Do you leave the hood up when you get back home?

When down in Cali a couple weeks ago, I noticed that my wife's uncle opened up the hood on his car (a Mercedes) when he parked it in the garage. At first I smiled at this practice but then started to think about it.

How many of you do the same to let hot air escape more rapidly from the engine bay? I just started to do the same being that it's been so hot up here recently.

Your thoughts?

Sounds like a good idea. I do not think it would hurt anything.

Never, and I've been driving a long, long time.

I do the same as your wife's uncle, always have. I also leave my garage door up about a foot too.

Though I personally wouldn't do it... it's not really a bad idea as far as preserving the paint. Typically, if clearcoat gets trashed, it's starts on the hood because you have the sun from the top and the heat from the engine.

At least while you're driving, the heat flows and you have cooler air entering the engine compartment. Once parked, all the heat rises and I suppose over a LOOONG period of time, it would help preserve the paint.

no

Not a bad idea, as mentioned above.....but I don't think it's for me.

I could see it if you were in a particularly hot climate a lot more than the mild climate I reside in...my .02

I'd never thought of doing this, but the previous owner said he would do this sometimes. If I have been running it fairly hard before I get home I'll pop it open while I'm wiping it down. Not really sure if it helps or not, but with all the plastic and rubber underneath there and as hot as it get's, it's not going to hurt anything.

I do it!!

I open my hood in the summer but not in the fall or spring.

blazeone 07-30-2005 09:02 PM

I do sometimes.

I do it... :)

Depends on how I have driven the car. Most of the time, I just pull the latch inside and leave the hood popped.

I had a friend with a Mercedes and he did the same thing. I always put the hood upon my C3 after driving, but have never done it with this car. It would help the engine cool off quicker in these hot days of late.

Mine is open right now,the car cool's down much faster....

I do it to both of my vettes but not to my DD. I just thought it would let the heat out faster. All things being equal my 03 puts out a lot more heat than my 78.
