I think 2 possibilities.
1-it's the intake for the PCV system. You can put an open element breather in the valve cover. 2-it's the vacuum hose for the power brake booster which you need. If so it should plug on the manifold or carb base. |
okkkkkkkkk.....next thought is the vent hose from the gas tank fume thingie that's located below the master cylinder on the inner fender. If that's right, you do want it plugged into vacuum.

I wonder if it is a hose coming from your charcoal canister up to the air filter or to the carb (needing a vacuum port in that case...) Time to look at an accurate vacuum hose diagram for your car...

Josh,
Can you post a picture? There are miles of vacuum hoses on the '81 and vary in necesity from trivial (cruise control) to vital (power brake). Your loose hose is probably one of these. :D |
the hose you speak of is a vacuum hose, it conencts to the thermostatic vacuum switch for the thermac valve in the snorkel.

This hose isn't attached to a vacuum source, just plugs into the base of the filter housing. I could just leave it unplugged if I wanted to. I'm guessing that it is drawing in filtered air for some reason. Anyone know where to get a vacuum hose diagram for my car? thanks |
Josh, Josh, Josh....
If you can ....try and start posting some pics on your questions... I am sure your going to post often with your new "to you" corvette and i am willing to give you everything I have to make your corvette run better. but to get accurate answers to your questions you might have to start taking some pictures and posting your situation your in? Many Thanks, Jim |
Most of the open element air filters have a plastic elbow included, that bolts to the base plate, for you to plug the hose into. You simply punch out a pre-formed area that the elbow bolts to. Check to see if the one your looking at has it.
