Where did you buy your car from?

There's so many options these days, I was curious where everyone bought their car? A dealer? An online retailer? Private sale? The forum? Did you have an issues? Lets hear your story.

Vette_DD 01-12-2023 06:01 PM

I've owned 7 Corvettes, although I don't own one right now. I bought all 7 of them from a Chevy dealer. 4 of them were new cars, 3 of them were used cars. 3 of the 4 new cars were bought from 3 different dealers, all locally or nearby.

No issues with any of them.

Those purchases were spread over 45 years.

PMPerformance 01-12-2023 06:23 PM

I scouted for awhile and ended up settling on one I found on Auto Trader that was at a Chevy dealer a couple states away.
While I regret letting my emotions get the best of me and not being 100% happy with the deal, I absolutely love the car for what it is.

I documented my pickup too, so I can cherish the experience/mistake forever. Hahaha *insert shameless plug*

Another new car (THIS TIME IT’S THE ONE YOU WANT TO SEE!)

I found mine on line at a Chevy dealership in Colorado that sells many Corvettes (I'm in Montana) Once I had all my questions answered and we agreed on a price, I flew down there to look it over on the pretense that if I saw something I didn't like about the car, I'd fly back home. The car ended up being everything they said it was, so we finished the transaction, and I drove it back to Montana. The dealership I bought it from is in Ft. Lupton Colorado, which is N.E. of Denver aways, they were very nice, and picked me up at the airport and drove me to the dealership where the car was. It was a very pleasant, and hassle free transaction, plus I had a nice road trip home to get the feel of the car.

v4e2r7t 01-12-2023 06:54 PM

Through CarGurus, I found mine here: Classic Motor Cars (Lubbock TX)

In July 2021, I bought a 2013 1SC 427 Convertible with the 60th Anniversary graphics and interior, in addition to the ZR1 wheels, with 1,400 miles.

I had a good sense of what the car was worth before I called them. They sent me a walkaround video and I thanked them. They called me after a few days and offered me a lowered price good for a week. It was a fair price in my opinion so I drove out, picked it up, and drove it home.

I paid cash. They were absolutely no nonsense whatsoever. It was a very easy experience.

Just watched your video the other day on installing the side skirts and bonus tail lights lol. Ill have to watch this video while at the gym tonight.

I bought mine from a private party. The 78 year old original owner. He had just bought a new 2014 C7 and did not have room for his beloved C6. I was the lucky guy who found his ad on Cars.com. It was the exact car I wanted. Color, interior, options, wheels. Everything. And it was less than an hour drive from my house. That was 8 years ago. Trouble free fun ever since.

huggerorange73 01-12-2023 07:33 PM

Purchased from this forum in 2013.

Brent4880 01-12-2023 07:53 PM

I bought my low mile 09 in August 2021. I researched and knew exactly what I wanted - must haves and no ways. I checked internet daily for about a month until mine showed up. I bought it from a large used car dealership that generally specializes in performance and high end vehicles - had some Lamborghinis, Ferraris, BMWs, Porches, etc. The price was very much in line with year, trim, miles, and condition. The salesman I dealt with was pleasant, knowledgeable, patient, helpful, and no pressure. It was a smooth and enjoyable buying experience. I had my car checked over this past summer at a local (an hour away - I live in the sticks) Chevy dealership that focuses on Corvettes for an oil change. Everything good. I’ve had a year and a half of happy, trouble free ownership. This summer along with the oil change I’m getting all new tires and have all the fluids changed. It will be my new 14 year old car.

Best of luck finding your corvette.

Scuba Ghost 01-12-2023 07:56 PM

Bought my C6 from Tommy in 2012.

Thanks buddy. I actually had to rewatch some of my first Vette videos to remember all the angst I had when I first got it. Hahaha.

BadAV 01-12-2023 09:09 PM

All three of mine were found as low mileage garage queens at a car dealer. One that dealt in used creampuffs, the other two were at a Chevrolet dealer.

TorchRedFred 01-12-2023 09:13 PM

Private seller on Craigslist one state over from me in PA.

