Front ride height - finally at 27.25" --- new photos

Just installed my new 550lbs coil springs today - ride height is at 27.25" (floor to fender lip @ center of wheel) with 255-60-15 tires.

I hope the springs don't settle too much, haven't driven the car yet.... :)

Congrats on an acceptable ride height, you are a rare breed. Are those VPB or others ? I hope they are because that is what I installed on my '80. It will be another 1 to 2 months before my car touches the ground for the big test. Brent

Yes VBP - I ordered on Monday and received the springs today.... great service, fast shipping

Just like they told me on the phone : 27.25" without cutting anything off the spring

I like my cars a bit lower, call me crazy yours looks awesome and it should handle amazingly, but Im more of the 25.5-26" sorta crowd

FeedVaal 03-09-2005 09:32 PM

Isn't it great when a plan works out?

bob2169 03-09-2005 09:39 PM

awesome dude. What do you use for the rear leaf spring? I am thinking about replacing mine to a 460# front. I am till deciding and researching on the rear leaf springs. awesome

The rear spring is a re-arched steel spring with 8" bolts - email me if you want my 460lbs springs.

Me too.Mine is at 26.5 in the front, after cutting half a coil off original FE7 springs.Run P255-60-15's with no rubbing. 115,000 original miles.

Pardon my ignorance, but can someone explain how an installed spring with a higher spring rate causes a car to ride lower? I would figure the opposite to be true.

Thanks,

The higher spring rate springs are shorter with less coils than a stock spring. :) Boing

I do wonder what the height will be with a Big Block in there hmmmm. Any thoughts on that one?

When you do finally drive it, tell us if you notice any difference in the ride.

Gordonm 03-10-2005 07:15 AM

Here is a picture of 460s (left) and 550s (right). You can see the difference in height.

And they don't rub lock to lock?

of course they do - that's one reason why I don't drive the car :willy:

They hit the front of the fender when turning, I guess I have to remove the 1" spacer or install 245-60 tires instead.... I really don't want to cut fiberglass to make it fit...
