Bummed, I think I'm too big

I'm 6'3", 235 lbs. and think I'm too big for a C7. I've been driving Vettes for over 30 years and been fairly comfortable in all of them. Today a friend came by with his new C7 convertible. After driving it I realize it's the first vette I wasn't comfortable in. My question is what size of drivers are all of you??

When I ordered my car, I was 6 foot and 230 pounds. I dedicated myself to lose weight so I could fit in the car better. I am now 200 pounds. I find the fit fine, but understand if I was taller it would be difficult. The car May be a problem for people much taller than me.

Owning a C7 is a great reason for losing weight. I applaud your effort and am inspired by it.

C7Joy 12-02-2014 07:04 AM

Seat bolstering makes them tighter than the C6 seats I have found. But at 6'2" and around 200 I am still comfortable.

ParishM 12-02-2014 07:09 AM

i'm in the same spot, even worse being 6'0 and 345lbs

is it possible to use C6 seats or custom made seats with less bolsters
to gain more room and comfort ?

Ernest_T 12-02-2014 07:14 AM

I'm 5'11" and right at 200 lbs so I'm not really tall or big, but I have a long torso. I don't put the seat back real far and my head comes very close to the top of the car. I can see how taller and wider people would have a hard time with the C7.

Mr Guns 12-02-2014 07:47 AM

I'm 6'0, and just reached my highest weight at 223lbs. Shooting for 230lbs by the end of winter. I don't feel the car is too tight for me or uncomfortable at this point.

CanadianVetster 12-02-2014 07:47 AM

I guess it depends on your body shape.
I.E. Long leg, waist, etc...
I am 6'4" 230
Long in the leg, personally I did not have an issue.
Closer feel then my 07 Z06, but not cramped by any means.

But dropping a few pounds is generally recommended for most men over 40 anyway.
So if the C7 can contribute to men's health then even better.
Some may also be able to leverage that with their wives as a good reason to get one.:woohoo::hide::woohoo::woohoo:

macdaddy548 12-02-2014 07:47 AM

There are several references in different threads outlining the process of adjusting the seat to accommodate "larger Americans". :D It seems like guys even bigger than you have found they fit when these steps are taken.
Personally, I'm 6'2" and "260ish". I fit fine, but not much extra space available. Hence, driving the car comfortably by losing a few (OK, more than a few) pounds has also become my goal - as referenced above.
:woohoo:

lsp408 12-02-2014 07:54 AM

I am 5'11" and pushing over 290. The first day was a little uncomfortable then I got used to it.

I do have issue seeing the traffic light if I am the first in line

rothchilds 12-02-2014 08:24 AM

I'm 6'1" and 230. Longer torso, 32" inseam. Car is a little more snug then the C6 because the seats are more supportive. The thigh bolsters are way beefier. I get the transparent tops, cause the extra 1" or so of head room make a difference for me, and I don't feel quite so claustrophobic. It just feels a little more enclosed, but I think its that the car is designed more driver centric.

mjw930 12-02-2014 08:24 AM

I'm 5'9" and right around 220 and I fit fine. Of course I've been driving sports cars all my life, mostly Porsches as well as race cars so I'm used to how my body fits in a sport seat. Sure, I'm snug but it's a feeling I'm familiar with since I've been this size for the better part of 30 years.

If your point of reference is a previous Corvette then yes, the C7 will feel tight. I wouldn't trade the quality and support of the new seats for anything and in fact, the old seats and interior were major reasons I never got excited about previous Corvettes.

mksz51 12-02-2014 08:48 AM

6'2". 185 pounds. Avid cyclist; 10,000 miles a year. I fit just fine when I'm not out on the bike.