Conchie13215 01-12-2023 09:55 PM

Purchased my 08 from a forum member. After a few private messages we got in touch and the deal was made in 10 minutes.
Beautiful drive to Pennsylvania to pick it up. I didn’t even go crazy overlooking the car, it was exactly how he described. Car has ran perfect for the last 3 years.
This is my third corvette and my favorite, although I wish I had my old c5z sitting next to it.

skybolt31 01-12-2023 10:07 PM

I bought mine from a Mercedes dealer a few states away, it was on FB marketplace, I gave him a deposit over the phone and went and looked at the car and bought it. They gave me a temporary registration and said that they would take care of registering it in my state. That was a big mistake, they screwed that up and it took 3 months to register it. Next time I would have taken the tittle and done it myself. I love the care though and everything else about the deal was great.

lilcuda 01-12-2023 10:08 PM

Private seller in Albuquerque, NM. Found it on CL using Autotempest. Seller was super cool and easy to deal with. I didn’t even negotiate because it was everything wanted and it had only 7855 miles on it.

I picked mine up at a Buick GMC in the state of Delaware. I flew into a nearby airport, I live in Ohio, and drove it back 7 hours away. After watching the market for months, I decided to pull the trigger.

I watched your video and was laughing when you were talking about the aux cord not working right. Mine didn’t even have one and thought that I was missing out. Putting in a new deck is the first mod I did to the car. I’m surprised. you didn’t have the pricing figured out before going to take delivery.

You’re right about these cars and electronics. You have to know what you’re doing. No regrets on my purchase.

HOXXOH 01-12-2023 11:28 PM

I ordered my '08 from Les Stanford Chevrolet in MI. When it arrived from the factory, my wife and I flew into Detroit and finished the paperwork/payment. It took 30 days to get home to Phoenix, because we wandered around the East and South coasts, through 15 States for 5500 miles just to enjoy the new car on the first of many road trips.

CorvetteSparky 01-13-2023 12:49 AM

The last one I found on ebay and bought from a private party. The one before that was from a forum member so that too weas from a private party. Both cars were as advertised with no issues. Both cars were bought out of state and the forum seller let me use his license plate on the car to get it home. I did the same when selling that car here on the forum. It saves the hassle of a trip permit.

cadyshac 01-13-2023 07:53 AM

First time from a dealer, experienced typical dealer stuff but it was expected. Second time from private party, in N Carolina. I flew there, owner met me and the car checked out. We went to courthouse together and did necessary paperwork. I paid him and drove home 500 miles, it was a great experience.

javaman 01-13-2023 08:05 AM

First one (04) was from Kerbeck (now Ciocca) up in NJ.
Deal with Kerbeck was by far the best around.
Bought my 69 from a private seller.
Had stars in my eyes - big mistake.
Last (and current) came from Rogers Corvettes in Maitland, FL.
Rogers specializes in high end, previously owned ‘Vettes.
Bought it in Feb of 20.
No issues - car was extremely well cared for by the two previous owners.

Noblebro175 01-13-2023 08:26 AM

Surprised not to see more " from the forum " and not surprised no one has chimed in buying off BAT yet, although there's been some good deals on Z06's over the past few months. I search about every known site weekly , some daily. You'll find a few that list here, usually list on ither sites too. Many say they have the best luck on FB marketplace.

hawkgfr 01-13-2023 08:41 AM

I bought mine from a Chevy dealer in Tennessee four years ago...I live in SC...It was an ultra low mile car listed on auto trader...Story was car was in a guy's collection of a handful of cars and he passed and the dealer bought two of his cars from estate sale. The other was a low mile Caprice they had already sold....Wife and I drove up and looked at it came home and two days later I decided to buy it and did...Its been a great car, besides maintenance I had to replace passenger wheel bearing assembly because speed sensor broke and is not serviceable causing a code to be thrown over and over.(thanks GM) Otherwise car in still mint and trouble free fun and I drive it in good weather year round....now has about 30k on it..

I've had four other c6's and a c7 and all of those were purchased new from various Chevy dealers...so six total...

