Do you use a pressure washer…if yes, which one?

Personally, I like to use a pressure washer to first rinse down the car to get all the loose dirt off then I like to use it along with my foam gun. I had a gas powered pressure washer but sold it when I moved to Florida six months ago. So now I want to get an electric washer so I don’t have to deal with gasoline, engine oil changes and pump oil changes.

I am looking at the Sun Joe SPX3000 2030 Max PSI 1.76 GPM 14.5-Amp Electric High Pressure Washer. Anyone have any experience with this unit? If not, what do you use?

  • I purchased this unit on Amazon end of Nov, 2018, it lasted till the end of 2021. I ended up buying Suyncll 1.7GPM electric pressure washer on Amazon for the driveway etc.
  • If the intended use is to just wash cars, I also have the RYOBI 1.2 GPM electric pressure washer that I bought at Home Depot, when it was on sale with $40 off. Unit is light and portable and good enough for a car wash.

Kracka 03-30-2022 04:30 PM

Ryobi here as well.

I have used a foam cannon and a Kranzle pressure washer for years. German made, superb quality.

Sicky 03-30-2022 05:36 PM

I don't recommend it. Had one (SPX 3000) crap out after two years of very light duty. It tipped over very easily as well. I thought of it as a tinker toy and took great pleasure putting it in the trash donkey kong style.

LimeRay 03-30-2022 06:19 PM

Kranzle is what you want, it will outlive you. Remember what Dad always said, "you get what you pay for".

No, never as I'm too old school and enjoy the old two bucket hand wash method as I find washing a fine vehicle relaxing and therapeutic.

loutruffa@gmail.com 03-30-2022 06:28 PM

I like my Briggs and Stratton 2200 1.2 GPM electric Simple and easy and think I paid $209 Would never do gas again with oil changing crappy carbs that get gummed up , pulling a rope start etc. I also like drying with cordless leave blower

I do both.
  1. Pre wash with PW to break up loose dirt/grime
  2. Foam cannon with PW. Let dwell for a few minutes. Rinse with PW
  3. Two bucket method. Rinse with PW.
  4. Drying aid or wax or ceramic topper depending on the car being washed.
  5. Dry.
As for the OP, I have this one and it's been great: https://www.homedepot.com/p/RYOBI-23...2300/300405751

The hose is garbage, so be sure to upgrade to a 50ft flexible hose. Otherwise you'll hate your life with how stiff and unwieldy the included one is.

Caymanspyder 03-30-2022 06:36 PM

Sun Joe!

rpiechowski 03-30-2022 06:40 PM

Don't skimp on the foam cannon. Griott's Boss well worth the money. You will be just over 200 with the ryobi washer, griotts cannon and flexilla hose

DarthMaliceM1 03-30-2022 09:34 PM

I have a greenworx electric one from Lowes...no issues. Got the matching foam cannon which works very well. Just wish I could find a small gun attachment...long wand one that comes with it is a bit unwieldy.

I have that unit. It works fine. I like it because it's lightweight, has the right a mount of pressure for a car wash. I also like it because it is cheap and all pressure washers fail eventually or you break them or drop them or back over them or a gasket fails or whatever. For the price (hint, get a refurb, even cheaper) you can replace it 2-3 times before you hit the price of the units mentioned. I've only had one fail and that was after I dropped it in the (salt water) harbor using it to clean my boat last summer. Did I mention they're cheap to replace?

Jeffs82c3 03-30-2022 09:52 PM

Honda, 8 hp, I use it on the concrete around the pool.

Bmbl-Bee 03-30-2022 10:16 PM

I bought one at Harbor Freight. Electric-works great. Handy for doing wheels and under the cars. $69.00 on sale.

peter pan 03-30-2022 10:20 PM

I went with a Karcher 1700 psi and use MTM foam cannon and stubby gun.

No, never... not even on my truck.

2001C5 03-31-2022 12:12 AM

I use an Active VE52 I bought on Amazon. Many foam cannons need 2 GPH and is it hard to find a low pressure, high GPM unit. This one is 1800 PSI and 2 GPM.

I've been using the RYOBI 1,600 PSI 1.2 GPM Electric Pressure Washer for two years. Three-way selectable pressure power from low power to protect the paint or a high power oscillation spray for wheel cleaning. It even has a liquid soap dispensing feature. Click here for this RYOBI product link and more details.

Anybody use a car wash?

If so, no clearance or damage problems?

RobsVette04 03-31-2022 10:37 AM

I have the DeWalt battery operated unit, perfect for applications like this and no large gas/electric unit to lug out and store.

Tim0shel 03-31-2022 11:25 AM

I've been thinking about looking at something to replace my smaller electric one. Instead I've been using my bigger gas powered unit.

Jacob 03-31-2022 11:28 AM

Yes, I use this Greenworks 3000 with a few modications. Lowered the pressure (using different orifices) to slightly under 1000 PSI so as to not damage the paint. Also bought a commercial grade foam cannon, wand, gun and nozzle from MTM Hydro, along with 50' commercial high pressure hose with reel. Also used quik connect fittings for all connections.

