What types of places would sell Methynol?
 

Coming home today I got a warning that I was low on Methynol. I hate the idea of spending $10 per gallon on denatured alcohol everytime I need a refill but have no clue where to buy Methynol so was forced to stop at the hardware store for the alcohol. Besides a race track (which I'm not even sure if the track that is within driving distance of me even sells it) what types of stores would sell it?

Believe it or not I buy mine at Wal Mart. I usually buy 10 bottles of "Heet" (In the yellow bottle) for .97 each

I have yet to find a need to buy it buy the gallons. If you only go through about 1 tank per couple of tanks of gas, I see no reason for it.

PLUS, when you buy it by the 12oz bottle you can throw 1 or 2 in the storage compartment for that time when you run to low.

BTW, Heet is sold in the Auto parts section.. Its 100% Methyl Alcohol.

VP fuels will mail it to you also but I'm not sure if the hazardous shipping fee is worth it. :)

Would a paint store stock methanol in bulk? Just a suggestion.

any oval track racing shop sells it since many oval track cars run on methanol.

i have a sunco gas station close by, they sell from 103 up to 112 unleaded race fuel and methanol by the 15 gallon drum. I got 2 drums in my garage..... :hurray:

I pick up mine at The Home Depot...paint section.

FWIW... when I went to the Road Course Event on 10/1 & 2... I was using almost a half a gallon of methanol every 30 min! :eek: I was really going through the stuff!! :crazy: Good thing I brought a 5 gallon container with me. :yesnod:

They will direct you to a local distributor in your area which is cheaper however they will sell Methanol to you at 5 gallon pail-$25.55 plus $45 Haz/Mat shipping fee; 55 gal drum- $184.14 plus $95 Haz/Mat shipping fee. :eek: This was too expensive for me and was able to find a local VP distributor to sell it to me for $3 dollars a gallon for methanol. :thumbs:

Hey thanks a lot for th info! I will call them today. I did go to Walmart and found that stuff called Heet in the automotive department. On the back it says it's Methyl Alcohol so I bought 10 of them. So at least I'm covered for now. :thumbs: Thanks again to everyone that responded.

I there a differance in the stuff you buy at Home Depo and Walmart and the stuff you get at VP Racing besides the price. Ken

Good question Ken. While I was at walmart today, I was looking at two different things. The "Heet" says it's Methyl Alcohol and another type of fuel line antifreeze said it was Methanol. I wasn't sure if there was a difference so I bought "Heet" because it was recommended by another forum member.

I just got off the phone with a machine shop 2 miles from my house and they sell Methanol all year round. Get this, $2.20 per gallon. Think I found my source!

i run denatured alchy threw my ecs kit. i am running though a 3 bar map were your guys are probably running 2 bar. i want the alchy to really ramp hard in the 14.7 to 22 psi area.
denatured stuff really stinks when i spary and your behind me. i cannot smell in the car when spraying.

Look under your local yellow pages under auto racing equipment/parts. Call the listings, someone will have it most likely. I found 4 sources /stores within 20 miles of my house.