Bought my 2011 GS new from Macmulkin Chevrolet in Jun 2011 .. This was back in the day when dealerships had big inventories of Corvettes and they were discounted way below MSRP.

No trade-in, no financing, straight cash deal.

$59,980 MSRP . -$9,729 Dealer Discount . -$750 USAA Cash Back . = . $49,501 out the door (17.5% off MSRP)

+ Florida tax, title and plates once I drove the car down to Florida and registered it there.

The car now has 26,000 miles on it ... and a few 'extra parts' installed . . :D

Bought my GS used at Radley Chevrolet in 2019, one owner car, unmolested, before covid prices and I beat them down to 24k out the door on it since it was almost winter and I was trading in an equally nice Sierra 1500 that they knew they could make a quick buck on. Worked out pretty good. Car is no longer unmolested and has lived on the rev limiter ever since the way God and Zora intended.

My 98 I bought from some old man who promised me I wouldn't mod it. 3 years later and it had a vortech v3, ecs fuel system, and was making 700 wheel on a 5.3... long gone though unfortunately, fun car though when it worked.

jrose7004 01-13-2023 09:34 AM

Private sale. I had convinced a friend to buy the car for his wife. She didn't like it so he made me a deal and I bought it.

thoffman2000 01-13-2023 09:49 AM

Bought mine from the widow of a friend that passed away. I'd always wanted a Corvette and was pissed when my friend bought one first (Corvette Envy). Not much more than a year later, he passed after suffering a heart attack leaving the car to his widow. For a few months I thought about asking her what her plans were for the car. My friend had a son too that I thought might be interested in it so I didn't want to intrude on that. After a few months, she contacted me asking if I would help her sell the Corvette because, a) she couldn't afford to keep making the payments, b) neither she nor her son wanted to keep it and c) she had no idea what it was worth and how to sell it. I thought about it for a bit and asked how she would feel if I bought the car. She was very excited and told me all she wanted for it was to payoff the loan. Knowing that wouldn't really be fair to her, I researched a fair market value and made that as my offer. She was more than happy with my offer and accepted immediately. In fact, she was so happy with the offer that she included a small pop-up camper that they had with the sale of the car. I've since sold the camper but love the car and drive it as much as I can while cherishing the memories that I had made with my friend.

The drive home without music and nav kind of sucked. Lol.
I did have the pricing figured out before hand. It’s just that the car was not what they advertised and the flaws were not pointed out like I asked for from videos and pictures beforehand

VetteVinnie 01-13-2023 10:28 AM

Well, it varies. I've owned six (still own two) Corvettes so far:

2003 Z06 - came from a dealer used lot
2006 Z51 Coupe - brand new from a dealer (same dealer where I bought the Z06 - they gave me what I paid for it on a trade in even though I'd been driving it for a couple of years)
2008 Z06 - Corvettes of Houston (now Corvette World)
2010 ZR1 - Bought it from a performance shop that was using it as their test mule and show car
2011 Grand Sport - private party from this forum (C6 For Sale section)
2001 Corvette - inherited from my mother-in-law since she could no longer drive it - transferred to my wife

Currently in the stable:

The latest one was from Carmax of all places. Had it shipped from Maryland. Paid too much for it but I wanted it that bad since it is an exact duplicate of my previous GS. I've purchased one new GS and an 08 from MacMaulkin too among other vettes at other places..

sramzzz 01-13-2023 11:00 AM

I purchased mine from D&M Motorsports in Chicago. This is a family owned business that deals in low mileage 1 owner vettes and have expanded selling lots of high end cars. I negociated everthing via mail and phone calls for the purchase. It was at a time that I could not travel so I had it shipped with the following stipulations. I had right of refusal upon deliverly that if the car did not live up to expectations it would be loaded back on the trailer and returned at no cost to me plus a full refund of the purchase price. The 2nd stipulation was I had 3 days to check it out and could return it for a full refund of the purchase price but I had to pay shipping. I have bought a lot of biig ticket items in my day and I must say this was the most pleasant buying experience to date.

