Flywheel question

Does anyone have info on the application of the following flywheel, which is 14" and 168 tooth:

#3988795, also has the word "NODULAR" cast into it on the block side, casting date L08.

Thanks!

'66-'74 big-blocks (except L-88) and '69-'81 small-blocks (except ZR-1) used 14" 168-tooth flywheels - it's probably one of those.

I went out and pulled all of my 168 tooth flywheels (about 15). None of them have that casting number.
Does it have a bolt pattern for a 10.5in clutch or a bolt pattern for an 11in clutch?

Thanks a lot for the information.

Is there an easy way to tell which bolt pattern is on the flywheel? Thanks again!

For a 168 tooth (14in diameter) flywheel with a bolt pattern for the 11in clutch, the bolt holes will be near the perimeter of the flywheel.
For a 168 tooth flywheel with a bolt pattern for a 10.5in clutch, the bolt holes will be about an inch away from the edge of the flywheel. There were some flywheels made with dual bolt patterns.

The bolt holes are close to the edge, much less than an inch, and there is a single bolt hole pattern. So this must be for an 11" clutch.

Yep, sounds like it to me.

Flywheel Id

Hi,

Are you sure that it's not 3988759 ??? That part number is listed in my Chevrolet passenger car parts catalog as fitting 66-69 passenger car with 427 and manual trans.
