Cool wraps spotted thus far

Love them or hate them wraps are definitely the trend in the Corvette world. Which ones do you like and which do you hate. Feel free to add to the list.

So what do people who wrap their cars do about the inside of the frunk, door jams, and under the hood?
Seems like it would be super ugly to have those differences in color in those locations.

feeder82 05-01-2020 03:36 PM

A quality wrap will hit all those you mentioned, they strip off the trim and wrap those areas also

I have noticed many of them just leave the original color. This is why they often start with black cars if they plan to wrap.

theblackangus 05-01-2020 03:40 PM

Cool good to know. I haven't seen any pics yet of one that was wrapped with the doors or F/Trunk open.
One last question, (obviously Im thinking about doing this =) how do people handle damage to the wrap? In other words if my front gets damage how do they ensure the color matches on the fix?

Thanks sir!

ByRiver 05-01-2020 04:00 PM

Never cared for the mat appearance of a wrapped vehicle. That satin look does nothing for me, although I do see one that has a shiny sheen.

Spamburger_Hamburger 05-01-2020 05:29 PM

The silver one with the red mirrors looks incredible.

skegel1 05-01-2020 05:38 PM

I agree; that is probably my favorite too. Second favorite is the black with red stripes.

The appearance is solely based on the finish you choose. You're correct, though, that it does appear that most who get their vehicle wrapped choose matte or satin finishes. I have seen gloss wraps, however, where you would never know the vehicle was wrapped.

dvilin 05-01-2020 06:39 PM

First two would be my choice the silver one and the green one.

Steve Garrett 05-01-2020 07:29 PM

Wow, all of them look terrific!

Myfourth1 05-01-2020 07:45 PM

The silver one but with a different color interior like Morello Red.

RobbyZ 05-01-2020 07:48 PM

They all look great! Ive never wrapped a car. How much does a mid range cost? I know like anything there will be wide range depending on material and shop. But average for a decent wrap? 3-4K?

For a wrap or the paint job? Both vary widely. A wrap can be $2 - $5k. A paint job $3k - $20k. The guy painting his green owns the shop so hard to say.

the lark 05-01-2020 09:21 PM

Man that silver one is awesome. Wonder if the new silver for 21 is like that color.

JVi 05-01-2020 10:02 PM

That "sky blue" would look good with dark blue (Admiral Blue) accents.
It sure looks better than Rapid (Smurf) Blue.

RapidC84B 05-01-2020 11:11 PM

Proper gloss purple would look incredible.

Schiller7 05-01-2020 11:26 PM

I am not a big fan of wrapping your car but they do look sharp and unique. Acid green is my pick but the silver is real sharp looking. Hope that GM's new silver color for 2021 is like this. Thanks for sharing the photos of the cars.

SD27 05-01-2020 11:32 PM

I love the green paint job. I would buy that in a minute.
Please share when done.
Thanks

Yeah it does, I think maybe some orange accents. =) (With a Gulf sticker or two?)

JockItch 05-02-2020 03:57 PM

Silver/grey one looks incredible as many apparently agree. Not a fan of the red mirrors and I would have definitely wrapped the sides of the roof but besides that, stunning. The color is similar to the C8.R so I get what they were trying to do, just such a clean and striking spec there’s no need to try to make it look like a wannabe C8.R IMO.

I really like the matte purple and black one, I’d never own it but I think it looks really cool and complimentary on the C8.

here is a good example of a video showing great looking wrap..... right up to the point when they open the doors, then it's "Maaco" paint job look, white original jambs look like .... Yuck!
And I'm not slamming the wrapper or the customer, it's just not the look I would want to present at an event to pull up in this very cool looking vehicle and then open the doors and the first thing I would see are these GLOWING white Jambs.

If you are gonna do a wrap, buy a black car, or pony up the funds and have the jambs done as well, but the other cavet to remember, a wrap is nothing more than a giant decal, so it you damage a spot, there is no "blending" it back to pretty... you have to replace that whole area or live with a patch. I work in the graphics industry, have for the last 33 plus years, I sell and make wraps, but I would never do a personal use car without making sure that the person purchasing the wrap understands that the wrap is designed to be a "temporary" (2years max) solution to help promote a business or lifestyle, or be a way to create a unique look to a vehicle or race car/bike.

HEXIS hands down

You can't repair a wrap, only replace it on an entire panel where the damage is. The color change wraps are generally much thinner than the clear paint protection film wraps like XPEL Ultimate. Thus, they don't provide even close to the same paint protection against projectile damage.

DaveFerrari458 05-03-2020 02:24 PM

The first one with the Matte Grey/Red Mirrors looks amazing! Really makes the car look even more exotic! The other one with the Matte Black/Red Stripes looks really good in the video! The Blue one with the stripes at the gas station looks like shit IMO!! No comment on the other ones.

Hmm?

So I've seen the cool things done with wraps. The Lambo green was a bit much for my personal taste. Though I like that it was super striking. From it, I loved the black roof, A pillars, and the side flare along the bottom. Look cool on our Torch Red, if we ever get it? So I called a wrap artist (no not Kanye West) to ask about it. Price seemed OK. A little bit of an ouch though doable. What wasn't? He says 3-5 years like expectancy. Not sure what I expected? But more than that. So it is a deal breaker for me.

There are enough factory colors for most people. Enough variety for me to not want to drop $5,000 to have some other color. The average person on the street isn't going to know that you spent big money for a unique color. I even saw a vehicle that was wrapped in a scheme where the entire vehicle was covered with currency. Perfect for a car show.

LOL yes. Hard to tell without seeing the Torch Red next to it but it doesn’t have the orange of the Torch Red. When I pick it up Monday, I’ll take a picture next to the painted roof that I didn’t get wrapped. I used the plexi roof, had them wrap the sides and put some more heat coating on the inside.

Matte black/grey really accentuates the lines of the C8 - even the matte purple on Stradman’s (old) C8 just made all the lines pop. I’ve contemplated doing a full matte clear bra for the look and protection but it’s like $5-6k. Rather drop that in a set of wheels and tires.

How close is the match to Torch Red? I am looking to wrap just the side blade. Is it identical? Also, why did you wrap it to such a similar/identical color as what you ordered?

Unfortunately, it does not match Torch Red. The Avery Carmine has less orange in it. You can see in the picture below where the Torch Red roof panel is against the Avery wrap. I did it because I wanted a purer red without going dark. This is also my first wrap so I wanted to see how I like it without going too radical. If it holds up nicely for 3 years, I may just start buying my daily driven cars in black and wrapping them for more color options.

WOW....This is my favorite. couple of questions...

Was original car black?
Are mirrors and spoiler also wrapped or original finish?
How much did it cost?
Does matte PPF get anywhere close to this look?

Thanks in advance !!

^^^ The wheels combined with the wrap on this is outstanding.

^^^ Yes the matte black with cool aftermarket wheels is the best of all of these, fantastic.

I saw the captain America car by my home. It's absolutely horrific.