Rebob0510 01-13-2023 11:08 AM

I bought mine off Facebook marketplace LOL. I had been searching and searching and had a list of what I wanted. While scrolling this car caught my eye and checked all the boxes I wanted and it was only a hour away from me. Seen it on Friday, Loaded it up in the trailer and brought it home the next Friday

C6_Prodigy 01-13-2023 12:35 PM

I used a search tool that doesn't exist anymore.

Someone had built a search tool on a very basic-looking web site that would scan for certain cars across facebook, craigslist, cargurus, ebay, etc. and return matches.

Found mine on Facebook using that tool and then found it posted here in the for sale section. Within a few days of finding it, I rented a car, drove 4 hours up to see it, bought it with cash, and drove home.

El_Steveo 01-13-2023 12:51 PM

Bought mine from a Nissan dealer. The driver door didn't open properly, there was a suspected leak in the trunk, and the roof creaked. Guy told me I could have them fix it, or he would take 2,000 of the price of the car. I chose the latter and fixed everything for 45 bucks. It was by no means a perfect car and had 131,000 miles, but its perfect for the nice street/track car I'm building. 20,000 out the door and its a 2008 LS3 Z51 car bought in February during Covid pricing

I liked how your wife flipped you off when you were complaining about her being late. Did you ever get the glue removed from the interior seams? What did you use for future reference?

TripleB5832 01-13-2023 02:07 PM

I bought my first Vette, a low mileage C4 base vert, from a private seller when I lived in the DFW area. That was almost 2 decades ago. I kept that car 7 years....wish I still had it.

I bought my second and current Vette, a really low mile C6 GS, in January of 2019 from Riverside Motorsports in Janesville, Wisconsin. Riverside is a family owned business that deals with Corvettes only. Easiest car purchase I've ever made. Spent several calls discussing the car, sent me tons of pics, he was very helpful, provided all the info he had on the vehicle, obviously knew Corvettes very well. Cash deal, I took the title with me, wife and I flew up, he picked us up at the airport, we checked the car out, drove it, then completed the transaction and the bride and I hit the road to home, stopping in Bowling Green at the NCM on our way.

I'm hoping to add another Vette to the stable and am looking forward to getting to do that on another Vette purchase one day; it was a fun trip.

Redsoxnation 01-13-2023 04:25 PM

I purchased my first Corvette a 1982 CE from Hobby car Corvettes in PA, in 2/2020, sight unseen and had it delivered. I traded that in 5/2020, for a 2017 C7 with 2K from Corvettes North in Waterville ME. I then traded that in 7/2021. In 8/2022 I purchased a 2005 C6, 21K from Corvettes North in Waterville, ME.

I prefer buying from dealerships, you may pay a little more but they have the paperwork, they change the fluids and do a great job of presenting the vehicle. I would highly recommend both dealerships.

Funny enough, I didn’t notice it until after I posted the video. Hahahah

So most of the things I have corrected since then. That was not one of them though.
I cannot for the life of me get that glue off.
someone that works in a body shop suggested prep solvent pre paint I think it’s called, but I get scared it will screw up the door cards.
I may try it though as while it’s subtle, I have OCD and if you couldn’t tell from my other videos, little imperfections bug me. (Watch the second video of “Did I make an expensive mistake” hahaha. I took alot of flac for my grievances with my car on that video.

BuckeyeRay 01-13-2023 06:42 PM

Local "fly by night" dealer. The price was right, and I made sure I did not have unrealistic expectations of an 83k mile Vette. She's rough around the edges, been rode hard and put away wet, but she's mine. The dealer specialized in sports and sporty cars. As a rule I do not like auction cars, but for the right price I'm willing to take a chance. 4 months in and no real complaints.

In 2015 I found my '08 local on Autotrader, so I was able to check it out, and take it for a test drive. We did the transaction and wire transfer at my local credit union. I called NCM for insurance, and went to AAA for the registration.