TKay 12-02-2014 09:23 AM

I'm a tad over 6' and am 245. When looking for a C7, I sat in a bunch where other people had sat before me. These other people played with the seat buttons. I never felt comfortable. One day I was at my local dealer when he asked if I was interested in a black C7 which just came in. NO ONE had sat in it yet, I was the first. Surprisingly I felt very comfortable. I ordered one that day.Now that I have my own and have the seat just where I want it, I am happy. True if I lost a few pounds it would help, but its not a problem as I am.

funz06 12-02-2014 09:45 AM

6' 4" and around 210 today (could be 220 after a good weekend)---not huge in the shoulders. but I do exercise and lift regularly, so I am not small there either. I have driven four C7's. Fit was OK without going crazy with the seat adjustments---not as roomy as my C6, BUT.......and this is a big but..........my friend with a C7 and myself spent a good 15-20 minutes measuring the inside of his C7 and my C6 from all different angles and ways (different parts of the doors to different parts of the console; took into account the emergency brake differences; etc., etc.). Bottom line----all the measurements in both cars were virtually the same (could have been off a 1/4 inch here or there as we are into our 60's and contorting our bodies to get a measurement was not part of the plan). We concluded that (1) the seats, by design, are tighter in a very good way---they hold you in place while driving around turns and bends, etc., versus having to hang onto the steering wheel for dear life, and (2) the interior of the C7 still seemed smaller to both of us----we are guessing it might be an optical illusion with all the gauges, their lights; the look of the console; and the stupid grab bar on the passenger side.

BigJoe 12-02-2014 09:47 AM

6'4" 255 and I am comfortable once in the car. Getting in and out is a challenge because my old joints aren't as limber as they were. I have the seat all the way down and back and have plenty of head room (enough to wear a helmet if I want.) but my knees are only an inch from the dash. Where it is tight is from door to console... The C7 door is thicker than the C6's door and intrudes on the knee space a lot more.
But what is really lacking IMO is the amount of seat back recline when the seat is all the way back. I feel like I am driving a NASCAR car with the steering wheel too close to my chest for comfort. I'd prefer a more "laid back" posture but that is not possible unless I give up leg room.

DAC17 12-02-2014 10:03 AM

6'3", 190. I'm a runner and biker, so fairly slim build, but do have a 34" inseam length. I fit, but it's not quite as comfortable as other cars we have. But worth the tight fit!

Bill17601 12-02-2014 10:11 AM

A good friend of mine is 6'4" he rides with me and doesn't seem to have a problem.. I have the stock seats not the comp seats. A difference for sure.

I'm 6'2" and the fact of the matter is the interior of the C7 is too tight for me. I like the C7 but I'm not spending that kind of money on a car I'm not comfortable in. I'll keep my C5 vert and be happy.

GSIRM3 12-02-2014 10:54 AM

I am 6'1", 200 lbs and the C7 is too small for me. I can fit, but it is too tight. As others have said, the seats are too narrow. I end up sitting on the side bolsters, and not quite enough leg room. I like the car, but couldn't pull the trigger for those reasons.

Bill17601 12-02-2014 10:57 AM

Wow your thin. Seriously. I mean I have seen people much larger then you, not taller, larger fit in the seats without touching the side bolsters. Sorry but in my opinion I am not buying that.

rramjet 12-02-2014 11:02 AM

I'm 6'3" 245 and fit fine in my coupe once I'm in.

I sat in a 2015 with the Competition seats the other day and I'm glad I didn't order them. Much tighter feeling in the shoulder area which I'm sure is intentional but think they would uncomfortable for any length of time.

Here is that thread: Adjusting seats for maximum leg/head room and it can be found in the DIY, FAQ's and TIPS sticky thread.

HighTeq 12-02-2014 11:06 AM

6'5" 290lbs with Comp seats. My head hits the back cross bar not the cushion of the seat. Other than that it fits like a glove.

Knobbie 12-02-2014 11:35 AM

6'3" 210.

Fits me like a glove with about 2 inches headroom and slightly forward from full recline. Its all in the right seat position and how you get the seat into that position I think. I'm going to do a roadtrip to Big Bend this month so I'll let you know about comfort on long trips.

silky1 12-02-2014 11:37 AM

I'm 6'4" 235 and I fit as good in my C7 as I did in my C6. Both are coupes so that may have something to do with it.

cfl70 12-02-2014 11:55 AM

6'5 265 here..i was ready to jump on a new vette. went to test drive
one.had a c6 before which was fine.i felt it was too snug and
my knees were on the steering wheel.:willy:

got a gtr instead.:D

jesus i want a new z so bad

garye 12-02-2014 12:47 PM

6’4” and 240 lbs here. I couldn’t test drive my C7 before I bought so I wasn’t aware of the “fit” of the seats. After putting on 6,000 miles decided being uncomfortable in the C7 wasn’t worth it, especially getting in and out. I traded the keys to my C7 for the keys of a 2013 C6 427 anniversary vette with 5,500 miles with no regrets.

