1957 Dual Four Barrel Carb and Manifold
Ok, I have found a really nice condition original 2x4 manifold and just one carb comes with it. The carb is the front carb from the 270 hp 283 engine. Numbers on the carb are:
Air horn 6-1299 (cast) 1161 (stamped) Main body 0-1049 Base 1-1387 B with an "X" I have to pay $1200 for these 2 items, the front carb and the manifold. They are really nice shape, not junk at all. What do you all think of this price?. I am new to these older parts. I do not care if it is "correct" for my car by the numbers. |

The only value is the intake and they are VERY plentiful. |
Per Gary Hodges, the NCRS Tech Advisor for carburetors, 1957 2x4's used the 0-1049 main body as well as the 0-049, and 6-1299 is the correct air horn for '57 2x4's.
My original '57 (#4275, built in June) had 0-1049 main bodies and 6-1299 air horns on its 2626S and 2627S carbs, with original May brass tags and 1/2" air valve weights. |

The info. I posted above was from Gary's articles written in the NCRS Restorer. I went through both articles and that's what I came up with. I think I was wearing my glasses. :D Yours must be a 270HP and have the short or long air valve levers??? |
Yup, 283/270 2x4, with short (1-13/32") levers, 1/2" weights and E 7 1 tags. All 2626S/2627S 2x4 carbs made after April had the short levers and 1/2" weights.

I changed by mind and bid and won it at $1225! I have always wanted a 283-270hp dual four engine! Now I need the distributor. Maybe I will use a Pertronix is it?
Thanks everyone for all the help! Chris |
