So this Mustang wants to race me.....
Before you go all lock happy, this isn't a street racing story.
Two of my friends work at a local car dealership, they both drive Third-Gen Camaros. One of their co-workers owns a 94 or 95 Mustang. We were all out at the track the other night and Mr. Mustang said to me "my car will take a 200 shot right?" I told him yep, sure will, ONCE. About a week later Mr. Mustang has installed a nitrous kit with 100hp jets. He proceeded to blow a head gasket the first time he ever engaged the nitrous. He chose to ignore that and race anyway. In addition he swapped out the 100 jets for a 150 setup. Well he made one pass that resulted in a 13.90 and holes in the top of two of his pistons. Now he goes to buy a new motor from some dude. It's supposed to be a FMS block, completely forged, etc. I was talking to one my friends at the dealership the other day and Mr. Mustang asked me if I was going out to the track so that he could show me what the back of a Mustang looked like. OK, whatever. I told him that when he had a timeslip better than 12.73 or faster than 116 MPH that he could talk all the trash he wanted, until that time I had nothing to prove. It's finals week, I don't have time. I didn't go to the track but Mr. Mustang did. On full out racing slicks, I'm not talking about drag radials, I mean wrinkle wall, bias ply, tube filled, SLICKS, he ran a 14.1 Don't know about you guys but I'm shaking in my boots. Whats the worst smack talk you've ever got? |
   "I wanna show you what the back of a Mustang looks like"   YOu should have responded with "Okay... it's rare that I ever see those. I'll just walk out to the parking lot and get a long hard look at it since I won't be seeing it from the windshield of my car"
|
Sounds like he's got more money than brains.

My buddy smack-talks my Vette all the time. "That car is slow, handles like arse" blah blah blah.
He has a Miata he DOESN'T have modded at all, with STOCK suspension, (the the thing is beat to hell). He always seems to forget that he doesn't have anything even close to my car before he talks about it's limitations. ; ) -Joe |
Any to answer the question posed, the WORST was a friend of a friend. He's got a '70 (or '71) Camaro with a ZZ4, mild cam, carb and whatnot. He came to my new-years party and started talkin' down about my Vette. : ) I asked him what his best ET was, he said 13.x (I don't remember, maybe a 13.2). I told him I'd run him when my car was all back together.
I'm shooting for (and should easily get) a sub-12.5 : ) |
With this supposed new motor, slicks and a 150 shot of the juice he ran a 14.1???? Sounds like he needs to practice his reaction times as much as he needs to mod that Ford.
Well.... I guess thats not too far off. I was thinking witha good launch he should be int he 13's... 14.1 is pretty close. Instead of hoping for instant HP bolted on in a bottle, he should start looking at other things... heads, cam, ect ect... Parts for those 5.0s are a dime a dozena nd if he knew what he was doing, he could build a pretty menacing combination with that car. But then.... it doesn't sound like he knows what he's doing :D |
I think the 14.1 might have been N/A. If that's the case then he might come near me with a 150 shot but still nothing to particularly brag about.
Of course he'll blow it up again trying most likely. |
...not to metion your times would be much lower w/ a set of drag radials.

First On Race Day.... right? HA!

I'm shooting for (and should easily get) a sub-12.5 : ) If it were easy, we'd all be doing it. :nono: Everybody talks big, even those of us on this forum. That's all it is though, and only a few can back it up. Larry code5coupe |
Agreed. I run an 11 second MPH, but the best I've ever run is a 12.73. No matter how much I would like it to be an 11 second car I can only say its a 12 second car. I think that's what happens when you put an 11 second car together with a 14 second driver :)
Actually my clutch is on it's way out now, I can't even get into the 12's easily. The one thing I do have though is the timeslip, something many a trash talkers don't have. |

i hate mustangs. there a poor mans camaro. alot of the ricers think that they can keep up with muscle because they beat mustangs. its sad what a bad name ford has given the american muscle car industry. oh and the cobra svt might put out 380 but its blown. a c6 n/a puts out 400. if it was blown like the cobra it would be 5 or 6 hundred. no comparision at all.

there are quite a few braggarts out there... if there is one thing I have learned, being honest gets you farther.
I have no aspirations to drag race on a regular basis... what I intend to do is the day before I pull my LT1 down is take it to LACR or something like that and run it... just to get a baseline. If it pops, it pops! Then, rebuild accordingly (I want to do a mild 383, CARB legal, but still strong) and then take it back to LACR. If I can pop off a high-12 or low 13 sec qtr at that altitude, I will be happy. I can then state, when asked, "how fast is your car", I will hand them the time slip with corrected ETs. They can then shut up and leave me alone. That stang, running NA on wrinkles should have been into the mid-13s. His driving must be much like is mouth... never knowing when to say when. Let him get some practice, let him blow up the new motor... then you can take him. oh, 94/95 stangs had the Romeo line of engines, the 2-valve SOHC 4.6 litre V8, not the old 302/5.0 litre. |

I have owned modular and pushrod stangs and can tell u
1. with out a serious build non will take a 200 shot 2. non will out run a vette without a serious build, including serious suspention now a 03-04 cobra might give you some problems |
and crkemppainen is right, no 4.6 till 96
then it was reworked in 99 and got some more power the 05s have a 3v head that from what I hear will move, but no one i have owns one so I cannot say |
