Cooling system update

I got the new lower rad hose and 160 degree t-stat in last night. Took the car out for a test flight today. It's a bit cooler than it was last week (maybe 5+ degres cooler). On the same highway run of about 5 miles at about the same speed (75-80?) the engine heated up to about 225. It was on the notchbetween 210 and the yellow zone. This was with the aux fan turned off. So I guess I made some improvement. I'll have to work on correcting the airflow issues now. Spoiler and rad seals will be first.

Still though, when I'm driving at lower speeds the temp comes down and everything looks great. It's just when I start moving pretty good that things start to heat up. Interesting. Sounds like a coolant flow or airflow issue. Can't reject enough heat.

Have you checked your timing advance? Mine heated up on the freeway when my timing was adjusted wrong.

Also, your sig says you have a mallory dist. Does it have vacuum advance? If not, that could be the reason it heats up (retarded timing = less efficiency).

Sounds to me like you really need that air dam. On my old 82 T/A, I think I lost about 3 of them due to snow, and every time, it would get really hot on the freeway. I think it made about a 30 degree difference on my car.

Mine does the same exact thing, will be following this thread closely. I did notice a small decrease if temp when I added the air dam under the front of the car. I also do not have the intake snorkle on mine, it leaves a big gap on top the radiator to seal up. Just got my new radiator seal set, will have to figure something out