I bought mine from Buyavette in Atlanta 4 and 1/2 years ago. A 2005 coupe with 32k on the clock. I paid a bit to much for the car as I was a newbie to the
Corvette world and jumped on the car I liked. I did get a 2 year/50k mile engine and transmission warranty with the car. I am very happy
the car. I would give the dealership a B+ and their in house repair shop an A. The B+ is because they didn't tell me about the harmonic balancer failure issue
and the service column lock issue which I thought they should have fixed before selling the car. (the service column lock)

I bought my 2018 M7 stingray from a dealership in 2021. I've purchased all my Chevrolets' there in the past 38 years.
It had 5,700 miles and I haven't had any issues. I enjoy driving it and looking at it in my garage.

dr_gallup 01-14-2023 11:12 AM

I had been searching online at a bunch of places for ~6 months, I don't remember which site I first found the listing on. But it was at a dealership in AZ. Worked out the details and flew out there with my brother and we spent 6 days driving it back to SC. Great road trip via the Grand Canyon.

FlBoy 01-14-2023 01:33 PM

Found my 427 on Craigslist, it was about 30 miles away. Had 8800 miles. The car is black and the last quarter mile to his house was a dusty dirt road. I think he got tired of trying to keep it clean. That was 4 years ago and the odo reads 11,300 at present.

I love the porno red interior
I got my '06 LT3 Z51 from my uncle's estate last March. I was very close to him. He passed away in Nov, 2021 at 85 years old. It had about 12 miles and I pout on about 5k miles since I got it. I put the black AR wheels with wider tires on it and the red floor mats. The red Genesis belongs to his brother, my dad, who is 88 years young and still is damn fast on the Tail of The Dragon...

Bought my 08 from a gentleman on here in the C6 For Sale section.
We came to terms and a deposit was made to hold it for my inspection. The car was in Portland Oregon.
Made arrangements to fly up and he picked me up at the airport, as he worked nearby. We had a brief chat while looking it over and then a test drive.
Things were as advertised and the funds and paperwork were handled and completed. Below is a picture he took for me before leaving.
So I drove it back home, to Sparks, Nevada.

A big thank you to member CorvetteSparky, for this great ride and use of his plates to get it home.

I purchased my 2014 Stingray from Corvette World in Dallas. Flew out from Florida to pick-up the vet and drove her home.

Pleasurable experience all around - excellent pre-sale communications, helpful salesman, efficient prep work, and a lovely drive home.

Could not have been any better!

Bought mine from a GM dealer in Orangeville Ontario. 2011 GS that had been on their lot for a while, but with the summer over, the price dropped enough to really catch my attention. It checked off all my boxes and had been completely reconditioned. Came with a 3 month warranty. The car was spotless inside and out, no roadrash at all and reasonably low mileage at 21k. When I picked up the car, the sales guy and their Corvette mechanic went through everything with me, so there were no surprises. Nothing has gone wrong with it up to this point 5+ years later other than my having to zip-tie the yellow connector under the driver’s seat.

Bought the Black one from a dealer in Milwaukee , my GF and I flew there , they picked us up, I gave them a check , they gave me keys, I started it up , she got in and we drove it home to Seattle.thru the Black Hills and Yellowstone.
Bought the Torch Red one from a Dealer in Lawrence Kansas... we flew there , they picked us up at airport, I gave them a Check, they gave me the keys, I started it up and GF got in and I heard the sound from the NPP exhaust was too loud, so I shut it off, asked GF to get out all while the two Big wig sales guys are standing there, I pull down the passenger floor panel, see the Npp Exhaust fuse was out, so I took it from the stored place and installed it, replaced the floor panel, got in started it up and now it is quiet. The two Big Wig sales guys asked -" what the hell did you do" I replied with a smile " installed the fuse in the exhaust system" Wow wish I had a photo of their faces... they had no idea. Loved it... we drove it home to Seattle. Both are in the Garage looking very good.

Bought my 427 Anniversary brand new from Criswell's in Maryland (but not from Mike Furman). Took a ride to LOOK at the new 427's that were on the lot, got there, and discovered they were open. Had an 02 Z06 that I drove down. Well, the one that we thought we wanted, we didn't like. And they had 2 427 Anniversary verts on the lot. First one we test drove broke down before we left the lot! Ended up getting a good deal on the Z, and drove home with the new one. Still only have about 18K on the odometer. No regrets.

