Who will ignore the column lock recall?
Just got mine in the mail, now I like my dealership but all they have done is regular services in which I can wait for the car. The car is running great so I don't know. So what are you gonna do, let the dealer have at it or pass.

Uh... pass! Easy choice for me. I'm not letting them anywhere near my PCM. :D
|
I filed both my notices!
Did the CLB. :D |
recall
Will not let Dealer touch my Corvette ! Save the Wave.>George
|
If I had an A4, I would take it in because they disable the cl. But, with an M6, I can't see any benefit except for documentation purposes in a class-action or liability suit . . .
My CLB stays. :yesnod: |

:iagree: :iagree: besides I put in the CLB back in March. |
I have the CLB (I think.... the column NEVER locks) - so there is absolutely no reason why I'd want someone goofin' around with my PCM. Not to mention that I'd rather not take my car in there and have them give it a suntan (let it sit out in the sun all day, and then spend 5 minutes at the end of the day before the leave). :leaving:
|
I've got an appointment with my dealer to have the recall done later this month. (Plus now I can have my new Vette Essentials two-tone steering wheel put on for free! :willy:) I have an A4 and I don't have the CLB so its a no-brainer. If I had a 6-speed though, I'd have to pass. I have a specially tuned PCM that I wouldn't want it screwed up.
|
I'll pass.
|
Pass
|
Pass.... I have the CLB.
|
Do not ignore the recall. Get it done and recorded. And if you already haven't installed a by-pass then do so right after the recall is applied.
Recalls expire at some point and that could hurt you when it comes time to sell the car. I know if I were buying a used car I'd wwant to know "if have all the recalls been applied"? I already have a by-pass and plan on having my dealer do the recall. Tom |
The only thing I want is the fix they have for the pinging problems and the fuel guage, their column lock recall they can wear over to their mothers house because it will not be in my car.
|
I did...CLB 4 + years ago..no more worries
|
Goin to send them my bill for the CLB and be a PIA.
:D |
I had the second recall done while it was in for other warranty work (first one was done before I bought my Z). That was Friday...Saturday, I installed my Predator tune (capturing the factory PCM data) and Sunday the CLB went in. I have the latest PCM flash as well as no more chances with the CLB installed.
|
With my mod motor and dyno tune (reprogram of computer) the fix won't take on my 00 M6 according to Service Manager. Passing, car nearly 5 yrs old. Roll the dice! Said recall notice is good forever.

supposedly my '04 z16 had it done before i picked it up in May 04.
|
My entire locking assembly has been removed...long ago when the CL
first started showing up in 99' and 2000. That was even before the CLB was offered. I did get the Recall papers in the mail last week though. |
I have a CLB so I'm good, no recall dealer visit for me. :ack:
|
I've got the CLB installed, but I plan to take it back off, get the recall done, then put it back on. I want it done for documentation purposes and my car has no special programming done to it. Besides, my dealer has done good work on my car.
|
Pass! :D
|
Right now I am leaning towards letting the dealer do it. The local dealer has some good Vette techs that work on the Scottsdale Corvette Club. Always scary to let them touch it.
|
My dealer has a bunch of bungling dopes workin' there.
I've had the bypass in for almost 4 years...I've filed the recall notice for now. Almost forgot to mention the name of the bungling dealership that resulted in a trip to the paint booth for my car. Paul Massey Chevrolet in East Providence, RI. |

Along with the colum lock comes an improved knock detection routine and a fix for the gas guage readings. |
CLB..shredded that recall....my car don't knock and my gas gauge is accurate...if it ain't broke don't fix it....
|
clb
Got the recall letter last week. Put the CLB I had sitting around for 2 months on Saturday.
Will not be taking it to the General! :seeya |
Mine went in the trash the day I got it.
|
My car is at the dealer now! Went there on a roll back!

I haven't decided one way or another yet. But I'll probably get it done.

CLB ordered. Had too many negative experiences with dealers (one in particular ended up costing 66 hours of rework) to even entertain the idea of taking it in. Had my mind made up long before the recall came out.
If I can do it - it'll get done. If I can't - it won't. |
I thought about it, no way will I let them fool with my car!
|
I'll pass. I installed the CLB early on and will NOT reverse it!!!!
|
I got mine done
I took the car in at 8:am and was done by 9:am. It was not bad because the mechanic already did so many lately that He could do it in His sleep. On My 1998 automatic He just removed the pin and replaced the wire harness with part # 88952427 K 2.195 so now it is done.
From what I was told, Every C-5 Corvette ever sold is going to be re-called for this fix. The 97's and 98's did not have the problem as bad as the 2000 and later seem to have. I never had any problem with my steering wheel ever locking up. I would suggest getting it done because if You do not You would be responsable if involved in an accident caused by not doing A reasonable request on A safty issue. |
Normally I would agree; however, there is not a single documented instance of an incident caused by the column not unlocking and someone driving away in that condition. Additionally, the so called "fix" for the MN6 does not prevent the column from locking - only shuts off the fuel to the engine when it does lock.
What's the difference if driving at 60 mph and the column locks and the engines shuts off or not? Probably "safer" to have the engine running - at least you'd have power brakes. No recall for me - install CLB. |