Interesting.
For the big guys posting here who've found a way to fit into a C7, many/most claim there's friction w/ various body parts & interior panels. Wonder if repeated rubbing might result in excessive wear rather fast? :confused2: Unless panels are made using extremely durable materials, time'll tell rather quick.

garye 12-02-2014 02:32 PM

I think so, the only way I could get in was to slide down the outer bolster, I’m sure I would have worn it out in a year. The C7 was a great advancement for vettes, the technology was wonderful, once you figure it out, but they just were not made for bigger guys. Buying a 70 to 80,000.00 car and then say your getting used to the tight fit doesn’t make sense. Unless they change the seating issue for us bigger guys I may have my 13 427 for quite awhile, I’m so bummed…….NOT:rock::rock:

flaagan 12-02-2014 03:12 PM

6'4", ~240, I fit just fine. Heck, the third time I sat in a C7 was picking it up in Bowling Green before a 3,640 mile drive home. Over 10k on the car now, no complaints. I would say look into the 'sports' seats before buying. I didn't get a chance to try them out (and was recommended against it by another owner), but after sitting in the Z06 at Laguna Seca a few months back, the sports seats seem to be even more comfortable for us bigger guys than the regular seats are.

Bill B 1 12-02-2014 03:36 PM

I'm 6'4" 250 and I fit quite nicely. The seat base bolsters are a bit of a problem but an easy to do modification all but eliminated the problem for me. Just make sure you follow the seat adjustment procedure for maximum room. I have 15K miles with several long road trips under my belt with it now, just like touring on my Goldwing I make sure to get out and stretch every few hundred miles. 2 sets of golf clubs and gear for two for a week fit under the hatch. In short I love my C7 and have no complaints with comfort....after all it is a sports car not a luxury touring car!

stevebz06 12-02-2014 04:09 PM

This is just a suggestion, but one of my criticisms on the C7 is that the seats are really heavy. Like about 50% heavier than previous generations. To me, this might mean that they are bulkier as well. If the only thing keeping you from buying the car is the room, maybe an aftermarket seat would give you the room you need. Store the stock seats for reinstallation when you sell it. The new owner will wonder how you kept the seats so nice.

SCorvette08 12-02-2014 04:15 PM

5' 12" and a half and my girlfriend says im to big also

Fat Frenchie 12-02-2014 04:21 PM

I am 6'1" 320 lbs fit is tight but just fine with no issues shifting. Have done several long trips and was more comfortable than I am in my 2012 E350. I do work out a lot and most of my weight is above the waist. I can see if someone was little taller and carried thier weight below the waist the car would be uncomfortable.

320!! I dint think anybody that heavy could possibly fit in ANY vette.....guess I was wrong! :leaving:

C2367 12-02-2014 07:47 PM

Now I am glad that I am not big and tall 6' 175 and fit's me great.

Woody 12-02-2014 07:50 PM

I'm 6'3" and not skinny... The C7 is snugger than the C6, but after unplugging the seat sensor behind the seat back and making several seat adjustments it's comfortable, even with the top up.

everjeff 12-02-2014 07:50 PM

Agree with all of the snug comments. I am 6'0. I had a C6 before going to the C7. I did not do a test drive till I drove from the dealer and the first thing I said was wow I am glad I am not much taller. From looking at the seat backs the way they are designed they don't seem to be able to move back like they did in the C6, I could be imagining things though!

ksmithwick 12-02-2014 09:16 PM

I haven't sat in a C7 yet. But I will before I order next spring. I'm 6'7" around 330 and I fit fine in my C6. I do have the transparent roof for and extra inch or so of headroom.

