C6 Paddleshift info
 

I am thinking about looking at a C6 with the paddleshift option. I have been trying to locate information about it...good, bad, etc. Does it work as a full automatic with shift options like Tiptronic?

Wanted to try to get some info before going shopping.

Yup, I think it comes down to...From a drivers standpoint, it's the best American automatic ever.

Anyone who would even consider any type of automatic should try one. They're good.

I have decided on an MN6 but it wasn't an easy choice because they are both very good.

The March issue of Corvette Magazine had a great article about the paddle shift. They were positive. Great features! I just ordered one.

Yes it works as a full auto with shift options. I have the A6 and in my opinion its a great transmission. The A6 has 3 driving selections, you can leave it in drive and let it shift itself, place the shifter in S(Sport) and it will shift itself more aggressively, or put it in S and operate the paddles. :thumbs:

:iagree: I have the A6 with paddle shifters and I really love it. I find I use it in the manual mode much of the time.

it on our 2006 and as I understand you have Drive and S. In D it is a standard 4 spd auto in S you have the option of the 6spd auto and you shift using the paddles. If you leave in S and do not do anything it will shift as a standard 4 spd auto. It will only let you shift into a certain gear if you are carrying enough speed to use that gear.
I itest drove one and was going through the gears and because I was not going fast enough it would not shift to 6th.

I have 5000 miles on my 06 and have been very happy with the A6 transmission. It was one of the main reasons I traded my C5. :flag:

The A6 is programmed well. Even in moderate everyday commute driving (in regular "drive"), it downshifts nicely without too high of an RPM jump.

Sorry but the A6 will go thru all 6 gears in D and S and when using paddels will down shift to 2nd automatically or you can down shift manually to 1st gear. :cheers:

No question that the A6 is a quick and smooth automatic, the best I've driven. However, the paddleshift is much like the "sport" shift option that several cars featured in the past few years; downshifts tend to lag a little. I ordered mine with an MN6.

Really! I was not aware of that. Someone somewhere told me that the D section would only act as a 4spd!! Thats good to know about it using all 6! Thansk for the heads up..

The A6 is a pretty nice trans, but, it is not even close to a MN6 for sheer fun. It is nice to be able to downshift it when setting up to enter a turn or rip through an on or off ramp, but it is just not as positive feeling. If you put it Sport mode and run it up without touching the paddles it can't be beat. It shifts faster than you can with the paddles and at the right moment every time. I think it is very good but not great. I bought it because my knees aren't what they used to be and I want Barbara to be able to drive it, especially on those long trips we are going to be making in it. The guys at the drags are going to leave the paddles alone and have a ball, the guys who like to run the back roads will stay with the stick.

I've driven the A6, very nice. Very quick shifts, nice and smooth manual shifting. Also full auto as well. Best of both worlds IMO.

:iagree: I don't think that there is any clear answer to this question. I have been very pleased with mine. Some people will only be happy with a true manual. A friend of mine got a 911 a few weeks ago with a manual. He loved it for the first week, but now is tired of fighting with the manual in daily rush hour traffic and wishes he got the automatic. You really should get whatever you think will make you happy.

Definitely does. I was in S mode using the paddles and as I came up on a stop light, I was busy talking to my wife and forgot to downshift (yes, you can all give me the appropriate amount of crap for that), and when I next looked at the HUD it was magically already in 2nd. Very cool. Still can drive as a manual, but you can be inattentive like me and the car corrects for my goof ups.

Also, being almost 6'8", shifting the MN6 all the time would not be comfortable. So its the best of both worlds in my opinion. :thumbs:

This thread is probally way dead..but i had a couple question anyways!

Can you shift the paddle a6 down into N using the flappys?
Also, i have an 09 LTZ silverado with a manual mode, how would the c6 shifts compare to that, and if its slow is their anyway to improve them?
