Two probs with my new car....

Hey guys,

I just picked up my 2001 vette this weekend and drove it all the way home from Illinois to Florida. I noticed two things that I don't like.

1. My turn signals stopped working until I tapped the dash area where the hazard signal switch is. Then they started working again.

2. When I am taking off slow in first gear, when the clutch starts to engage all the way until 4-5 secs after I've got my foot completely off the clutch pedal I hear a "rattling" noise. Is this my throw out bearing? Do they tend to be noisy in these cars?

Any help here would be appreciated.

Ron

No personal experience but turn signal problems and the
hazard switch do not seem to be unusual. From the posts
I have seen the solution is to replace the switch.
Rattling noise often refered to as marbles in a can
is normal. Don't worry about it. Enjoy. They are great cars.

Ok, if you say the rattle is normal I will accept it, but it still bugs me out. It sounds like the tranny is going to shake and fall out.

My 01 only rattles when i shut the car off with the clutch out.
If you dont want to hear the rattle noise at shut down hold the clutch in when you shut her down..

My 2004 did that from mile one.

Normal

Mine also makes that noise when you shut the car off with the clutch out... from what I've seen on here it's normal and I've never had any problems with it.

Mine doesn't make any noise when I turn it off. Only when moving from a stop in first gear???

My 2000 coup does this quite often. It was so common that in the videos they give out when you purchase a new Vette they talk about how you should not be concerned... High Performance Engine meets High Performance Tranny... Don't be worried about the noise & get the switch replaced!

I hear that's inherent in M6 set ups. :(

you're engaging the clutch at too low of an RPM .. you kinda have to ride the clutch a little. Bring it up above 1g (around 1500) and ride 1st gear out a little, basically just make sure the rpm doesn't drop below 1000.

as for shutting off the car: as stated in the owners manual reverse with the clutch in is the method suggested

The "marbles in a can" rattle as it is often is referred to is quite common for cars with the Mn6 and is covered in the instructional video that came with some model year C5s. The instructional video that came with my '03 vert says it's inherent in the design of the rear mounted transaxle and even plays the sound for one to hear. Our car did it when new, but this has diminished over time. We very seldom hear it anymore.

However, we never experience the transmisson shake as you describe it. This you may want to have looked at.

There has been any number of threads here in the past on this subject. You may be able to find many more using the Forum search feature if it is now working as it should. Here one that is currently going around in the C5 Tech section:

Rattling noise when letting out clutch in 1st

Good luck with yours. :yesnod:
