no help here either - on my cats on my 85 it was a tube that was WELDED to the cat

You are looking for the pipe that runs from the engine bay (A.I.R. pump system) down to the cat?
'Fraid that would be a dealer only item...or salvage yard.

I believe the part you are referring to is part of the cat. It is on my 84.

I cut the flares off and used some sheet metal rolled up to fit around the joint. A couple of small hose clamps cinches it down and forms tightly around the pipes, voila!!! You're done. Next time I need to disconnect it, I just loosen one hose clamp and it slips apart.

The part I think you're referring to is a ring that fits on the flared joints. A crimp tool is used to crimp the ring around the flare joints to hold it together. It's usually a one-shot deal but could be re-used if you're able to pry it open and crimp it back down with some creative vise grip tool crimping. The after market cats that I've seen don't have the flare, it's just a straight tube coming out of it. That's why a lot of them are welded.
