How long have you been a fan what years have you owned?

Corvette has created a great new following with the C8 and I for one say welcome glad you're aboard . We all know that in order for a product to survive it has to have sales . We are coming upon the 70th Anniversary of the Corvette in 2023 , which is within itself an amazing feat . It truly speaks volumes for the leadership and engineering Chevrolet has had. That being said its success would not have been possible without the consumer. Many members on this forum have bought these cars for years . And are the reason Corvette still exists. Without tooting your horn let's see how Corvette has survived by listing what years you've owned ?State how long you've been a fan .

See my Signature. I bought my first Corvette 47 Years ago

Skid Row Joe 03-18-2021 11:26 AM

Fan since the age of 8 or so, in the late '50s. Owned 2 new ones. A 1977, and a 2017.

Kracka 03-18-2021 11:27 AM

2014 & 2021 coming. I was not interested in Corvettes even the slightest bit until the C7.

Houston Z33 03-18-2021 11:27 AM

I've always had a curiosity for them as a kid in the 80s thanks to the C4, I've always thought the C3 was beautiful. I'll admit I had prejudice against the Corvette due to it's pushrod motor, leaf springs and "Fiberglass" body so I never saw myself owning one.......until the C7 lured me in

I kept up with the C7 from day one, I never did buy one however. By the time I could afford a C7 the C8 was in testing. I love the C8 and I do aspire to own one however I'm now waiting to see what the Z-06 has in store with it's DOHC motor. Problem is, the new Nissan Z is looking like one hell of a proposition and at half the price of a base C8 (and the same cost as a clean, used C7)

In short, I've never owned a 'vette but I have love and respect for them.

Been a car guy since I was a kid. Followed in my dad's footsteps as an engineer with GM. Bought my first Vette, new in '74 (loaded, out the door $5,670 ). Sold it when I bought my new '86. Sold that one last month in anticipation of my '21. After 16 1/2 months just got a call this morning that I was matched to an allocation!:rock:

I was never a fan until the 1984 came out. I was 16 and thought it was the coolest car in the world. I liked exotics, not muscle cars.
I have owned a lot of nice cars, mostly German. But the Vette will always be my sports car of choice

I have always loved Corvettes. My best friend in high school got a new vette upon graduation, and i was very envious of that car. Got my first corvette in my early 20’s. Bought an almost new 1979 silver C3 with blue interior back in the early 80’s. Then life happened with kids, etc. Sold my pinball collection and decided to get back in a Corvette. Had a base C7 all black with 1LT interior auto. Then a z51 C7 torch red with black 3lt interior with a manual. Last one was a 2016 c7 z06 white with 2lt adrenaline red interior with 2 tops and auto. Sold the z06 when I got in line for a C8. Have on order an ELB coupe with 2lt sky cool grey 2 with tone seats. Hopefully will get a late 21MY.

Fan since I saw a white 1986 C4 Convertible up on the platform in front of Kerbeck in Atlantic City. Purchased my first New Vette...a 1989 C4 Vert when I was 25 years old. Next one was a 1991 white coupe that I purchased used in 1996. Next one was a 2007 Silver C6 purchased used in 2010. Next one was a New Silver Z51 Vert purchased in 2016. Latest one was a 2019 Silver Grandsport Vert purhased in 2019. I'm hoping for a 2022 or 2023 C8 Vert next summer.

Phil1098 03-18-2021 01:01 PM

I've been in and out with Corvette over the years. Bought my first, a 76 in 1980, when I was 20. Also had a 96, and was the Corvette specialist at a Chevy dealer for ten years and sold more Corvettes there than the other 22 sales people combined, that was from 1992 to 2002. Went into commercial sales and thought I was done with Corvette. Went to the dark side and owned a Mustang for five years (longer than any other car I have ever owned) and for some odd reason, just loved that car. (had never owned a Ford in my life). Was looking at buying a used 911S for about 9 months and the the reveal came on 7/18/19. Was in disbelief over what was being offered for that price and placed my deposit on 7/20/19. I actually enjoy the C8 more today than the day I brought it home, that's a good sign for me.

Tally Ho 03-18-2021 01:50 PM

I wasn't so much a fan early on. I was a hard core big block muscle car fan. Then the late 70's and early 80's came along and there was nothing in the way of American performance. The C4 spiked my interest but on E5 pay and putting my wife through school a new 1984 C4 wasn't going to happen. The local Caddy dealer in Hastings, Nebraska where I was stationed took an 82 CE in on trade. I made that car my first Vette in 1985 and have not been without one since. Here's what I've owned:

1982 (2 - CE and regular)
1989 conv.
1998 conv.
2006 conv. (still own from new)
2013 427 conv.
2017 Z06 coupe (still own from new)

A C8 is on the radar. Waiting to see if the Z06 will be TT. If not, I wait for the ZR1.

