Based on the plug variation and the description in your last post I would look at the valvetrain. Pull the valve cover and make sure it didnt break an outer spring on the pass bank. Compression and leak down test the passenger side with the odd plugs. I wold also roll the motor over and check valve lift if you didnt find anything above.

Also, I am assuming it was running fine, this just popped up right?

Yep Phil,
Just popped up like an hour later, after the run, when tuning to 3,200.
Compression good.
No funny noises at all, even now.
Very mild cam.
Perplexed. Thinking bad O2's, but maybe just thinking too much. Computer readings way off at the moment.

Brent,

If it was 02 based the whole side of that engine would be black or white.
Are you running a plug thats to cold by chance and carbon fouling..opps I think you said Tr5s in your other post and they would be fine.

This is a fresh combination? Together for an hour of tuning?

New fuel lines and injectors? possibly a piece of contaminate in an injector. That will do wild things as the bad cyl will toss fresh air at 02 sensors and it will try to dump fuel on that bank.

If your scanning, is there a bank split on fuel trim from side to side?

Whats new.....

Phil,

Think I going to spent the ticket and do all four O2's and fuel filter for the sake of arguement. Take that out of the equation. I thinking the fuel pressure might have been at 60 PSI at low rpm and at higher rpm it has restricted flow. Gas not getting to passenger side and then only to few cylinders.

This would mark 14 O2's since I have owned the car and 5 fuel filters. California gas with PCB's, that stick to anything, is just wonderful.

Onthe flip side as bad as I feel right now, the car started acting up two days before my D.E. at Thunderhill(already paid for). It could have been a lot worse(Blown motor). Also, both of my rear Nitto's have screws in them. That would be really nice to find out on the track going into a turn. Maybe God was looking out for me.

Just a thought, on a few cars I have seen a catalytic convertor on one side clog up and cause that side of the motor run poorly, I could not tell by the post if the car has cats or not but just something eles to look at.

You were right Phil. I have seen this happen to few other guys here.
Broken outside valve spring on #2. Moves up and down fine, no noise, clean oil, no leaks. Crappy/Dreaded REV springs. Will have Rick scope light it.

Orderred the dual Manley's with seat cup cups and new tintanium retainers.

Running .576/.576 234/234 cam on a 430 cid. I have a set Comp 1.85 roller kit/with new pushrods/valve cover spacers sitting in the trunk. What do you think?
Time to do it and replace the stock rockers?
Anything to else look out for? Stock rocker?

RoadRebel 05-16-2005 05:25 PM

Glad I could help!

As for the goodies in the trunk, which 1.85 rocker system? The shaft mounts or the pro mags? The shafts will need a fair amount of grinding to get to work. The pro mags will bolt right in but you made need a slightly shorter pushrod to make the rocker sweep cherry. The only tweak with the pro magnums is on the one valve cover a couple of cast ejector point will need a bit of clearancing but no spacer needed.

1.85 Comp. Pro Magnums.
5/16 Guide Plates
Stems
7.4 New 5/16 Hardened Pushrods.
1/2" Valve cover spacer.
LQ9 230 cc heads.
2.10/1.60 Ferrea's
Eight out the hole Diamond Pistons(from A&A, assuming valve reliefs)
4.135 Bore
.58 Cometic.
10.7-11 compression

Thinking about bore scoping cylinder #2. I calculate a .622/.622 at plus 4-8 degrees duration, so 234/234 + 4 to 8

You think the pushrods should be cut to 7.35?

Brent

Brent,

You wont need the spacers with that setup. Just might have to grind a couple of small spots on the cover.
To many variables like headgasket thickness, lifters used, cam base circle, head deck surface removed to give exact pushrod length. Its all depends on how the rocker sweeps the valve tip. But usually when switching from stock to the pro mags I have to go to a shorter pushrod to get the sweep right. And, to top it off different manufacturers use different methods for measuring the lengths so stick with the same pushrod source when trying to figure it out. I went from 7.400" to 7.325" when I did mine.

Phil,
Thanks for everyting.
I may get lucky, good size gasket(.58) and no milling of the LQ9 heads. Regular Comp lifters and Comp 7.4 Rods.

I had a supercharged jack roush mustang. I was having a few problems with it on the dyno in the power band. I had a hunch that was telling me that it was the spark plugs blowing out they were gapped at .35, I then gapped them at .29 and it fixed the problem the plugs were blowing out. with the other problem I have no clue Im not about to try and tell you what I think it is when I have never had that problem so good luck hope you get it fixed.
