What size socket/wrench do you use for drain plug?

I just did mine last weekend..... 9/16

I use a 14mm socket for my drain plug which fits good and tight.

oil drain plug size
Hi
I use a 9/16 & a big drip pan. Tomcat 74 :flag: |
9/16 six point here but 14mm and 9/16 are really close in size.

14mm is the correct size. Depending on amount of abuse your fit may vary.
I believe Jerry's has new drain plugs and the correct washer so you don't have to over tighten. Remember, you are going into aluminum!! |

A 9/16 is .5625 and if the oil drain plug has seen a little abuse the larger 9/16 will work a bit better. If the oil drain plug is tight, the 14 mm will give a better grip. I always coat the washer both sides and the threads of the oil drain plug with a bit of Permatex which helps secure the plug with a little less torque as fxkenny suggests to not overtighten  You are going into aluminum but...….the aluminum oil pan has a steel Helicoil insert for the Oil Drain Plug. |
