Russell Speed Bleeders
 

I bought a set of Russell speed bleeders, #639560 10mm in size. I removed the OEM bleeder from my 1988 caliper and installed on of these speed bleeders.

I can't get the bleeder to seat. Was I sold the wrong one or ???

Has anyone else used these and ran into trouble?

It appears the end that's inside of the caliper is more pointed on the Russell bleeder than the OEM bleeder.

I just installed new rotors and pads and thought I'd have it made by being able to change the fluid without a 2nd person's help.

here's a bump for ya, but the ones i have are from speedbleeder.com, size SB1010, and should be the same as yours. they fit fine. sorry, can't speak for the Russell's.

There's another thread going on were it was stated that they had problems with seating the Russel's went to Speedbleeder's and had no seating problem. :cheers:

I saw that message and I'm going to return these Russells and buy the Speed Bleeder brand.

The Russells tip that does the seal is more pointed then the OEM bleeders so it won't seat and leaks.

Thanks tempest.. I can speak for the Russells, they end that seats inside of the caliper is more pointed than the OEM bleeders and it won't seat do the bleeder leaks. I'm going to order a set of speed bleeder brand.

I just tried the Russell bleeders and they leaked.
I'm returning them today.

It's weird cause I had them super tight but still...
Fluid everywhere.

By part # I don't believe your bleeders are correct. Yes they're M10 X 1.0 but the part # for C4's is a 639630. The difference could only be seen and compared if you had both side by side. You mentioned the taper seemed incorrect - is the taper of the different part #'s different? I wouldn't think so.

Perhaps you could point out the thread!

My understanding is that the bleeders that Russell sells are made for them by Speed Bleeder.

Not sure about the C4 versions but I replaced the ones on my C5 with Russell when I upgraded the brakes and had no problems whatsoever. The come highly recommended. Could you have gotten the wrong ones?

I didn't like the design of the Speed Bleeder brand that uses the threads to seal air out.

I use the Earl's "Solo Bleeds", which uses a spring and plunger design to seal air out. Works Awesome!!!...

This WKND I tred the Russell 639630 comparable to Speed Bleeders suggested shorter SB1010S and they were indeed to short and leaked all the way tight.

They could have used a few more threads.

I then tried Russell 639560 comparable to Speed Bleeders longer SB1010
And they fit great on my C5 brakes.

By the way my OEM bleeders came out the same size front and rear.

Russell bleeders are awesome!

I used them combined with my Motive bleeder. The two combined saves me the beer of a helper lol.
