85 in the left lane at a 3 lane area (Greenville not a good place to speed)So i get right on this guys bumper in 3rd gear and rev it to let him know I was noticing how he was driving in the passing lane. Well about the time he moved over (and the blue lights came on )I hit the breaks real fast and pulled off the road to the right, as I had open lanes beside me. NOTE no Gov plates on this undercover guy LOL. Well we spoke for a bit and he said he saw me comming and moved to that lane on purpose. He also explained that no radar as he was feeling kind ( I have a detector but if he never turns it on it dont help) Long and short of it I got a following too close ticket LOL.
No bull all true ,I chuckled the rest of the way home.
So Piper chuck needs to come drive with me and get some of those numbers up!! im pretty sure I have in the past seen170/0.9 (not at the same time)

wrh3 11-06-2014 10:38 AM

I drive it like any other car I have ever owned- like it was meant to be. I keep it clean and maintained and ALWAYS let the oil temp come up before driving it hard.....it gets me to the airport and home during the week, sees some aggressive mountain drives on the weekends, and once I have a rollbar installed may even see some track time.

lebvette 11-06-2014 11:38 AM

A Z with a cam. Can't really do anything on the street without attracting a lot of attention. Too fast too quick...gets a little dangerous.

For the guys posting the video's.....sounds great! I'm going to have to do that.

Bill Dearborn 11-06-2014 12:12 PM

On the streets and highways I get the car into the higher gears as soon as possible. I shift from 1 to 2 somewhere between 10 and 14 mph, 2 to 3 before 20 and into 4th before 30. Into 5th around 35 and into 6th around 46. Car has plenty of pep when running in traffic, I get pretty reasonable gas mileage and the car makes a nice cruiser.

On the track I am in 3rd or 4th gear (sometimes 2nd) all the way to 6500 rpm or higher. There is no point in shifting to 5th on medium long straights since the big ratio gap between 4th and 5th slows acceleration to 160 (rev limited speed in 4th) especially if you are going to nail the brakes a split second later.

On Interstates where you have the long lines of idiots that hog the left lane it makes for a great car to pull to the right and blast by in 6th gear. I can pass 5 or 6 cars and pull back into the left lane between two cars before they know I am there. That stops them from trying to close the space. I can't do that with my 4 cylinder Malibu. It doesn't accelerate fast enough to get to the open spot before being seen.

Bill

Boomer111 11-06-2014 12:22 PM

Enough to have fun.

With me the car always looking good and crusing is enough.

The MN6 with 4:10 differential adds to the fun.

Nosferatu 11-06-2014 12:50 PM

oh I might add...thank goodness for NPP. Car is so loud with the supercharger usually whenever I get on it I'll typically get a K or Ka band pop up on the radar. It's as if a cop somewhere in the distance goes...hey I hear something loud let's see what pops up

Closing the valves to muffle the exhaust and car is pretty quiet from the back. From the sides and front it just sounds like a loud woosh of air. Helps keep the popo's out of sight. :willy:

Seems my driving style has become much more 'spirited' and 'fun' this week as my GYs' are worn to the wear marks and have a scheduled appointment next week to install my Bridgestones.

I'm waiting for this to happen with my car. One of my co-workers wanted me to smoke the tires in the parking lot right after I had bought it. I told him I was waiting until it was time to buy new tires.

rmarks 11-06-2014 04:37 PM

Around town, I start slow, usually a 1-3 shift. Then from 25mph, to 50 I rev it a little. Unless there is some interesting car near me.

On interstate, I usually goose it a bit. But final speed is 14 over.

But, the other day, big traffic tie up on the 15. Got to accident spot and there were a ton of cop cars all flashing letting one car at a time through. After this is was up and over a hill. They couldn't see me. I figure all the Smokies were at the accident so I got a good 130mp cruise for a few miles on an almost empty road till the next entrance.

su8pack1 11-06-2014 04:43 PM

I drive it to enjoy it.

Mr.Nubain 11-06-2014 04:46 PM

I drive the speed limit most of the time. Some times a little faster depending on the environment. I had a little fun this past weekend. Now it's away for the winter. I do baby the car because it's special to me. I never thought I'd own another one, so I respect it like it would be my last one.

raspyc6 11-06-2014 05:15 PM

It depends. Most of the time I am relaxed and laid back as mine is a DD. When and if an opportunity presents itself to purge the devil I usually do so.

I love the car. Probably my last Corvette, but at age 69, who knows. I drive it with respect, I do not beat it, but have been know to get it up to 90-100 once a year at a Corvette rally where everyone caravans for 20 miles to the venue. But that is the only time. I will not track it. I look forward to the days that the weather is clear, no rain, etc, so I can drive it.

I love your car. Can I make a suggestion to get a better license plate holder. I have one that has a bracket in the grille and the license plate is on the male part which I can plug in and show the plate and when I do not want the plate on the car, I pull it out and keep it in the car.mi am In NJ and it requires Two plates but I never put it on the front. This car was made with no license plate brackets, so no plate on mine. Have not got stopped in 4 years. I have a C-6.

JoesC5 11-07-2014 08:56 AM

Depends on the situation. Normal driving and I drive it no different than my Mercedes 4 door sedan(most of the time). When I'm in the twisties, I like to push it towards it limits(occasionally). When I'm in Mexico, I like to ring it out(very seldom).

Wetrudgeon 11-07-2014 09:53 AM

Most of the time we drive the car as we do other less extraordinary cars. Reasoning here is that a torch red GS convertible is somewhat of a cop magnet and we don't care for citations. We occasionally do a bit of spirited acceleration especially when hitting the interstate on ramp. When asked, this car will get up to highway speed right now...

We trudge on.

