Center console
I remember seeing a post about how people repaired the covering on a late model C4 but can't see to find it.. Can someone point me to the thread, or let me know what worked for them.

Re: Center console (CowboyNVette)
In the Mid America newest catalog on page 10 they have a nice console cushion. It says it has directions for intall under 1 hour. The cover got the 90-96 looks great with the C4 emblem on it.

Re: Center console (PoloGrnC4)
When I open the console the "lip" of the black vinyl cover catches on the hinge.. Making it very difficult to open.. It appears as if the vinyl is peeling away from the hard plastic shell. I seem to recall someone discribing the same problem and fixing by sewing it back together.. I'll keep looking. Thanks

Re: Center console (PoloGrnC4)
PolGrnC4,
I recently repaired the same problem on my '92, as follows: At the rear lower edge of the door you will see the wires for the Console Lid light, they have a connector just out of sight below the console itself, gently pull on the wire while prying the console slightly forward to allow the connector to come above the console. Disconnect connector. Remove screws from lid hinge on inside and remove lid. Remove screws holding cover to lid. Separate the cover and lid slowly, watching the area of the latch mechanism. Try to leave the latch spring in place long enough to see how it fits together. Once removed you will see the foam between the console cover and lid have separated. Use the side of a flat blade screwdriver to scrape away the foam at the area it will, and did, lap onto the lid. Don't remove more than the lapping area to avoid irregular shape on edge of console cover. Apply thin layer of 3M Super Trim Adhesive, #82 to both surfaces, allow to dry, apply second thin coat to one side and press in place. I found clamping it with spring clamps (like larger clothespins) helped maintain the alignment while the adhesive sets. Replace in the reverse order and enjoy! 3M available at most auto parts stores(Kragen, Autozone, etc.) |
