Personally, I'd get it through a reputable vendor like Best Buy, Circuit City, or Crutchfield and take advantage of the current $300 rebate (that ends 12/31, I believe). You could probably find it somewhere else online for a bit less, but some of those cut rate places scare me a little, nail you with shipping charges, and if there's a problem you're out in the cold. To me, paying a couple bucks more upfront is worth the security, especially on a big purchase like this.

im sure your right on that !! i have found it on a online store for as little a 950.00 with free shipping . Not sure if i feel to safe with that but price sure does sound good.

I paid $1,699 at Best Buy. With the $300 rebate, it came to $1,399. I read somewhere that Pioneer would only support the unit if it were purchased from an authorized dealer. I knew I could buy it for less online, but the support means more to me than saving a few bucks.

$1,199 at Crutchfield right now, after rebates and discounts.

isn't the d2 the current model?

I don't think there is such a thing as a D2. There's an N1 and N2, but don D2 that I'm aware of. I have heard they're coming out with a Z1 sometime in 2006, and it sounds wild and expensive.

Info on the Z1
