New Emblems...

Just thought I would mention this for the heck of it :willy:

any way I installed new emblems today, wow big difference didn't realize how faded out the old one's were. Pretty easy job- remove the two nuts, heat em' up with a hair drier or heat gun, pop it free then use 3M adhesive cleaner to remove excess. I went a little further and put some 3M Swirl Mark Remover over the area, then a quick lite Z5. Installation is peel the protective covering and seat them. Tighten the nuts, on the hood it helps to put a little clay inside the deep well socket to help from dropping the little nuts..... ah ha one item more checked off the list.

I know slap me silly I was trying to hurry to the grocery store before it rained... didn't make it so now I have to dry it off and I'll snap a couple. Talk about a freakin' downpour. Hey coming home I had a LMB 05 behind me.

Here's best I can do, need to do it outside and with a tripod.

Know exactly what you mean Jocky. Had a show today with 8 member of the local Vette club at the Sunday Flea Market/Car Show. Sunshine all day long until a passing cloud let loose everything it had right when we were set to leave. Soon as the race is over at Dover, I'll be out in the garage clening up.

i saw a polo green in tulsa a few weeks back, heck it looked almost like my car but had gold emblems on it. kinda looked good. i perfer the oem black ones like yours...they match my black tires perfectly. lol

looks good, did you do the back one also?

Ok, are the nuts ( I'm referring to the two that hold the emblem on ) standard or metric.

Thanks yes I did them both. It was a total splurge of spending money though. I was over at Ecklers buying the vinyl paint (another story) and wanted to spend more money so I picked them up at their prices. I could have saved half that by getting them from Chris or GMDirect.

Yeah for 93, you could have the chrome ones or the natural black ones. The chrome was are used on the 40th Anniversary Edition same for the 96 CE too. But I agree with you I like the black one's better. I think I'm on a mission subconsciensously to restore the vette to original new condition. Seems like I'm always replacing this or that just so its new again. I figure better get them parts now before they are discontinued and it will give me another 10-12 years of service. And in some cases where parts have been discontinued and I get a hold of the last few I have been buying duplicates, so I have an original spare if needed. For example like the vacuum harness.

Love that polo green color.

Metric but its very strange. The emblems have a double-sticky tape on them which has a protective cover you peel off. The post are solid plastic post. The little nuts are self cutting nuts so as you start to turn it, it cuts its own threads into the plastic post.

They don't tighten real tight, it would just strip away the plastic. I think they are there to just pull the center part tight until the sticky takes hold. One day in the hot sun and they were fine.

10mm if I remember. I used a deep well socket.

looks good, i like the 91-96 emblems as opposed to the 84-90 emblems, i might have to update my emblems to the 91-96 emblems

just wondering if the holes are the same on both emblems

I'll take a picture of the back side of the old one's and give you some measurements, that may help.

ZfidyONE-84 06-09-2005 09:47 AM

that would help out greatly, i need both front and back

just need to figure out what to do about the wheel centers, they don't make black 91-96 center caps, i was told they wouldon't fit, i guess i'll just paint my ratty centers, and get a vinyl decal of a red bowtie, and just go that route, cheaper than $40.00 a cap :leaving:

No no... only the R ones are good for 20hp. We're talking Corvette Emblems here... you should see at least a 50hp gain using the seat of teh pants meter

Seriously though, they look really good.

When I bought my Vette, the gas cap door emblem was faded almost to the point where you couldn't make out the logo anymore... My paint looks really good though and teh dealer I bought from gave me a new emblem to put on. Of course, it then made the hood emblem look bad so i had to replace that one too

Amazing how much "newer" your car will look wothout faded emblems...

Jet-Jock 06-09-2005 05:47 PM

Oh absolutely. I'm happy with them even though I paid a little more than I should but I supported a supporting vendor.

Thanks :)