I've had my SunJoe for 6 years. Works fine

Even if I have to replace it another 10 times it still won't equal the price of a Kranzle.

While I'm happy to pay for quality, paying for a product that exceeds my application requirements is just overpaying. My Sunjoe works fine for washing a few cars, a few times a month.

+1 for a Karcher K1700 in the same price range as the Sun Joe SPX3000. I have the portable Cube version and love it. I also upgraded with an MTM spray gun, Uberflex hose, and quick disconnects.

Search google for Obsessed Garage pressure washer tests. He methodically tests 50 pressure washers, very data driven.

This probably doesn't need to be said but don't try to use a pressure washer to clean bugs out of the condensers. It will bend your fins.

ericok 03-31-2022 01:32 PM

I use a Ryobi EZClean.

I think you just invented the next contrived “must have” Corvette-tax-subjective mod - grill guards that will prevent damage from pressure washers

That looks like the bomb!

I have an old wand that connects to the hose AND my compressor. What I like about it versus a pressure washer is it does a great job of sucking up soap when I put it on air only.
Unfortunately they don't make 'em anymore.
This looks like a great modern alternative!

Combine that with a cordless (Bluetooth) sprayer and you'd be set!

mnm4ever 03-31-2022 03:35 PM

I also have that Greenworks Pro 3000 electric pressure washer. It works great, power is good and its enough gpm to run the foam cannon. The only annoying thing about it is that it doesn't auto start/stop the pump as you pull the trigger, it works more like a gas one in that regard. So if you are only using it for bursts with time between, you have to remember to turn off the pump manually.

GPZ ! 03-31-2022 04:31 PM

I bought that same one..Sun Joe SPX 3000 works great with a foam canon

rawbar 03-31-2022 05:11 PM

My Sun Joe died in 1 season, only used it 3 or 4 times before putting it away for winter. Next spring I went to use it and dead. Replaced with a Ryobi. Used 5 or 6 times (much much better than the Joe). Hopefully when I take it out this year (season 2) it'll work!!!!

Neither has the range to pressure wash more than the bottom 2/3rds of my house though :(. But for cars the Ryobi is probably powerful enough to blow PPF right off of it, so need to be careful I imagine.

This is my set-up with a Kranzle K1322TS electric power washer and deionizer. PW requires a dedicated 20-amp circuit. Really enjoy never having to worry with spots using the DI.

I love pressure washers. I have used them for 40 years and have custom built a couple of monsters. Nothing like them for cleaning wheels and bugs. These 120v electrics are really weak. If you can afford a gas one, get the biggest one you can. If you are a snob, then you want a triplex pump and not a Wobble-plate pump. CAT pumps are very good, as are Honda engines. But, a cheap wobble pump with a Briggs or Chinese engine is worlds better than an electric. Simpson make a great inexpensive premium washer with a CAT pump and a Honda GX engine for $700. It’s a deal. If you have the big engine, you can get a nozzle set. Use a wide angle nozzle. It will give you the same pressure as an electric, but with a way greater volume of flow. This cleans so much better than the anemic electric ones. If you use the narrow angle nozzle, you will start taking paint off. Don’t do that. Use it in wide flow. For extra goodness, add a pre-pump soap injector. It’s a great way to baby your car. A 120v washer is little more than a high pressure urine stream. It just isn’t enough. I have had pressure washers as big as 13hp and 5000 psi, but I found that a 6 or 7hp with a 3GPM 3000 psi pump is enough for any car and even driveways and decks. It may take a smidge longer on the driveway, but was adequate.

VetteVinnie 03-31-2022 10:15 PM

I have a 1700 PSI Ryobi electric that I also use on my pool decking. It has been working fine for almost 10 years and counting (although I have had to replace the hose and nozzle at least once so far). I combine it with a Chemical Guys foam cannon and CR Spotless DIC-20 conditioner.

After a quick spray-off, rinse all the glass, the roof, the hood, trunk off with DISTILLED WATER. Cost you $1 / gallon, get a couple of gallons.

No water spotting, even if you miss wiping a section or it dries too quickly.

Most automatic car washes have a de-ionized water rinse at the end, distilled water works even better.

Cheers!

Thanks for the tip. I think I am going to have to try that method.

I go to the local spray wash. $5. Soap, rinse, drive home, mop up the drips. Done. Easy peasy no wax. Optical pro coated.

Amoreloba 04-01-2022 11:33 PM

Just bought the ryobi 1800 psi 1.2 GPM one plus the water broom and undercarriage cleaner. Worked out really good. Undercarriage cleaner fits everywhere but the rear where the affixed jacking pucks are, could just jack the car slightly if it was a big deal. I’d strongly recommend getting the 35 foot pressure hose, the one it comes with is just barely long enough to get around the car with the pump at the nose. Pump also came with a foam blaster so that’s nice. Can’t complain about it for $99 at HDX.

Last weekend I bought the DeWalt DWPW2100. Super convenient with the accessories stored inside and works great on both the cars and the siding of the house. Not super cheap, but well made and relatively quiet. Enough cord to plug in on the far wall from the garage door and use outside.
