Black LT5
Can someone explain the ZR1's that had the black engine to me? I heard a few were not just custom but some sorda option or special production stuff?
Someday I'll order a Corvette book explaining these things to me, until then its you guys. :flag: |

Hey fellow USAF pilot, the car you are describing is a "Black Widow" built by DRM; Doug Rippie Motorsports. I can't remember the specifics, but they were a stroker LT-5 and put out 475HP and were given a disgusting black wrinkle finish on the nice aluminum parts. Nothing that the tuners can't do today since they are getting over 600HP without power adders. :flag:

Yeah, I see there were only 8. I presume those 8 command a high resale value, not something I would look into. I think I will still be looking for a stock Red on Red 94 or 95 LT5 down the road. I think one of those would be a perfect cousin to my Black on Black LT4.

If you like the C-4 enough to have two....I would get a later model Callaway twin turbo. They will always be collector status and look more different than any other vette out there.
I'm currently building a custom tube frame '69 that will have a C-4 suspension, C-5 brakes, etc. to make it perform better than a ZR-1 with the classic looks of a '69 Vert! |

According to the DRM catalog the porting, machine work and black coating was done at Mercruiser, then the reassembly and installation was done by DRM. There were eight of them built not counting ones that were converted later.

Did they make any twin turbo LTx's or only the L98? I know they have the twin turbo ZR1's out there, but I doubt I ever locate one let alone buy it. |
A good article comparing the ZR-1 w/the Callay:

Ok, maybe a nice middle of the road 94-95 ZR1 next...then if possible, someday a Callaway without the aerobody. Those dang things are real sleepers. I definetley became a true fan of the C4, the problem, is the wife who doesn't like them, soon her C5 will be getting to old for her taste leaving me in a bit of a tight spot when she starts in on me for a C6. I wont want to let my 98 go either, I love cars with no payment.

The cams were stock lift but had more duration than the stockers.

I'm not sure which cams black widow #2 has, but the thing sounds like a big block with a really hot cam in it.

So does anyone on this forum have one?

Yes I will be in BG this year, leaving thursday. I hope everything finds you well. Oh, I also got a new cam to play with next time I see your black widow |