HogwildC7 03-18-2021 01:53 PM

Fan since 1982, my favorite is the 1988 Anniversary Edition. My First was an 2009. I have bought 13 Corvettes. And nor I have never received anything from GM.

Out of all the Corvettes you've owned, which one was your favorite?

As for me, I have a 2021 that should be here April/May and this will be my first Corvette. I test drove a 2014 manual-transmission a few years ago and I had a smile from ear to ear the entire time. It was the most fun I've ever had driving a car. Unfortunately the deal didn't work out, but from that point on I told myself that I would own a Corvette some day. Fast forward to when the C8 was announced and I was immediately hooked. Also, I've always wanted to own a car from my birth year (1981) and the Corvette is the coolest car from that year. So maybe one day I'll have a C3 as well.

Vetteman Jack 03-18-2021 03:05 PM

Been a fan since I was a teenager and am now 66. Corvettes owned include:

1979
1979 (yes, two of them)
1984
1989
1994
1995
1999
2000
2003
2014 (current car)

66, 73,77, 05, 20. personally each had its on unique qualities, I liked them all then, still do. Which one is the greatest? The one you currently are sitting behind the wheel of.

dvilin 03-18-2021 03:11 PM

I would say I am more of an auto enthusiast as I have owned 4 Porsches among other muscle cars. As for Corvettes I have owned the following:
1968
1973
2008
2015
2019

As for me, I have a 2021 that should be here April/May and this will be my first Corvette. I test drove a 2014 manual-transmission a few years ago and I had a smile from ear to ear the entire time. It was the most fun I've ever had driving a car. Unfortunately the deal didn't work out, but from that point on I told myself that I would own a Corvette some day. Fast forward to when the C8 was announced and I was immediately hooked. Also, I've always wanted to own a car from my birth year (1981) and the Corvette is the coolest car from that year. So maybe one day I'll have a C3 as well.

My 1992 black rose convertible with white top and white interior. I remember at the 1992 Bloomington gold road tour staging area I literally had a crowd around the car until we launched. Each and every one of my cars had its own personality. I also loved my 2001 triple black convertible and to this day I’m sorry I ever sold it. I’m also liking the 2020 very much but with only 500 miles on the clock I just haven’t had enough seat time in her. I can tell you this it’s definitely the most sophisticated and refined Corvette I have ever owned hands down.

We were at Bloomington that year. And several others before and after. Been in NCCC for a LONG time now. Used to be Northern Rays outside of Chicago.

I’ve been a fan since 15 (1976). A local lawyer drove a 1963 split window and a friend of mine had a new 1976. After a ride in the 76 I was hooked!
I bought a used 75 coupe at 19, a 05 coupe at 57, and now own a 15 1LT Laguna Blue coupe. If I was a wealthy man I’d own at least one of each generation.

themonk 03-18-2021 06:56 PM

I was a die hard Mustang guy, still am a little until a friend of mine who knows everything about older Corvettes (he used to own Western Corvette here in Calgary) asked me to help him pick up a 2000 triple black C5 automatic in Edmonton, I was to drive it down to Calgary back in 2003. After driving that car I was hooked, I loved that C5 and promptly sought one out and after a few years I managed to get a 2000 BGM 6 spd 'vert, then a year later a 2003 6 spd Speedway white with white top 'vert which I kept for 7 years. 2013 I ordered an Arctic White C7 Z51 MN7 which I had up until Feb 2020, sadly got rid of it to happily get my current Torch Red C8 Z51 which I picked up in October of 2020. So about 20 years and 4 Corvettes later I still love them and will keep upgrading.

A fan since late 60's. Owned '78 coupe (traded for a baby - adoptions were costly back then), '94 coupe, '98 convertible, '05 coupe, '15 coupe, '17 coupe, '21 coupe (being built tomorrow - 3/19). I ditched both the '15 and '17 cars due to the same auto transmission (torque converter) issue in both cars.

I was never really a car guy until the past 20 years. Been to busy with school and training. Loved the look of the new Challengers so I bought a 2008 Srt 8 B5 Blue Challenger (1 of 150 made) and sent it to Florida and chopped the top off to make a convertible.......Loved the look but ruined the car. Sold it and got a 2011 Inaugural edition 392 Hemi Challenger. Loved that car but never drive it. Sold it and got a 1966 Mustang GT convertible. Still have that one. never been a Corvette guy, until I saw the C8 and it was all over. Had to have one. So now I sit on Macmulkins list, #349 after today's allocations.

I became a fan when I was around 10 to 12 and my uncle, a design engineer for Chevrolet, brought the “Mako shark” home and gave me a ride. I was hooked from then on. I’ve owned a 2003 and 2014. Waiting on my C8 to be built in April.

