Blower motor stays on.
 

I have to leave the connector disconnected under the hood to the blower motor. Even when the car is off; keys out, the motor still runs, when connected. What's wrong; relay?

It would seem it has to be in a relay or some switching mechanism, since that is the only way power could get to the system, and it is odd that when you turn the key off it still continues, which means it is getting power hot from the battery. I think the first thing I would do is start tracking any and all modifications that have been made to the electrical system.

HMMMMM. Certainly sounds like a relay is stuck; especially given that the keys are out. Disconnect the relay to see what happens.

Well, have any of you guys have that problem before? Was it the relay? I'm confident the wiring is all good.

where u pulled out the plugs take that out thats the blower control module
i might be but i doubt it a 5 am fuse in the engine compartment
mine (i have a 91) had to take off the coolant reservoir thats on the fire wall
it was behind that

I've had mine stuck on with the key in the ignition, engine off. Thats just weird though that it stays on like that. Definitely some hot wiring though.

It happened to me a couple of years ago. I tried to read the mechanics writing but it's as bad as a doctors. Your on the right track with the relay / module. Looked as if it was a major pia though as they had to disassemble components from the firewall and passenger side dash. Parts were $150 plus labor. I had other stuff done too but looked to cost around $350. Sorry I can't be of more help.

I have the exact same problem on my 85. It has happened once this year, and three or four times last year. I just took the battery cable off when it has happened to me. I did find that it only happens when the blower is on high when the motor is hut off. I plan to change the blower motor relay to see if that helps. It is not a daily driver, so I never seem to get around to fixing these problems.

If you have the electronic temp. control ( it will have the auto button that maintains the temp) it is probably the blower module. It will be hot even with the engine off and the key removed. An easy test is to disconnect the wire to the module. If it stops, it is the module. Look on the firewall on the passenger side for the blower. there will be a large red wire going to it. Look for the triangle. This is the arrangement on my 87.

I have a similar problem. I did some work on the engine and unplugged the connectors on the pass side. Now when I plug the blower motor back up it sounds like a leave is in there and it runs with the engine off and key out.

yeah this goofy thing is stuck i was working on my cooling fans the other day and some how when i fixed that i messed the stuck the relay or maby it was its time of the month anyway i guess i gotta get me a new relay how much am i looking at paying for a new one?

85 Corvette Blower Motor Stuck On
 

My 85 Corvette's blower motor just stuck in the "ON" position. Keeps running even when the ignition is off. I hope it is something as simple as the relay. Thanks forum for the informative posts.

Seems the 84 and 85 did not have the blower motor control unit.

Relay and blower control 'resistor' instead.

Only the C68 (introduced in '86) automatic HVAC systems have the blower module. It controls the fan speed and the compressor clutch. There is a feedback system so the control head knows how fast the fan is running. There is a fuse in this feedback circuit where the relay is shown in the earlier picture. I have heard that the fan will only run on high speed if the fuse is blown, but couldn't get that to happen on my system. I had a situation where the fan wouldn't run, which turned out to be a corroded connector on the module.

The C60 manual systems have the relay and resistors. The resistors get switched in by the fan speed switch on the control head and the relay bypasses all the resistors to get high speed. If one of the resistor wires is broken the fan will not run on the fan speed settings that use that resistor. That happened to me on my '78 Corvette.

As far as the blower motor on my '85 Corvrtte staying on with the ignition off and the key removed; a $10.95 blower motor control relay switch from O'Reilley Auto Parts, and 20 minutes of labor and the problem is fixed!! Thanks Corvette Forum for the good info!!!!

What year corvette should be a 90 to 92 right? If Not I would like some more information.

where is that fuse located, mine is a 1990 Softtop....
