Painted Under Hood Insulation

I felt like doing a little something today so I thought I'd spice up the insulation under the hood. I've seen where some guys have used a decal and others have painted. I thought I'd try the paint first. The photos tell the story.

It's best if you remove the insulation first. This is easy to do by simply pulling the 'Christmas Tree' fasteners out of the holes. Gently coax these things out so you don't break any.

The paint I used is actually used for models. In case you're wondering why I picked this stuff, it's because I used this paint on the supercharger on my Thunderbird SC. I wanted to see what it would look like thinking that if I liked it, I would use some really good paint to do the job later the right way. I painted that Supercharger 17 years ago and the paint looks as good today as the day I applied it.

I used a brush to apply the paint to the insulation and it took me a couple of hours to complete the job. It took a couple of coats to get good coverage. That's pretty much it.

Thanks for the positive comments

Hey all, thanks for the nice comments. I appreciate them BUT my intention was just to pass on some information to all who might be thinking about doing the same thing and not to pat myself on the back.

I hadn't seen the post by Pipedreams. I must say that he really does the job right. I didn't take anywhere near the amount of time and preparation he does. I venture to say that if you were to put my car next to one of his jobs, you will see a big difference for sure. His jobs look great!

Now you have a choice and can choose which method you'd like to use.

Thanks again.