Love me some Corvette.

xxvetteman 03-18-2021 08:57 PM

1974 at age 23 bought a 70 big block, 4 spd. 1978 saw a new L82, 4 spd. Replace the 70. Sold in 1981 when son was 2. Since then a “95” in 1998, an “06” in 2008, a “96” Grand Sport in 2015 (still have it), and a”16” Z51 in 2019 (still have it also).

I have been a fan of Corvettes since about 1968 when I saw a white C2 convertible with red interior going down a busy road near my house. I have been hook every since. I bought my first Vette at 36. And of course it was white with red interior.

See my signature for the Vettes I have owned. My wife has owned two Vettes.

Washagain 03-18-2021 09:16 PM

In the 70’s, I was always the kid pointing and yelling “Vette! Vette!” when a lucky owner would roar by. I have been a fan all my life but could not afford one until 2000.

My neighbor had a brand new 68 coupe with a 427. I managed to get a ride around the block in it and was impressed but wasn’t hooked. A few years later, at the impressionable age of 15, my manager at a restaurant I was working at as a dishwasher gave me ride home in his 68 327 convertible. I will never forget that ride home! He opened it up and I was hooked! It wasn’t until much later until I could afford to own a Corvette and ordered a white 85 coupe that was capable of 150 mph. It had port fuel injection. Got married then divorced, bought an 87 coupe. Then sold it to buy s boat. I always wanted a 68 to relive that first experience so I bought a 68 convertible 427. I still own that car some 20 years later. I bought a torch red 02 coupe with 500 miles on it. I loved that car but it didn’t love me and was unreliable. Then I found a 2010 ZR1 and bought it used. I thought I would never sell that car, but when I ran across a 2019 ZR1 coupe with low miles I made trade. I still have the 1968 British Green 427 convertible and 2019 black ZTK 3LT ZR1. I have a 2021 ELB Z51 coupe on order that has a 3/22 build date. I plan to keep all three Corvettes. I need more garage space so a lift is in my future. There is nothing like a Corvette. I’m hooked for life!

I have owned 32 corvettes first in 1970 a 67 big block.
Been a fan since 1957 when I saw 2 new 57s at a gas station. Info I’m 77 current ride 16 Z06 18000 miles

I've been a fan since I was a kid watching Route 66 TV show. Then my Uncle got a '63 Vette and I was crazy about it and stated that one day, I'll own one !!!

In the mid 60's we moved into a very affluent neighborhood, and my folks made it clear to me that although there were numerous Corvettes in the neighborhood ( Northern VA..... Lake Barcroft ) that I would be driving something much more in line with my saving my lawn mowing , and shoveling snow money....

At age 24 I bought my first Vette, a '65 Roadster ...... it was 1975 at the time.

Been a Fan since I first saw a C3 in the mid 70s
Bought my 1st, a 2002 in 2002. I had that until 2018 when I finally sold it for Garage Room
Number of years back I added a Copper 68 Coupe that I later sold and bought a 68 International Blue Convertible.
A couple years added a Triple Black 64 Convertible
Then I bought the 2014 Velocity Yellow Stingray Coupe. This was sold 2 Years ago to make room for my Blade Silver 2020 C8 which I got in September.

YLWFVR75 03-18-2021 11:14 PM

Fan since 1984 when I first saw a picture of a C4 at the mall at one of those t shirt screen printing kiosks. I was 9 years old. I didn't know what it was but thought it was the coolest car I've ever seen. Fast forward to July 2000 when I placed my C5 millennium yellow order , 15 months later on Oct 15th,2001 I was a proud and Lucky owner of a C5 coupe. Still own it and will never sell it. Looking to add hopefully add a C8 HTC in 2023.

Rapid Fred 03-18-2021 11:43 PM

When I took my first “career” job in 1976, my boss had a new C3 and my best friend had a 280Z. No contest — I did not particularly like my boss, and his expensive C3 was nowhere near as nice a ride as my buddy’s Z. The “phallic substitute” stereotype really fit (in my small sample size) so far as I was concerned.

And so, perhaps unfairly, a disdain for Vettes and a love of foreign sports/sporty cars was born. That is, until nearly 30 years later I test-drove a ‘93 M6 in 2004. It was competing for my affection with similarly priced used foreign sports cars, notably the Porsche 944S2/968 (I had owned, and loved, a used 944 about a decade previously.) I was completely shocked at how much I enjoyed everything about that Vette — I bought it and have been in nothing but Vettes since. In order, ‘93, ‘99, ‘01 Z06, ‘05, ‘08, and my current ‘15.

Not only are they great sports cars that work wonderfully as daily drivers, but the whole Vette experience — club activities, Carlisle, National Corvette Caravan and Museum, Corvette Racing and the Corrals, track days, shows, cruise-ins, C&Cs and charity events — has truly added so much richness to my life!