Patman 12-02-2014 09:24 PM

Do I win the shortest and lightest title? 5'8" and 160 here, I'll have no trouble whatsoever fitting in a C7 when I get one :) It is sad to hear that tall people have trouble getting comfortable in the C7, I've heard quite a few of my fellow C6 owners tell me they wanted to trade up to a C7 but they are just too tall for it. GM dropped the ball on that one, by not thinking of taller drivers.

Woody 12-02-2014 09:37 PM

For you tall guys, here is my drivers seat with the rear sensor disconnected. The passenger seat has not been unplugged and its as far back as the sensor will allow.

oyealiz 12-02-2014 09:58 PM

Some friends visited us back in August. It was Cars and Coffee weekend and I wanted to take my c3, so he drove my c7 to the show (and everywhere we went all weekend.) No clue on his weight, but he's about 6' 6". He can clean the top of the fridge without standing on a stool.

He absolutely loved the car, and said he was very comfortable in it, top up and top down.

https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.cor...f63aeca3de.jpg

Maybe the "fix" Woody mentioned would allow you to fit better, gsport. Hope so! :)

Bucknut2006 12-02-2014 10:57 PM

Even at 5'10" 180lbs, I found the car to feel tighter than anticipated. Not that it's uncomfortable, but I could not imagine being a big guy and fitting comfortably.

gilbybarr 12-02-2014 11:21 PM

I in with the "too big" crowd. 6'4", 240. Not enough room to lean back and get comfortable for a road trip. C6, no problem.

Vetteman Jack 12-02-2014 11:26 PM

I'm 6', 225 lbs and I fit just fine in the C7s I've driven.

gsport 12-03-2014 02:51 AM

I guess I'm going to have to look into this again. I didn't play too much with the adjustments, other than putting it all the way back and as low as it would go..

Move the seat forward about half way
then go all the way down
now incline the back rest forward/vertical
then move the seat all the way back
finally recline the back as far as it will go
this will give you the maximum room available in the C7.

LOL! Not far off....when I ordered the car in June 2013 I was 275/278. The end of August 2013 I put myself on a better diet and more exercise anticipating the arrival of the Vette sometime that fall. I am now down to 245/248. My latest goal is 230 by February 2015. The new Vette helped fuel the desire I had to loose those pounds.....210 would be my ultimate goal but one step at a time!

With the glass roof, that is not a problem.

lottavettes 12-03-2014 08:01 PM

I have plenty of room at 6'1-230 but edges around the seat bother my legs. The seat seems to be built for the small butted.

onthebottom 12-04-2014 01:40 AM

I'm 6'2" and 235 - long in torso and I have no issue with head room. My ass fits, not much extra room, but it does fit. I swing 10 lbs over a couple of months, the lighter weight makes a big difference.

All that said my wife and I took the car to Bowling Green and Nashville over the 4th (6+ hours) and I was very comfortable the entire drive.

Seat adjustment is key, I'd go to a dealer and play with it....

Easy mod for this. Take the seat out and pull the cover off the seat base. Drill a lot of holes in the bolster foam on both sides, then reinstall. This retains the shape of the seat and softens the bolsters to a more comfortable feel. Worked great for me!

gsport 12-05-2014 02:26 AM

Would having the competition seats give me a little more room? In pictures they do look thinner.

At 6-2, 225 my C7 is tight but I'm still getting used to the seats and their adjustments. I also have an 09 Z06 and it feels much roomier to me as I move back and forth between the cars. Its not uncomfortable but just not as roomy. I did pick my car up in Mo and drove it back to Arizona, a distance of 1350 miles over a day and a half. Lots of driving in a short time!

:iagree:Apparently I am the biggest C7 driver out there - 6' and 325. I fit fine, and enjoy the ride everytime, but do agree that I have a bit of an issue with the traffic lights. I need to duck down a bit to see them when first in line.

thrilled 12-06-2014 12:20 PM

At 5'9" 170 lbs.Don't have trouble getting in and out but I would like it better if the seat
went back another inch or so.

"Fitting in" and sitting comfortably in a Vette are two completely different things. :yesnod:
