250 for an oil change on the GS today!!!

I did a triple take!! :willy::rofl:!!! I mean, it had been a while since i did one at the Chevy dealer and back then it was something like 100 bucks. Man, apparently the prices have gone up!!! Next time I do it myself. On a bright note ,the weather was great for a February day in the Northeast and there was a 1600 mile 13 ZR1 out back waiting for an oil change or something. Gorgeous car.

R&L's C6 02-27-2024 06:23 PM

Next time don't forget to bring the KY along:rofl:.......

PMPerformance 02-27-2024 06:26 PM

That’s wild not confirming a price before service.

The Former 02-27-2024 06:27 PM

I'm sure they checked the car thoroughly as great tech centers do. There is a price on that. It's not cheap.

Hoping that was built into price! I think I paid 130 - 140 at the dealer a year or so ago.

sramzzz 02-27-2024 07:29 PM

Dealer’s rates are ridiculous these days. I avoid at all costs. Lesson learned on not asking for a price.

had my 2010 coupe’s oil changed at the dealer today as well. Mobil one as always. Final charge was $107.12. I had a $25 gift card from the dealer and $44.00 on my Chevy rewards so final cost was $38.00 and some change.

flyingbunnys 02-27-2024 08:34 PM

49.95 at my local shop. 94.95 full synthetic

Was much cheaper 4 years ago...

Only if the GS is a Dry Sump——-requires 10.5 qts

JABCAT 02-27-2024 09:00 PM

11 qts of oil is ~$60, the filter is $10. OP got hosed. The only oil changes I ever get at the dealer are those that free & included in my complimentary maintenance programs. All others are done by me.

Dry sump GS has two drain plugs to remove, two! That's worth $250 easily.

:iagree: My kids learned how to do maintenance on our vehicles at 10. I'm always amazed when people go to the dealer for routine items & then get fleeced on top of it. My son bought himself a very nice 2-owner '03 Jeep Wrangler last year for his 14th b-day, and he's been modifying that as well so it'll be the way he wants it by the time he gets his license

I had a 2006 machine silver manual Convertible that I took to the dealer for the first oil change. They tore up the driver"s side rocker panel. After that, I started doing my own servicing. Six quarts of Mobil 1, 5W30 is about $35 at Walmart and $5 for the PF-48.

I do my own oil change on my vette as it has an extra couple quarts of oil capacity due to the dual coolers and i like to run redline, but even when i asked the dodge dealer about an oil change for my 2022 RAM 1500, they told me 165 bucks. absolutely wild the oil change prices now. I'll be doing that myself too i guess.

Honda dealer quoted my ex-GF $4,465 for work on her Civic. I am doing it all for her for $486 and 6 hours of my time.

Fortunately my new GF is ok with it. We all shared a bottle of wine last night when she dropped it off.

But the ex must have been a little cloudy as she borrowed my Jeep for her 30-mile drive home and realized she left her house key with the Honda.

Long drive back to get it.

Which illustrates the point, why would anyone take their vehicle to the dealer for something as simple as an oil change.

I'm sure they have walmart down there, what's stopping anyone from walking in and paying $60 for oil & $10 for a filter (or $30 for oil if you only need 5.5 qt)?

baxsom 02-28-2024 09:32 AM

As a Chevy tech who spent time in the lube lane that 13 dollar an hour C tech that did your oil change is just happy he didn’t drop it off the lift.

Jim Terry 02-28-2024 09:39 AM

I get the Mobil 1 oil on sale at Costco and have done all my own oil changes. The 2013 I have now, you can reach from the left side, don't even have to crawl under it like my '01.

Mobil 1 bag in a box from Walmart. It's cheaper than Costco, and way more convenient than a butt load of 1qt bottles. Try it and you'll never go back. I only buy bag in a box oil now, the Mobil 1 and super tech even has a nice little spigot on it. It's truly one of the best innovations in car upkeep.

VetteVinnie 02-28-2024 11:13 AM

My guy who did the oil changes on my 2008 Z06 always put the car on a lift to disconnect and drain the oil lines to the dry sump tank. He was very thorough, so it was worth the $200+. I also used Redline fluids in that car exclusively. But $250 at a dealer for a standard oil change? No way I'd pay that.

Yup, should have appended the "/s"

To take my car to a place I trust to do the 'simple' job of changing the oil would take me more time than doing it myself, not to mention the expense. Plus it's a good excuse to crawl around under the car and look for any issues.

DrKrieger 02-28-2024 12:15 PM

With my S/C'd LS-7 powered narrow body......no dry sump, engine transplant, F4 oil pan, so 6 quarts of oil. I stay away from the stealer-ship at all costs....because of their costs. I change my own oil. Mobile one from Walmart, and AC/Delco filters bought on sale about 2 years ago (bought 5) at $5.59 ea, I can change my oil for around $40. I do have a lift which makes it easy and quick. $250 for an oil change on a GS? That's a crime! Even at $120 for an oil change on a non-GS or ZO6 creates close to a $80 profit for the stealer-ship as they buy oil in bulk and pay less than what you and I can buy it for, along with the lower cost for oil filters. Just my thoughts. Also,I understand that most people don't have the availability of a lift and it makes it much more difficult to change their own oil which places them in a "have to go'" somewhere to get their oil changed.

TripleB5832 02-28-2024 01:54 PM

Agree...I change all the fluids in all my vehicles. Purchase Mobil 1 at Costco, get some quality filters to on hand. Seems like I'm always changing oil (have 3 kids, 6 cars); taught the kids how to do it as well. Add in brake work along with the fluid changes, I've already gotten my return on investment for the 4 post lift (which makes it enjoyable actually).

jrose7004 02-28-2024 02:22 PM

That's mainly why that I stay out of dealerships. The instant oil change place less than a mile from my house charges $110.00 using Mobil One.

Lights ZR1 02-28-2024 03:41 PM

12 qt box of Mobil 1 5W-30 at Walmart - $59
ACDelco UPF48R filter - maybe $10

Both drain plugs and oil lines removed = 11.75 qts to replace. I use almost the entire box.

Do it yourself if you can get under the car safely. Most dealers cannot fill the dry sump correctly. The one time my dealer did it, it was about 3/4 qt overfilled, no harm no foul though.

jaki30 02-28-2024 07:34 PM

Just ordered another Jack and pair of Jack stands.
I haven’t changed my own oil since 1990.
However, just got an estimate of $700 to change my M7 and differential fluids.
Coupled with my last oil change for $165, no longer feel the service is worth it.
I drive my 1less than 100 miles a month. Hope to save a couple bucks and learn more
about my car.

My kids are young, but my point is just that you chose to see something in a negative light for no reason. Instead of seeing "wow, kids learning to do things and bonding with their dad, how nice" you chose to be a negative dork about it.

Not at all how I meant it and that's on you for taking it that way and deciding to criticize me and call me names right off the cuff instead of using your brain to think about where I would be coming from. It's not weird at all and actually very common for kids not to want their picture taken and shared on the internet for a bunch of random guys to look at.
If you want to look at other peoples kids on a sports car forum (which is super weird and creepy), take things WAY out of context and call people names on the internet, go for it. You do you.
Someone can easily say that they have their kids help work on their cars without posting pic's for a bunch of old dudes to gawk at.

The dry sump GS takes 10-11 QT’s. With Amsoil at a local performance shop it’s over $200, majority of the cost is oil. Plus it’s 1/2 hour of labor, which now days is $120-160 an hour at most shops.

Yes brakes, bunnies are notoriously bad spellers. They are so easy to do yourself though, not worth $800.

Next time I do it myself. On a bright note ,the weather was great for a February day in the Northeast and there was a 1600 mile 13 ZR1 out back waiting for an oil change or something. Gorgeous car.

Maybe checkout so many of the quality independents around you ? Such as Pep Boys, Gatos, Firestone. Or talk to the local corvette club and get some local advice.
oil and filter is not rocket science.

Only in my fantasy................

But the ex must have been a little cloudy as she borrowed my Jeep for her 30-mile drive home and realized she left her house key with the Honda.

Long drive back to get it.

Did it dawn on you that maybe she wanted to spend the night with you two??

I bring my oil and filter and my Chevy dealer charges me 20 bucks and the Corvette Tech does it for me....So I'm out 55 ish...Hell Honda charges 40 now just for labor....Oil changes there have went from 52 to 82 just in the last year or so...Probably going to let my Chevy dealer start doing them too...