SmileyOr 11-07-2014 10:23 AM

Mine is a daily driver so I take the time to relax in it most days. But every once in a while I get out of town onto the twisties and challenge the grip within the legal limits. Not in top speed or acceleration, but in cornering and only when I'm alone on the road.

RichKiss 11-07-2014 11:17 AM

As fast as I can to the speed limit. : )

Toxicscream 11-07-2014 12:06 PM

Used to drive it like I stole it but after breaking a transmission, a right side differential cover and then a torque tube, I have slowed a bit. Also I don't use the nitrous as much...it gets expensive, never mind burning through rear tires fast.
I am just trying to keep her together since its my DD. But if you press me... well, I guess that's why they put rev limiters on these.

SSWEET 11-07-2014 12:43 PM

Drive it normally on the street. But I have access to Colorado twisty roads whenever I want........

ok the main reason i asked this question was a buddy of mine bought a new camaro zl1 sweet ride made for the track but i dont think hes ever had it over 55 mph. his biggest concern is not wanting to mess anything up to keep its resale value. so u really cant enjoy your car because your worried about its worth when your done with it? that just seem silly to me . when things break fix them, it will still be like new. right?

Ask him how the guys on the line wanted the car to be driven.
They built it with pride to be driven like the performance car it is.
If something breaks - fix it & drive on.

I doubt there has ever been one time where my car got up to operating temperature (150* oil temp by my reckoning) and I didn't go WOT through a couple of gears at least once, I'm always looking for opportunities to do that and have mapped out a bunch of places in my regular travels where I can pull it off with minimal chance of getting busted.

Patman 11-08-2014 02:06 AM

Because Ontario has very strict "street racing" laws now, it has severely curbed the way I drive my Corvettes over the past ten years or so. I used to go full throttle on a daily basis, but now it doesn't happen that often at all. If they catch you doing 50km/h over the limit they can impound your car for a week, suspend your license for a week and fine you $10,000! No thanks. So I drive like a grandpa most of the time now :( On the plus side, I save a ton of money on fuel, as I end up averaging 25 MPG in my C6 in mixed driving.

Similar laws here. Be stealthy, brief, and safe. Pick your spots wisely, if in doubt do a recon run, and never go against another car, unless you like jail. Kinda like the local crackheads, I've figured out how to get my fix and stay under the radar, it can be done. It only takes a few seconds to have some fun. So far so good, knock on wood.

I still get my full throttle fix once in a while, just like you say, I pick my spots carefully and make sure it's only for a few seconds at a time. But it's certainly not like the good old days when I could safely go full throttle many times per day and not worry about huge fines.

I hear you, and the LEO's are pretty stealthy themselves. On multiple occasions I've seen a dark grey F150 crew cab "ghost car" that nabs a lot of folks around here, like shooting fish in a barrel.

Even cooler! Some fun for a good cause. Hope you had a great time!

RAGGDOLL 11-08-2014 08:20 PM

I drive in a brisk, yet self assured manner. Not drawing attention to myself, pulling away from lights normally, always signalling, driving in and out of traffic in a confident way.

Other drivers just looking at my car usually commands respect, so no need to hot dog it. Most can tell it's a pretty bad ass car :smash:

I did add the "+"

That was on the straight after the oak tree turn. Car traps 119 in the 1/4.

I’ve had 54 moving violations in my day and never one while behind the wheel of a Corvette (drivers training 3 times over, suspended DL 4 times). I was in the high-risk insurance pool for the second 16 years of my life. I played and paid.
It’s not that Vettes look as good going slow as they do going fast, but common sense seems to have taken hold of my right foot soos I’m not the blue light special anymore. I obey every traffic rule and when the coast is clear – WAAAAAAAAAAH - Gotta love it!

I'm 44 years old. I have had 5 camaros and a Shelby mustang and I have never been issued a moving violation. I'm not saying I never deserved one but just never been caught. I have been stopped a few times but was always let go.

actually .....close to speed limit ,,,,,,,it feels faster than the daily driver.....but on the bikes........@ least 20 over (interstate only).......& people stll tailgate!!!

jnguyenn16 06-12-2015 12:32 AM

Depends. If I'm out doing things like errands or on the freeway, I go the speed limit. If I'm out in the twisties I go fast.

bhoch 06-12-2015 06:50 AM

As it's my DD, most days during the week it's not too hard on the gas or brakes and keep the speeds to about 5 over the limit. I try to be not too aggressive in traffic as azzhats are everywhere. Although now and then there is a 3rd gear on-ramp need that just seems to happen. :woohoo: On the weekends if I can get out into the country where there is no traffic and some twisties, well, then it's a lot of fun.

Hey Joe 06-12-2015 07:46 AM

It's a DD so I just drive it and try to avoid the clowns while trying not to be one...

adidasUNT8 06-12-2015 08:59 AM

If I don't go WOT atleast once a trip... I feel the trip was a failed adventure.

drews60 06-12-2015 09:26 AM

Mine will log around 6,000 miles a year.

I drive it like any other car with one exception. If no one is in front of me and the road is clear when the light turns green :reddevil lookout!

dryadsdad 06-12-2015 09:53 AM

As the mood strikes me.

That was the famous Bullitt thing? Legendary? I guess so.

My DD too so I stay 10 over or so. Have aired it out to 130+ and want to do some track days. In traffic I try to keep "safety zone" around my car. Had someone looking so hard they started to "drift" toward me, that's when I said "goodbye"! On country roads it is on! My wife, on the other hand, thinks it is like a bike and pegs it! She is scary fast! Now she is calling it her car! BTW she hated the Porsche!

Boomer111 06-12-2015 12:19 PM

More on the egg side. Not a DD.

But I'd care for all my belongings the same way.

Still though being my first American car in 39 years I went into the ownership thing a bit more worried than with my Honda's and Toyota's I have owned.
