Inflatable Restraint = Air Bags

The light should come on for a few seconds when you start the car - it's just recognizing that they are active.

Problem in the 1990 model year. Mid America sells a tool to help diagnose the problem. Usually a bad ground on one of the DERM's (I think that is what they are called).

smack, the light never turns off haha

vahroom how much do you think one of those would run me, and how hard is install?

I understand your problem.

I cannot seem to get mine fixed may have to take it to the dealer.

Here is the Tech Tip.

Give this a try before resorting to other measures.

Good luck,

I fixed my 90's SRS problem using the tech tip but it recurred after a few weeks. I found the second recurrance to be caused by a loose connection at the "yellow" wire connector in the driver side footwell. I must have loosened it while doing the initial repair. I also bought the code clearance tool the second time around and found it to be a much easier task.

Had the same problem with my 90 Vert. Turned out to be the sensor on the passenger's side. You have one sensor on each side of the car mounted on the frame forward of the firewall. I purchased the code reset tool from Mid America I think.

The problem is the sensor is very sensitive to resistance in the ground circuit. Where GM mounted them is directly in the path of water if you drive in the rain. The water gets under the sensor and corrosion begins. GM has a Service Letter out on this subject. All it says is to clean the frame and sensor to remove any corrosion. You then need to apply some dielectric grease to the faying surfaces. The only problem is getting to the blasted things. Your code will tell you which sensor it is so there is no guesswork on which one to fix. I elected to install a new one rather than mess with one that is 15 years old.

Be patient when you do the work. Also be patient when clearing the code as it is tricky and may take you several tries. It is not a hard job just a little frustrating at times. Good luck.