Just watched a video today of someone buying a Corvette through Carvana. The vending machine was pretty cool, never seen anything like that before.

4SUMERZ 01-14-2023 10:45 PM

I searched for about 6 months on all sites, AutoTrader, Ebay, etc. and found one with all the options on Auto Trader. It was listed at Bud's Chevy from St. Mary's Ohio.
I had them take tons of pictures, inside, out, undercarriage, and they sent them to me. It was a used low mileage, and I decided to send them a down payment, then over the week following, sent a bank transfer, paperwork purolated back and forth to get the reistration in my name. I flew in to Daytona, where they had someone waiting for me to drive me to pick up the car in St. Mary's.
It was exactly as pictured. I drove off the lot, and made my way back home in a few days and over 1250 miles. That was 13 years, and over 100,000 miles ago. Nov 25- 124K miles

I hear ya there.. both of mine are factory stock - not one thing is different than how they arrived. Hate all those supposedly UPGRADES people talk about.. when most of the time they are DOWNGRADES. Good luck on the purchase.,.. great buy !

I bought mine from Boardwalk Chevrolet in Redwood City, CA, which is about 15 miles from my home. I had visited another Chevrolet dealership earlier, but I had to attend their moonlight madness sale to get the best price. Boardwalk had all Corvettes at $7,000 off MSRP. It was the easiest car buying experience I ever had, and the most excited I have ever been about buying a car.

FatChance 01-16-2023 07:25 PM

I found my C6 (my first Corvette) at a Chevy dealership in Northern Michigan late last September through Car Gurus, after looking online for several months. It was a 2006 C6 base coupe, 38k miles, Velocity Yellow/Titanium, A6, 3LT, HUD, F55, CD/Nav Bose stereo, clean Carfax, factory stock and unmodified, excellent condition, oil/filter already changed, exactly what I was looking for. The dealership was even displaying it on their showroom floor as it presented so well.

We worked out the deal and I had their shop (on my dime) flush and service the transmission, coolant, differential, brakes, new air filters, test the battery and charging system and do one of their 50 point condition checks (they found and fixed a loose exhaust hanger). The salesman, dealership owner and service manager were professional and great to deal with.

Then I bought a one way ticket and flew up to Traverse City. They had a driver pick me up, drove me to the dealer, and I examined the car and it was better than described. One tire had low air pressure and they dismounted it and resealed the bead. The passenger door pressure switch didn't work, they didn't have a new one in stock and they wrote me a $150 check to buy one myself (my suggestion). They put on a 30 day temporary tag so it was fully legal to drive. I got in the car, connected my GPS and radar detector, and drove it 2100 wonderful trouble-free miles home to Sedona, AZ. Since then, I have added Lloyd floor mats, a NOCO battery charger/maintainer, Viair tire inflator, replaced the CD/Nav with a modern JVC head unit and am fully enjoying it throughout beautiful Central Arizona. Love the C6!

Now if we are talking about our FIRST Vette, I bought an 02 Z06 brand new, and sight unseen from Potamkin Chevy/Cadillac in Manhattan, about 5 years short of retirement at 58. At that time, Chevy was offering zero percent financing on all new Corvette sales so finding a Z06 anywhere was hard to do. But my wife was online checking dealerships all over, and we found a black Z06 with the modified red and black interior at Potamkin. Called them the next day, answered some questions, Fed Ex'd the paperwork back and forth, and within about 5 days, it arrived on a rollback to my front door with 6 miles on the OD. Could have paid cash for it, but opted to make payments and collect the interest myself! Payments were over $1400 a month for 3 years, It was a great car, and we all know that feeling of our "first" Vette. Didn't stop smiling for months.

