DIN radio faceplate for C3's

I'm going to be installing a new stereo in my car. It's the newer style DIN radio that would call for cutting out the existing dash plate. I've been looking for a faceplate or cover that would make everything look neat and tidy but have come up short :( . Does anyone know of a company that sells what I'm looking for. I'm sure I'm not the first one to need one these faceplates for a C3.

I took a hacksaw and cut an opening out in mine, I thought it looked just fine. The faceplace in the '81s are plastic so it is easy, I'm can't remember if yours is the same or not. If you want to go back to the original style radio you will need to replace the original piece though.

On the early C3's the faceplate has a raised section around the radio knobs. Even when cut out for the DIN you're still left with some of that raised area.

Would I need any mounts to support the radio if I were to do this? I had an eclipse deck but no one would help me on here so I just sold it.

I had a thread going back in early May titled "Console Bezel and Stero" ( note misspelling of Stereo ) but I can't access the info on the Forum search which has a Ph# to a guy who sold me a face plate. I even have the thread link https://www.corvetteforum.com/ubb/Fo...ML/026016.html but it no longer works. I can get the info for you when I get home tonite and look for the receit.

Try "American International" out of California. They have a web site. I believe the number is FP-306 for the faceplate. I just installed one in my 72 and it looks good. The plate is around $12.00.

Kim72.........Can you post a pic. They don't have one on their site of that particular model, it would be better great to see one installed.
Thanks

Try this thread from a week ago:
It has pics of a couple of different cars. :D Good luck.

BTW IXIX Dragon, I didn't see your post asking about support mounts, but yes you should use something. All the new in dash players come with a mounting strap that you should attach to something under the dash. It wasn't long enough for mine, so I bought more from Home Depot (1 on each side) this is just to keep the deck from sagging over bumps. I also cushioned and insulated the bottom with foam http://www.corvetteforum.cc/ubb/smile.gif

I am using a faceplate on my DIN Alpine that I got from Audio Unlimited. Dave Smith is/was a forum member and
owns a C3.

I have never seen one that looks right. Some have posted pics in that past that used a plate to cover some of the choping up but..... Still looked like bubba did it. Usualy end up sticking out of the dash a couple of inches (68-76 dash, later ones can swap without a problem) as the early dash/console does not have the needed space behind the faceplate. Later ones, 77-82, had redesigned dash that allowed use of any delco radio.

My thought is that it cannot be done to look "factory" in the early Sharks. You will end up with another Bubba job.

Hey, this one from the other thread looks like a clean install:
I think this is the route I'm gonna take.

You can get the face plate from Dave Smith at Audio Unlimited in Norcross GA. Phone number is (770) 925-7003. It was under $20.

Thx Pheonix, and TRW from the other thread http://www.corvetteforum.cc/ubb/smile.gif

VFast,
I see that Glen has responded with the name of the outfit I used for the faceplate - Audio Unlimited. Only thing I can add is Dave's telephone # which is 770-925-7003. The plate cost $15 plus $5 shipping/handling. Worked out great for me. Good luck.

Great info everyone, and great timing. Would you believe that I've been checking at Crutchfield's website all morning and decided to check the forum??? I must be living right......well, all a matter of opinion. :D

Sorry this has taken so long to post a picture but I'm still trying to figure out how to load images. Anyway I will try this. This is a picture of the "American International" DIN faceplate in my 72 coupe. Yes, I cut the bezel but I am still happy with the results. Sorry about the size. I am still working on shrinking the images.
Hope this helps.

The radio and dash are actually bright red -- the flash on the digital camera washed them out to an orange color.

I trimmed my console with a dremel tool.

Hey Guys, I am still here, I just never post in the C-3 section. I also still carry the dash kits for the early C-3s. If anyone needs one, let me know. (770-925-7003) And for those of you that already have them, I am glad you're happy with them.

Along the same lines of this topic. Does someone make a wire harness so that I do not have to cut the original wires? Trying to keep from having to Bubba the install. Already bought a Pioneer DEH-2300 and Infinity speakers, about to buy the faceplate and looking to install on a rainy weekend.

Thanks
