81 running on c 6yl?

Hi, Im new to the forum, and to the vette world. I hope someone can help with my first problem.
The car was running fine, pulled into the garage one nite, the next evening, got in to take it for a ride and it sounds like its running on 6 cyl. Starts and idles fine, but no acceleration. very little backfire, very rich exhaust smell. New plugs, cap, rotor etc.
Im not sure what to look for as it was running fine. Next time it was started, it acted this way. Any ideas what to check would be appreciated.
Ron

Ignition module failure--or you changed the firing order--or a plug wire got too close to your exhaust manifold.

In addition to the above, if your computer system is still intact and functional, the above could be a symptom of any number of things from a failed thermostat to a faulty sensor.

How would you go about checking for the ignition module failure?
thanks

The computer may have taken a bump on you and may be in "limp home" mode. Carburetor may have swallowed some garbage. Float stuck open.

You effectively reset the computer. One of your sensors, or mixture control solenoid is going bad. If it starts to happen more often you may want to start troubleshooting your coolant sensor/oxygen/TPS etc.