First Corvette was a black 1990 and I bought it from a relative’s neighbor in another state. It had 78,000 miles and a computer that was going bad. The headlights did not flip up sometimes. The horn did not work. I drove it for 13 years. I bought my second Corvette from Carmax: a 2017 silver Stingray with 1,100 miles in 2020. The list price was $46,000 and I recently sold it back to Carmax for $42,500. A few months after I got the Stingray, I bought a 2013 red Corvette with a black interior from a dealership in another state that I found through the Capital One website. I had both cars at the same time for over 1.5 years. As time went by, I realized I enjoyed driving the red Corvette more and I still have that. All three came with manual transmissions. I recently bought a new diesel tractor with a front-end loader and I thoroughly enjoy operating that and carrying heavy things with it. It will be great for snow removal. I may eventually buy a blue or black C6 and keep the red one. I doubt I will buy another C7 and I am 100 percent sure I could not tolerate the sight of a C8 parked in my driveway.

puterami 01-17-2023 10:03 AM

Found my C6 on Autotrader three years ago. Private owner/listing.
08, MN6, 3LT, Z51, NPP with Z06-style rims and a couple of other small mods (M2W switch, skip shift eliminator, LED lights including Eagle Eye rears). Darn near perfect shape. 70K miles for $20K.
It was in Detroit. I flew with a friend from Huntsville, AL, and we drove it back over a couple of days.

I have owned 9 Corvettes. All acquired from private sales.

Bought my 1st Corvette in 2006, a 1965 Convertible 4 speed Stingray and my brother had to drive it the 350 miles home cause I'm 6'5" and couldn't shift it without my leg hitting the steering wheel. I ended up putting in an original option telescopic steering column so I could drive it :)

I got "The Corvette Fever" after the 65.
Corvettes In order of purchase after the 65...

1981 with a ZZ3 crate motor and worked 350 auto trans. Local purchase from Craigslist.
1999 C5 Black/Black 6 speed coupe. Flew to Chicago and drove it home to LI, NY. Was a Corvette Forum purchase.
2008 C6 Black/Black 2LT 6 speed coupe. Local purchase from Craigslist
1996 C4 White/Black Convertible LT4 6 speed. Local purchase from a friend of a friend.
1970 Coupe 4 speed 350/350 Blue/Blue, all original 60k mile car. Local purchase from a Corvette flipper.
2009 C6 CGM Coupe, 3LT, Z51, Auto. Local purchase from a friend of a friend.
2007 C6 MRM Coupe, 3LT, Auto. Somewhat local purchase from FB marketplace.
2008 C6 White Convertible 3LT Auto. My current Corvette. Purchased 250 miles away in south Florida and drove it home to North Florida. FB marketplace.

In between these Corvettes I had also purchased 3 El Caminos.
1968 White/Black SS396 highly optioned rotisserie restoration. Local Craigslist.
1972 Red/Black SS454 with a small block. Original engine was gone. Local Craigslist.
1968 Green/Black Custom with a small block. Craigslist, shipped from Alabama.

I've only made a few "Stealership" car purchases in my lifetime which all involved the usual dealership BS.
I prefer private sales.

He informed me that the gentleman was returning the car because he couldnt make the payments. We worked out a deal and I picked it up on Valentines day 2006. It was one of the first Z06s made buiit in May 2005. I got it with 1303 miles.....now has 39,500 miles. 17 years

Got mine from a corvette only dealer near Atlanta not more than 6 months ago. Car was a trade to a dealer in houston and went to the auction where these guys found it. They even took it over to LSXperts to make sure the tune and everything was perfect before letting me take it home.
Cam, Intake, Longtubes, and catless corsa system and it puts down 500whp. Not to shabby.

Bought mine in May, 2010 from a gentleman who was wheelchair-bound from a motorcycle accident. He had no use of his legs and limited use of his upper body. He bought the car new ($52K plus) fully optioned out. He had the car converted to hand controls only, I removed them for him prior to the sale. He was selling because he and his wife were having a baby and he was buying a wheel chair accessible van for his new family. Car was mint and had only 10,508 miles on it in 5 years, I paid $30K for it. I've had it for 13 trouble free years, the car now has 42K miles on it. The longest I've ever owned any car...I'd like to buy newer but with the insanity in the Corvette market this will probably be my first and last Corvette!