Now, I’m hanging around here as I am strongly considering buying my first ever NEW Vette — an HTC. Totally against my philosophy of buying used, but I feel like I owe myself — and my wife has become an enthusiastic co-conspirator.

It’s been a fun ride...

mutheta46 03-18-2021 11:59 PM

Fan pretty much my whole life! Bought my first in 2005 when I was 25 and was hooked on the car and the Corvette community as a member of Longhorn Corvette Club in Austin, TX. I've had the following cars since then, in this order.

'73 - L82 Coupe
'04 - Z06
'09 - Z06 (still own)
'64 - 327/365 Coupe (still own)
'21 Coupe (scheduled for NCM pick-up on 4/19)

It is journey with lots of sweet memories.

Years: 63, 64(2), 65(3), 68, 73(2), 79, 85, 88, 90(ZR1), 98, 03, 07,10(ZR1) & 21. = 19 total. My corvettes have all been daily drivers. Over the years, I built several businesses with the last one as the only owner. My special joy was commuting and driving between clients and business partners the Corvette I had at the time. After selling my business, I retired and went to driving Porsches and Ferraris. My wife saw the new rapid blue C8 in an airline magazine, fell in love with it and had to have it. She was right, I am impressed with the design, engineering, drive and value of the C8 HTC we have. We have a 2021 and a 65 Convertible. C2 and C8 are our favorites.

Your story is so similar to mine . My Uncle took me a ride in a modified 64 , I was 16 still in school no job with maybe a learner's permit at the time . I had always love Corvettes but that hooked me . Your car buying experience is like mine except the C6 era (skipped that era raising family)

Another fan since Route 66, bought my first new C6 in 2007 , Monterey Red 3lt, my second Vette was a factory order 2016 C7 2lt and now with a deposit last Dec for a C8 I assume it will be a 2022 at this point.

OldCarBum 03-19-2021 10:54 AM

I’ve been a Corvette fan since I was 16 and my Great Uncle Howard let me drive his ‘66 silver big block coupe.
I’ve had all the muscle cars from the 70’s and built a couple of hot rods over the years.
Nothing could match or replace the feel of driving the true American Sports Car.
I purchased my first Corvette 5 years ago, a ‘73 big block coupe.
It’s not my Uncles ‘66, but it’s as close to it as I can afford.

Crazy question for some of you.....

I see some have owned multiple years of the same gen, why? I can sort of understand the gens that had a ton of changes (C1, C3, C4) but some gens didn't change much during the run (C2, C5, C6, C7)

I bought my second C6 because it was a special, one year only car - 427 Convertible 60th Anniversary

The car handled like crap and the heat from the side pipes was so intense that I had to drive with the AC on full blast, top up or down. The V10 sounded awful. It was a poorly designed and built car.

I've been a Corvette fan since the 60's. I ordered a red,1970 454 Corvette shortly after returning home from Vietnam. Unfortunately, the waiting period for the big block back then was nearly 6 months. I had a '69 Plymouth Roadrunner at the time and sold it in 1 day. I didn't want to be without a car for 6 months, so I cancelled the Corvette and ordered a '70 SS 396 Nova (375 hp). A Corvette didn't make any sense for me financially after I got married and we had children. I purchased a used, low mileage, '98 C5 Corvette in 2000 and promised my wife I was going to drive it every day and not do anything to it. I had that car for nearly 17-years and it became a garage queen. It was highly modified and was never driven in the rain. I decided to sell my C5 in 2015 with the intent of ordering a C7 after being diagnosed with Agent Orange related cancer. My wife suggested that I go all out and get a Z06, so I ordered a 2016 Z06. :D I loved that car, but decided to order a '19 Z06, which is what I'm currently driving. My Z06 makes me feel like I'm 17 again and puts a huge smile on my face.

Always loved them, but poured my money into my company. Was finally able to buy the 2017 in 2019. My first was a 2017 Z06 Blade Silver with Red interior and calipers. Dealer screwed up powertrain, yielding a driveline vibration, so I traded it on my 2020.

My wife is to blame for this madness. I had never been a Corvette fan; my wife had owned a 1978 Corvette long before we met. In September of 1995 I was driving home from work one day. The kids had grown up and moved out and as I sat at a traffic light I asked myself why was I driving a car that would hold five or six people? I liked the Z-28 so I went to a Chevrolet dealer to look at one, a red convertible. I told the salesman I needed to let my wife see it and he said to drive it home and show her. She didn't like it; she really, really didn't like the odd level change in the passenger's foot well where the catalytic converter was. Her comment was "if you want this car, get it; but, I'm not riding in it". Then she added "if you want to do this, get a real car". I asked her what she had in mind and she said to go look at a Corvette. I told her I wasn't interested in one to which she replied "have you ever driven one"? I told her no, I had not. She told me that I owed it to myself to drive one and then decide. The next day we went to a dealership and as soon as I got into one I knew I was toast.

The rest is history.
