F41 Suspension Question

I am looking over my 68 L89 that I just bought and was wondering if I have the F41 suspension option. What are the telltale signs? The shocks have been changed unless Monroe shocks are part of the F41 option. I just measured the front sway bar and it is 15/16". The rear leaf spring is 7 leafs. I couldn't find any tags on the front springs. Anyone out there able to interperet this info and what else do I need to look at? Thanks, Mike

Base front sway bar was/is 7/ inch in contrast to the F41 sway bar weighing in at 15/16 inch. Rear spring for F41 was a 7 leaf spring in contrast to the 9 leaf for base big block suspension.

Production shocks cary a GM# 3171488 for the front and 3171489 for the rear with date codes that would confirm originality. So...Monroes don't count!

From what you list...you've got F41!

Shocks are F41 only, If only I knew what they would be worth to the NCRS crowd I would not have thrown out my original shocks when I bought mine in 85 :willy: :willy: :willy:

In todays market dated F-41 shocks are worth upwards of $1250 EACH!! I sold a used up set or rears for $1850 (and I could have gotten much more)

This is not my ebay listing, but figured I would post it to help out. These say they are NOS F 41 shocks. Right now the price as of this posting are $150.00 with a little less than an hour to go.

Here is another set for around the same price.

Mike,
If no tag on front coils, measure wire thickness. F41 coils are thicker than standard BB suspension, should measure 11/16ths. Look for forged casting number 3829265 & 3829266 on rear shock mounts, if there you have F41, if not it will be standard suspension.

Checked the rear shock mounts and they are 3829265 and 66 and the front springs are 11/16" thick. Thanks for all the help. Now I have to go out and spend $4000 on a set of shocks. Mike

Not trying to be a smart ass but why are you going to have to pay 4k for shocks??? Here are some on ebay for under $200 bucks? Are the F41 shocks different or did I miss something? Again, im trying to learn something here not flame or be a smart ass.

Thanks.

they "might" be F41 shocks but are they correctly dated? that's where the money is. The Ebay ad for the second set do not include part numbers or date codes.
I bought a jack at Carlisle. I just need a jack that would work. Ended up with a mid 70's unit. If I had bought a correctly dated unit I would have been up for 3 times the price.
the F41 shocks are a lot rarer than a jack and getting correctly dated units even harder.

Ahhh gotcha, thanks for explaining it.