Lived in that house for over 30 years. Sold most of the cars I had at the time for the down payment. Two 68 Camaro's (one was a convertible RS), 67 Cougar XR7 (wife's car with a 289 'A' code engine), 1970 Plymouth Sport Gran Coupe with a 383.
Rented a house not to far from Carman Ave. just on the other side of Newbridge Rd. The house I bought was just off of Jerusalem Ave near the Green.

Purchased my 08 base 3lt vert in 2018 at a used dealer, IQ Autos, for $25k out the door. Assholes turned my test drive into a overnight loaner, ensuring the sale. Good experience. Found it on CarGurus site when looking for a cheap manual convertible. :auto:

I wanted a place to buy a C5 Corvette with chromed original wagon wheels fitted... Those are next to impossible to find. 😕... and when one does.. either they are not chromed or destroyed... Guess I'm stuck with every Corvette on the planet with aftermarket. 😢

I left Long Island 15 years ago, have never looked back. I was back there a while ago and everything looked old and dirty.Great place to grow up. I now live in Georgia where I can drive my car all year round.

Love these stories, keep them coming!
I got mine, my first, an 06 base 3LT by searching relentlessly for that right mix of color, price, options, mileage. Found it on cargurus a few states away at a Chevy dealer in PA. Great to deal with, honest about the car, my wife and I flew in and drove it home.
the only hiccup was getting it registered, the dealer used some third party service that took a while, so as someone previously mentioned, it's better to do it yourself if at all possible.

A lot of Nassau county is now similar to Queens. I retired in March and I had enough of the NY taxes, politics and winters. I left in September and moved to St John's, FL. Sold my 07 coupe before I left and bought the 08 convertible which had 19k miles on it after I got here. Also sold my wife's 98 Mustang (which we bought new in 98) before we left NY. It had 60k miles on it when we sold it. Bought her a 2014 Convertible Mustang with 30k miles on it after I bought the 08 Corvette. She likes Mustangs
I should have left NY years ago. Better late than never!

Just bought my first, a 2011 GS Coupe 3LT Heritage Ed. in Switchblade Silver from Carvana of all places. Had been looking nationally for about a month and found this car with only 13K miles. Had it shipped to a local Carvana and then had my local Chevy dealership check it out thoroughly. Great car, looks new inside and out. I found Carvana was good to work with. Bought mine in Jan 2020 from Carmax. 09 vert, 4LT, M6, 23k miles for $23,900. Can't find anything close to that now. Value now is more than I paid for it and I've added 16k miles.https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.cor...e79a2a9a65.jpg

I bought mine from Carvana in June 2021. I had searched high and low, and no dealer had what I was looking for in the state; the closest thing was a 2008 Z06 in yellow, but I wasn't ready to take the chance with those LS7 valve-dropping issues.

No trade-in, no financing, straight cash deal. $59,980 MSRP . -$9,729 Dealer Discount . -$750 USAA Cash Back . = . $49,501 out the door (17.5% off MSRP) + Florida tax, title and plates once I drove the car down to Florida and registered it there. https://www.macmulkin.net/________________________ The car now has 26,000 miles on it ... and a few 'extra parts' installed . .

Beautiful car!

I bought mine new from a dealer in Edina, MN when I lived up in that area. It was June, 2009 and that was when Barrack Obama was the General in General Motors. Inventories were very low, dealers were closing their doors, most dealers had few Vettes, if any. This dealer was staying open, but my '09 was the last Vette they had. As it turns out, it was exactly the spec I was looking for. It was meant to be.

That is one nice-looking car! I love the narrow bodies they look so much sleeker than wide bodies.

I got mine in 2008 from a small dealership in New Jersey. Incidentally it’s owned the the gentleman on the left in the pic. Nice guy and really knows his stuff as you can imagine. https://www.pumpkincars.com

Bought mine from a great guy on Craigslist. I happened to be at the right place at the right time and was the first one to inquire. I used AutoTempest to search which I've since found numerous cars on. Really handy site.
